So yet another "scary" movie that isn't scary at allsigh
6/1/2008 8:05:53 PM
this movie was garbage.
6/1/2008 8:18:31 PM
my boyfriend and i were talking about how funny it would be to roll up in the theater at the end wearing masks like the ones in the movie.it kind irritated me why they took the masks off when they killed them, but then it never showed their faces...grrrr.and that kid at the end: "are you a sinner?"that creeped me out. i totally thought she was gonna like strangle him on the spot. haha

If this did not scare you, you probably actually don't like scary movies. You like being the guy that likes obscure '70/'80s b-grade cult horror films that were even less scary but seem hip in a retro-kinda way. You know the type. "This movie didn't scare me, but 'Dr. Giggles' left me in stiches!" Personally, I really really liked this movie. It's the best slasher flick I've seen in a long time. It kept the suspence well and really made me hollar in a few places. Obviously it wasn't as great as the movies it's borrowing from (Halloween, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, etc), but it was still really well done. I think it was def. worth the $7.00 i paid to see it.On a side note, I think this probably just one of the last death rattles of the slasher movie genre. I think people are getting progressively used to the "jack-in-the-box" scares these movies typically rely on (this movie actually realized that and used that to its advantage. you'll find yourself being misdirected many times). You'll find the future of horror in Asia. Films like "The Ring" and "The Grudge" go beyond slasher films by focusing on creating creepy moods that stick with you for days after leaving the theatre.Of course...I say that with very little exposure to foreign horror films. So feel free to disagree. I just know that The Ring freaked me the fuck out! Best horror movie of the decade y'all![Edited on June 2, 2008 at 9:52 AM. Reason : ``]

actually, i think the horror movie industry has gone the way of torture porn.
6/2/2008 10:10:08 AM
^ You could be right. Saw made it's way to 3 sequels, cashing in on the cheap thrill of watching someone squirm in pain. Not to mention Hostel 1 & 2 and similar type movies.I would argue that they are both rising subgenres of horror. Monster Movies also are making a come back too. Signs, The Mist, Cloverfield, The Happening (it looks like one anyways).

I don't enjoy the slasher gore loud noises movies that call themselves horror.I agree though, I enjoy "scary" movies like the ring much more, as I would much rather be completely creeped out instead of squirming because of another hook into someone's eyeballI dunno, just not my thing I guess

"What I do is, I sit on my hand for, like, 15, 20 minutes, until it goes numb. No feeling at all. And then I rub one out."

I liked it...was definitely scared that night when I got home. Of course there are some things that were irritating (splitting up, not shooting the killers, crawling around outside aimlessly) but for the most part it was a genuinely scary movie. I have googled and it seems that the "true story" that the movie is based on is like two or three stories put together but none of them can actually be found in detail anywhere I looked. ----spoiler------ also, my thoughts about the masked killers were that when they pulled them off they were all deformed or something, because Liv Tyler looks away when the dude takes his off first. And in the side mirror of the car you can kind of see his face, and it looks like its burned or something. thoughts??

^^i remember watching her face when he took off the mask to see if she had any kind of reaction (surprise, recognition, disgust, etc) but i really didn't see anything, as if the guy was a totally normal looking stranger. i think she looked away because she realized why they were taking off the masks. once you've seen their faces, they can't let you live.[Edited on June 2, 2008 at 4:14 PM. horror movie killers know better than to kill everyone offif you don't leave someone alive at the end, then there's no one around to tell the story and go through the pain of having to relive the situation over and over in their head for the rest of their life

^^she did you a favor and saved you 10 bucksit was that bad[Edited on June 2, 2008 at 6:50 PM. Reason : thats my opinion though...maybe you would've liked it...if so, fuck that bitch ^^]
6/2/2008 6:48:27 PM
you could always google the actors who played the strangers
6/2/2008 7:41:46 PM
6/2/2008 8:49:58 PM
waitso who are "the strangers"?the killers or the victims?
6/2/2008 9:13:39 PM
good questionI think the killersbut it could also be the victimsthat wasn't thier main house...just their summer houseso the killers could have seen them as unwelcome strangers and decided to express their displeasure
6/2/2008 9:30:11 PM
or is it referring to the people who come to watch the film?
6/2/2008 9:34:06 PM
better than most horror movies these days.and it really didn't completely rely on jack in the box scares, a lot of it was about atmosphere and claustrophobia/isolation.and i hate the Ring. I'd take the Ring over Saw, but I'd take this over both.[Edited on June 5, 2008 at 12:12 AM. Reason : fdsfd]

^ I completely agree with you.I thought this movie was at least better than the half the crappy horror movies that come out nowadays.I give it a "catch the matinee" for horror fans. And it was cool seeing Always Sunny in Philly's Dennis....even if only for 4 minutes
6/5/2008 12:36:07 AM
Dennis was in some shitty sci fi movie a few years ago.he was eaten by something.
6/5/2008 12:46:09 AM
^ definitely on sci-fi then
6/5/2008 8:25:14 AM
wow this movie was awful!i'm going to make a scary movie where the main characters are actually intelligent.spoiler..............................................................dude has a SHOTGUN and he can't kill any of these mofos?i told my friends he wouldnt have left Liv at the house had she accepted his proposal
6/8/2008 2:26:39 PM
I was laughing most of the movie... Definitely would not recommend it. The ending was lame, I honestly just stood up and started walking out before the credits even startedBut I do blame the Mormons for all of this.
6/13/2008 8:55:28 AM
*******Possibly a couple spoilers******If they had done better with the ending, then this movie could have been pretty good. But the shit at the end was just stupid ("It'll be easier next time"......"Are you a Sinner?" "Sometimes"....The kids having no reaction to the bloody bodies....and of course that whack shit of Liv Tyler screaming and grabbing the kid...I seriously bust out laughing). And there was definitely some "god these people are retarded moments"....but please point to a horror movie that doesn't have those moments. It did have its pretty suspenseful moments...which is what I was looking for. The ending just took a away from the movie as a whole.
6/13/2008 11:40:20 AM
there was just wwwwaaaaaay too many parts of the person being right in front of them, they turn their heads or the camera pans away for a second, then back and the person has disappeared like a ninja.
6/13/2008 12:11:56 PM
^But doesn't that happen in almost every scary movie like this?? The Halloween movies immediately come to mind. Michael Meyers was always doing that shit...and he was slow-moving as fuck.
