3/25/2008 5:39:52 PM

3/25/2008 8:56:34 PM
Everything except my neck has a good, potent, constant ache, and from my lower ribs to my abdomen hurts a lot. lower back has pretty significant sharp pains, too.the worst burn on my leg is looking OK-- but I don't think the hospital is caring for it enough, so I think i'm going to start doing it myself more often. One of my nurses applied a ton of the special cream to my good skin & that turned out badly-- so I had someone call the pharmacy to tell me how it's supposed to be done. That way I can make sure they do it right. OH- and i've got a ton of bruises that continue to get prettier every day I just have to keep requesting the pain meds before they wear off-- I figure I may as well use it while I can.[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 8:59 PM. Reason : ^ LOL... TRUE, but no JB Weld is going near my liver... hahaha]
3/25/2008 8:57:57 PM
awww don't be such a pussy.
3/25/2008 9:04:33 PM
def keep ahead of the pain.. it takes a lot more to stop pain after it gets intense than it does to keep it numb constantly.
3/25/2008 9:08:34 PM
^^ I'm just taking the meds while I have to be here... IMO there's no point in roughing it out while I have to be in here. I could definitely go without, it's just unnecessary to try & act all tough if i'm stuck in here anyway.
3/25/2008 9:16:16 PM
i was just joking about the jb weld.
3/25/2008 9:28:30 PM
haha. yeah. i think i read it wrong the first time... i'm super drugged up right now sry.

3/28/2008 11:49:25 AM
i didn't eat it , but apparently danny did when i fell asleep (along with the rest of my tray LOL)From the outside it looked like orange jello w/ little carrots all in it (like slaw consistency)Danny said it was actually carrots, pineapple, & something like mandarin oranges in orange jelloThe cafeteria called it 'Sunshine salad.'[Edited on March 28, 2008 at 1:41 PM. 3/30/2008 12:20:33 AM
nice. so what's the prognosis? just take it easy for a while? any danger of future problems/complications?
3/30/2008 12:44:01 AM
i'm not allowed to do much of anything for a good long whileno large crowds-- someone might run into me[i.e. If I were in HS I couldn't go to school b/c the halls would be too crowded during class changes to be reasonably safe]no kids -- they might hug me too tight or run into me or do something dumbno animals -- they might jump on meno swimming pools -- I might get kicked or just generally screw something upno runningno contact sports whatsoeverno 'roughhousing' no dirtbikesno eating leafy greens [thins the blood-- could possibly cause new bleeding to occur in my liver]no lifting anything even remotely heavy [i.e. no taking books to class at all... ]the list goes on & on-- essentially, all I can do is walk in sparcely populated areas right now..apparently, from what i've been told...if anything happens to upset the clot that's keeping my liver from bleeding, then that is really, really badi would most likely have to go have lots of blood transfusions and surgery and other fun stuff -- easily fatal if they can't get the bleeding back under controlyay for happy posts! hahaha... wings are fine as for beer-- well, I jokingly asked about drinking... they just blatantly ignored my questionJen- haha... i think a pedicure would be glorious I wonder if I could get doctors orders for one As for Cookout-- well, I'm not supposed to drive & Danny's in Pensacola -- so it's all about some campbell's soup & ramen for a few days (But I did stop to get Cookout on the way to the ER last Sunday!! ER lady was SOOO pissed I was eating! hahahahahahaah)

So as a person who never goes to the hospital unless I KNOW something is broken... Was it the burn that convinced you to go to the hospital? I think I personally would have passed off the pain as something I deserved for doing something stupid (I am not talking about you and what you did, I'm talking about the MANY times I've injured the piss out of myself and not gone to the hospital) and then died... that scares me...so what prompted the ER trip?PS: very glad that your out and doing better[Edited on March 31, 2008 at 2:04 PM. Reason : Glad to hear she's doing well considering]
3/31/2008 2:03:12 PM
^to respond-- [caution: words]I've experienced moparnum5 & aias both wrecking their street bikes and have been around for the entire recovery from their wreck(s). So, when I didn't feel like anything was broken, I wasn't worried at all. I felt like shit-- but like you said, I thought it was deserved and that I was just badly bruised & scraped up, so nothing to really worry about. I had no neck pain at all-- which really surprised me because of the way that I landed-- THANK GOD FOR HELMETS & me having the sense to make sure I secured it -- so I really thought I was in the clear. It wasn't until I got home and was working to try to clean myself up that I realized that I had the burns, including a 3rd degree burn. I've had lots of first aid training, but I'd never dealt with bad burns and was apprehensive about whether I had the knowledge to know what it needed. Jason had a lot of luck just going to student health for his bad road rash on his hand, so I figured I would try to go there and get help (plus, the people in the ER at the Cary Wake Med were real asses to Danny & I have always been misdiagnosed for $texas every time I have been to an ER... so I was trying to avoid it at all costs). The burn was still worrying me though, because that part of my leg had no feeling whatsoever & it literally looked (ok-- still looks) like cooked chicken . I called the 24hr student health line, a family friend who used to work on an ambulance, and did lots of searching online. Everything told me to go to the ER-- so I finally gave in to being safe rather than sorry after a few (3) hours of debating. When I got to the ER, still didn't have any idea about the whole liver thing. Since we had had a bad experience at the Cary Wake Med, we drove over to Rex to the ER. They put me into the quick turnover minor section-- and weren't taking me seriously at all because to them the burn was really small. The nurse had already written me off and bitched at me because I was eating in the waiting room (I was fricken hungry-- so shoot me), but when the doc came over -- I guess I started talking about the accident and something set him off so he suggested that I get a few CT scans (head, neck, & abdomen) and a chest Xray just to be sure I didn't have any internal injuries. Lo and behold, he returns about an hour later to tell me that I have a broken liver-- and as I think I've said before-- he had to repeat 3 times... before I would believe he wasn't kidding. Thankfully, the ER doc's wife was a trauma surgeon over at Wake Med and he knew they would be able to watch my condition a lot better over there since they specialize in trauma. He made a lot of calls to people he knew personally over there, and I got transported over really quickly and the people at Wake Med ER were waiting for me when I got there. I was amazed by how great everything transitioned. All the trauma docs that were there came down and looked me over and talked to me... and a few hours later I got put into SICU for constant surveilance.Point of all this-- I had NO IDEA about my liver. I fear that if I had waited to go to student health Monday morning, they wouldn't have caught it either. However, my first nurse in SICU said my body would have told me by then because there was a lot of internal bleeding going on. I dunno-- I'm just glad I got over the $$ worry and went in (thank goodness for insurance!!! ).Ok- sorry for the novel... hope that answers your question. This whole ordeal has caused me to wonder how often we hurt ourselves a lot worse than we know and just heal naturally.P.S. Thanks [Edited on March 31, 2008 at 10:36 PM. Reason : ]
