Bragaw was the shit when I lived there, aside from the nassy bathrooms.
3/26/2008 9:17:46 AM
becton, berry, or Avent Ferry? really?just come to campus and walk around and see where the dorms are in proximity to everything else. Make sure you come when classes are in. I promise you the most is going on in the tri-towers, owen/tucker, or UT
3/26/2008 9:21:55 AM
i say no go on avent ferry = crossing western is a fucking nightmare.
3/26/2008 9:22:44 AM
interesting thanks for the input....i think i'm coming up today or tomorrow to visit....
3/26/2008 9:25:20 AM
haha clark was the infirmary when i lived in woodand fountain was the only public dining hall game in town...if you want to complain about a walk in the freezing cold, think about a trek from syme to fountain 10-30 times a weeki would definitely go becton or berry before avent ferrycheck out syme or gold as well...being close to design school is the super coolest[Edited on March 26, 2008 at 9:30 AM. If you are looking to meet new people, definitely go for hall style. When I was a freshman, I stayed in Owen. I luckily got assigned a good roomate (Wolfpacker06) who wasn't a pain in the ass, but I could see how having a bad one would make a huge difference. I loved my first year... in the spring and beginning of the Autumn semesters, the whole Tucker Beach area was full of girls sunbathing in the afternoons, and people were out there playing volleyball just about every day. They also had tons of events right outside my window where you could go and meet other freshmen. Upon moving in at NCSU I knew maybe 5 people at the entire school who I knew in high school. After the first month, I knew practically everyone on my floor and anytime I was bored I could just go walk into people's rooms and say hi. You cannot go wrong with a hall style set up for your first year... everyone leaves their doors open so you really get a great sense of community. You can go for suite style, but you will only really get to know your suite mates that well.My second year, I stayed in Bragaw, which is a suite style. I was able to get a suite with a bunch of good friends that I made when in Owen. It is a lot better in my opinion if you get a suite with people you already know... you don't wanna get someone that you won't get along with in your suite.I've been to North a number of times, it (as well as Avent Ferry) used to be hotels, so the rooms are considerably larger than most parts of campus. Unless you have a lot of classes in North Campus you will have a bit of a walk though. Avent Ferry is really isolated from the rest of campus so there aren't as many events and stuff outside. And from what I hear, it has a roach problem.[Edited on March 26, 2008 at 10:30 AM. Reason : ]

watch out for the damn suicidal squirrels and big ass rats near the tri-towers.
3/26/2008 11:05:07 AM
I lived in Lee the 2 years I was in the dorm. I'm still close to my suite mates from Freshman year (We had 2 seniors, 3 sophomore, 3 freshman). My second year, my suite mates were really quite, but by that point I had established a group of friends. I lived hall style during the summer and didn't care for it at all.
3/26/2008 11:16:52 AM
wow my first wolfweb thread and it made it to 2 pages....
3/26/2008 1:16:14 PM
^That's because you made it here in study hall instead of in chit chat. I'd also like to note that pretty much the closest friends that I have right now that I keep in contact with are friends I made as a freshman living in Owen and I was roommates with them throughout most of my college career.
3/26/2008 1:20:25 PM
yeah, the more I look into owen, the more I like it
3/26/2008 1:25:57 PM

3/26/2008 4:08:44 PM
actually im pretty intent on putting berry and bragaw, north and syme would be the ones I would choose from
3/26/2008 4:11:51 PM
never underestimate the value of having a C-Store IN your dormBragaw FTWthough moving in sucks if you're on the fourth floor with no elevators for all your shitI got in on the first floor so it was all gravythere are also sunbathing chicks out by the vollyball pit at Bragaw, though NOTHING like the numbers that populate Tucker BeachI lived suite style the whole time on campus and I liked it, though I really regret not making more friends in a hall-style dorm now that I'm off campus
3/26/2008 4:52:56 PM

Go ahead and put down Berry or Becton basement. These are the two non-honors parts of the quad. Because of the extremely high-quality of the quad along with the proximity to Clark dining hall, these spots fill up fast. You should go ahead and put down berry or becton basement just to try and get a slot. If they are already full you can still probably get your 2nd choice.-DE

The Tri-Towers are the best there is for living near class, but I wouldn't quite say they're great for meeting people. You come to know the guys in your suite of course, but you definitely won't get the exposure from hall style.
3/26/2008 9:14:09 PM
owen my freshman year, lots of ppl to meet on hall style on one floor, segregated floors let anal RA enforce the visitation hours more. i liked it.carroll the next year, girls like 30ft away, closer shitter, trash chute. liked that too. but fucking syme/north and all the stupid far away stuff is dumb, lee seemed alright the little i was there but thats a hike yo
3/26/2008 9:24:22 PM
I lived in North...I'd recommend Bragaw. My friend she had on of the biggest rooms in Bragaw. Windows on two whole walls...a suite located in the bend of the X on the second floor and at the end near the bathrooms. Great size and close to many things. She lucked out getting it her freshman year too.
3/27/2008 12:26:18 AM
This guy saying to live in UT is an idiot.Isn't North the black dorm?[Edited on March 27, 2008 at 2:02 AM. Reason : sdf]

yes, it's the black dorm.

