Every once in awhile there comes along a player that is universally loved. David Thompson is a great example of this. I have never heard a UNC, a Duke, or any other kind of fan bad mouth Thompson. They always talk about how much they enjoyed watching him play. Other seemingly universally loved players were Michael Jordan, Spud Webb, and Muggsey Bogues. Curry seems to be that kind of player. The universally loved players usually have charisma, have amazing athletic ability (either in general or for their size), and wow you every time they touch the court. This is much different than the more common universally hated players that can only be loved by their team's fans, and some of them hate them as well. For every Thompson or Curry there are seemingly 20-30 Rashand McCants, Steve Blakes, and Christian Laettners out there. Players that have a seemingly unearned sense of entitlement about them. Some of them are outstanding players in their own right and others are just good players that play on good teams. You can simply watch them play and say "yep that guy's an asshole". You don't even have to have met them irl for you to know that their is a 99.9% probability that they are an asshole.I've enjoyed watching Curry play these past two years. He's fun to watch and it's good to see a guy that has been raised the right way. You can tell he had good parenting and that he has a good relationship with his mom and dad.

Don't really know if we would "love" Curry if he was in the ACC. And Michael Jordan isn't necessarily "universally loved." He's universally respected and revered as the best basketball player ever...just as David Thompson is as a college basketball player (and I guess he's loved more somewhat because of his overcoming a drug problem and going around as a motivation speaker and trying to help kids).I'm just saying that it's easier to "love" Curry because he's an underdog...a David in a David/Goliath situation. Its not even that he was passed over by the big programs and plays for little Davidson....he even looks like he's 12 years old and out of his league physical-wise. However, if he was in the ACC dropping 30+ on us two/three times a year and showing emotion...we might still respect him, but we wouldn't love him. I respect Singletary, but I don't love him when he drops 25pts and 9 assists on us.You put Donald Hand, CC Harrison, Roger Mason, Juan Dixon, etc... on a team like Davidson, and you get the same "universal love." You put them in the ACC, and you respect them, but you don't love them. It's all in the surrounding circumstances.

JJ Redick wasn't accidentally left off my list. I actually enjoyed watching him play b/c he hit big shot after big shot. Now when he was playing against State I hoped he either went 0-whatever shooting or rolled an ankle trying to flop and end up out of the game early on. I also enjoyed watching Redick light up UNC. I understood why people hated him, but I never really did, even though I still cringe at the thought of the 2003 ACC Championship game.

^ yeah I heard that too, the Wisconsin radio team wasn't the only people thinking that way. Packman himself wasn't giving Davidson a chance. Also, Kilgo is the ultimate UNC homer, I feel sorry for the Davidson fan base to have to put up with such a grumpy old man as the voice of the Davidson Wildcats.
3/28/2008 10:04:30 PM
kid is ridiculous. I don't know if i've seen much like it before
3/28/2008 10:35:57 PM
I'm officially a fan
3/29/2008 12:19:19 AM
I hope he stays 4 years...and can win a NC basically by himself. That'd be awesome to know I witnessed one of the greats because I know I've seen others, but I wasn't really old enough to appreciate it like this.
3/29/2008 12:59:55 AM
i would wager that if he stays another 2 years, they never get close to this point in the tournament againnow or never, keep rollin
3/29/2008 1:00:42 AM
^I wouldn't wager that. They are a regular in the tourney and McKillop always has his guys prepared.[Edited on March 29, 2008 at 1:23 AM. Reason : And a big fucking egg on Skip Bayless face...Ill be sure to tune in tomorrow to hear what says]
