My ideal way to do our banners would be individual banners listing years of 1st round appearances, 2nd round appearances, Sweet Sixteens, and Elite Eights. Then have individual banners for the 1973 undefeated season, the 1951 Final Four, all of the ACC Championships, and the 1974, and 1983 NCAA Championships. Then all of the jerseys. It would definitely clean it up a little. Also no banners for NIT appearances/championships whatsoever.

To answer my own question: The RBC Center is the 10th largest NCAA Div. 1 arena. 3 of the other arenas in the top 10 share with NHL teams.

When's someone going to complain about NFL teams sharing a stadium with baseball teams? ^That's because the November-December non-conf. games are so poorly attended and then our conference games almost fill up the place. Still should play a non-conf. game in Reynolds though.[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 11:41 PM. Reason : a]

^^True somewhat but this year RBC was only full for UNC and Duke. Some other games were close like GT but not full.

the Phillips one sided box arrangement is definitely different, didnt think I would like it at first but it looks impressive from the inside. Tennessee copied it when they remodeled Thompson-Boiling this past summer.^ I agree with that, it definitely doesnt seem like the home of a college basketball team[Edited on March 17, 2008 at 8:37 AM. Have any of you seen the pics of what the Orlando Magic's new arena will look like? It's set to open in 2010.Capacity:18,500 (NBA)19,000 (center stage concert)16,000 (end stage concert)20,000 (NCAA basketball)17,200 (hockey/arena football)

They could use white lettering, similar to that in their logo.

I wish some people would just stfu about how the RBC Center sucks. Do you know how many other schools would die to have a facility as nice as ours? How about you be grateful for once that our team doesn't have to play in an old ass, rinky dink building like VT, or a high school gym on steroids like BC. Could there be improvements made? Of course, but that holds true for every arena, especially ones that are nearly a decade old. Weren't we the first college arena to have the light board ring? I know we were the first in the ACC to have it. I wouldn't trade the RBC Center for any other college's arena out there, and that includes UVA's. We have an assload more suites than they do, an assload more student seats, and our student section encirlces the court. Soon we'll have HD video screens. Now if we could just find some way to convince the athletics department to just let the students stand on and entirely fill in the riser areas with removable seats rather than putting those seats down, we'd be in business. I don't see why this would be a problem, especially considering that is less work for the RBC Center staff when they have to do the basketball to ice hockey change over.
3/17/2008 11:26:36 AM
I like the idea of removing the seats from the student section. Seen other schools do this and it works fine. Tons more people in the section down there. You should be standing during the games anyways.
3/17/2008 11:30:50 AM
Plus I'm sure athletics would love this b/c then they could take away the upper deck student section and sell those seats off as season tickets.

3/17/2008 12:01:26 PM
i wouldnt say any other (since i haven't been to all of them), but we do have a pretty nice arena.
3/17/2008 12:02:52 PM
i can't believe you guys are letting Earl troll you like this
3/17/2008 12:21:23 PM
^^^ Which arena out there is legitimately better when all things are said and done? What I mean by that is niceness of the arena (like them or not, those 75 suites and 2,000 club seats make us a ton of money each year), student section setup (FedEx Forum is thrown out the door b/c their students just sit at one end of the court), parking availability, size of concourses, sightlines, etc.I just don't see too many arenas in college basketball that touch the RBC Center when everything is accounted for. We are very lucky to have such a building, and if you've noticed there are a bunch of schools out there that have built or are building/planning new arenas for their basketball program. Right now we aren't UNC or Duke where we can make an assload off of apparel sales. The RBC Center is the great equalizer right now for us. It's the only reason why we are tied for 13th with UCLA on Forbes' list of the most valuable college basketball teams. If UCLA had our arena, they would blow us the fuck out of the water and jump into the top 5.I do wonder what it could have been like though had we done a renovation and expansion of Reynolds Coliseum similar to that of Ok State's Gallagher-Iba Arena.
3/17/2008 12:44:08 PM
i'm not trying to be a dick, i swear, but a huge arena that's 80% full on a good night with boxes that are owned by carolina fans is not my ideal arena.this is not even mentioning the bad layout due to it having a hockey rink, or the hurricanes shit everywhere.whoever was talking about going to jpj arena and getting a real feeling that that was uva's arena, as opposed to the rbc just being a place where we play was spot on.
3/17/2008 12:50:03 PM
RBC center does have the "everything's there multi-center" feel to it. Watch a Cane's game, Go see the Tran Siberian Orchestra, see the Wolfpack play bball... etc No NC State feel whatsoever. At least Reynolds had "identity". Irregardless, this was probably the lesser of two evils. Far less people will bitch about that than playing in an old high school gym.

what are you guys' favorite old school arenas? here's some of mine.Hinkle Fieldhouse - Capacity: 10,757 (15,000 prior to 1989 renovation). Hinkle Fieldhouse was built in 1928. At the time it was the largest basketball arena in the United States, and it retained that distinction until the late 1950s. It is the sixth-oldest college basketball arena still in use, and was the inspiration for the design of Conseco Fieldhouse. It is most famous for the Milan Miracle in 1954, which was the inspiration for the movie Hoosiers.Allen Fieldhouse - Capacity: 16,300. No explanation needed. The Palestra - Capacity: 8,722. Opened in 1927. Dubbed "College Basketball's Most Historic Gym", this building is the unofficial home to Philadelphia's Big 5 (Villanova, La Salle, St. Joe's, Penn, Temple).Municipal Auditorium - Capacity: 7,316 permanent+3,405 temporary. This arena opened in 1936 and features art deco architecture that matches much of Kansas City's old art deco skyscrapers and high rises. When the building opened it was called by the Architectural Record "one of the 10 best buildings of the world that year," and in 2000 the Princeton Architectural Press called it one of the 500 most important architectural works in the United States. Municipal Auditorium has hosted more NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament games (83), regional finals (13) and Final Fours (9) than any other facility. The arena also hosted three of the first four Final Fours.