It depends on your major a lot. Owen and Tucker are First Year College, almost exclusively.Alexander is Global VillageTurlington is Arts VillageRegardless of where you live you can eat at Clark or Fountain. I don't care what the housing/dining web site says, this is the truth. Also you can eat at Case, just not for supper unless you are a varsity athelete.Avent Ferry and Wood are hellishly far from everything. Wood is nowhere near a 45 minute walk to Clark, but it isn't eight unless you are a lot faster than me.ALL DORMS HAVE A/C NOW. All dorms therefore are "premie" cost. I dont talk to anyone I meet in Tucker last year.Hall styles are better than suites. Apartments are cheaper, if you get a good one, and a roommate. Unless you are on the Wolfline, parking will suck the life out of you, and make you late for class occasionally.I work for housing. Anything else, just let me know. Also, when you submit your housing application, you must chose one dorm on Central Campus, one on East Campus and one on West. These three you will order as choices 1, 2, and 3.[Edited on March 27, 2008 at 7:17 AM. Reason : more info]

i lived in berry basement my freshman year back when it was all girls and before the renovations. no sunlight came into the room, which made it great for sleeping in, but like a dungeon to live in. it was nice walking right out the door and into clark dining hall though. i lived in welch sophomore year and the triad area is nice, especially if you're a CHASS or design major because all of your classes are pretty close...not to mention ghetto parties off hillsborough.two years in the dorms is about the max time for anyone. it's fun while it lasts because most of your friends come from your dorms, but after two years it's time to enjoy your own room and bathroom. definitely go for hall style too. both my dorms were hall style and it made it easier to make friends.
3/27/2008 7:07:38 PM
Wood sucks...lived there Freshman Year...they get bombarded by millipedes every March-ish...Bragaw ftw!
3/27/2008 11:40:56 PM
sixth floor Bowen 94-96
4/13/2008 1:25:14 AM
avent ferry is overrun by indians and ghetto black peopleif i were going to live on campus somewhere, i'd probably live in bragawthat being said, you're much better off living off campus... even if it's somewhere like the college inn
4/13/2008 11:45:19 AM
^ ughh college inn!!?? hell NO, don't ever live there.
4/21/2008 1:25:25 AM
i lived at college inn the first year...lol we wrecked that place
4/21/2008 1:31:28 AM
i didn't go to State freshman year, but all my friends lived in UT and i always had a lot of fun there, plus the food was good
4/23/2008 3:15:16 PM
- Stayed in Becton Basement my freshmen year (2001) and loved it. Decent size rooms and beautiful part of campus.- Stayed in Bowen my sophomore year and hated it. The tri-towers have extremely small rooms and not a fan of suite style dorms. Everything echoes in a suite therefore making it extremely difficult to sleep when your suitemate is screaming at the top of his lungs for his running back on Madden to "run motherfucker! run!" Also, in a hall style dorm, there are usually two or three doors always open no matter the time. I bummed pizza off many people I never knew when pulling all-nighters and just wondered down the hall for a break.- Stayed in Gold my junior year and loved it.
4/25/2008 10:06:25 PM
Bragaw is the best one, but you probably won't get in your freshman year. Try to live there your soph. year. I lived in Sullivan my frosh year (it was ok), Bragaw soph. (which was awesome) and then got an apt. I'd say try for Tucker or Owen your frosh year.Definitely live on campus at least 1 or 2 years, dorms are usually where you meet most of your friends. Don't live with a HS buddy or you won't hang out with new people, go potluck if you live in a hall. The HS buddy thing can work ok in a suite because you'll meet your suitemates and their buddies.
4/26/2008 12:46:39 AM
UT Duh.

Look, the answer is Alexander. It's hard to be humble when you're the best
4/26/2008 8:48:57 PM
The Quad (berry, becton, bagwell) is all honors now. Unless you have a friend there, I don't think you can get in...
