"Sadeness" by Enigma (includes Gregorian chant):http://youtube.com/watch?v=UT1Ma5J8i64I don't know if this will help, but why not look at blues? Many of the great classic rock bands--Led Zeppelin, The Stones, and so on--were influenced by and borrowed heavily from the bluesmen of earlier eras such as Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf, and so on. Sawahash --- here's one I think that will work for you and it's not a cover. Just a blatant rip off.... let me know if this is similar to what you're looking for because I know of several modern songs who have done this. The Raconteurs --- "steady as she goes"http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q7aOWIFgIZQ(the beginning compared to)Joe Jackson --- "is the really going out with him"http://youtube.com/watch?v=3RWyFX3UO_E&feature=relatedwait about 10 to 12 seconds into the Joe Jackson song --- the drum beat and the bassline are identical. If you google the two songs together, you should see several blog passages about the Raconteurs ripping it off. Let me know if you want more comparisons similar to this, or if I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to find.
