^Yeah, May was key, especially when they played teams that didn't really have a dominant big man to take him on.I'd give you Williams > McCants, although I think Felton had the most impact of any one player.

Maybe the dumbest thread I've ever seen. You're asking if it was worth having the only guy (Hickson) who consistantly produced this season b/c other guys (Costner, McCauley) got sand in their vaginas?I have a better idea. Find a coach that can:1) get players to play as a team2) recruit PGs3) actually coach4) bench crappy players5) not wear a clown coat6) beat ECU
3/14/2008 10:10:38 AM
Seriously. Maybe he was a big part of the chemistry problem this year, but did you watch the Miami game when Hickson was out? We had 0 offense and our players looked totally lost.Granted, Hickson didn't play great the last month or so of the year, but other than that, he's been a stud for us. I can't imagine how awful we would have been without him in this game.

The silver lining would be that if you're good enough to go pro, Sid will get you there. So he can say to other recruits "hey look, i helped JJ get to the NBA, how about you?"
3/14/2008 12:29:37 PM
or....this creates the conversation.."Hey look, you've got talent. We know that.Come play for a shitty team, in a shitty system, and give minimal effort in 60% of your games, then bolt for the NBA, leaving the school you played for no better, and arguably worse than we were a year before you came."Ugh. Unfortunately, that's our best approach right now
3/14/2008 2:16:54 PM
we're fucked
3/14/2008 3:10:18 PM
I was actually holding out hope that he would stay another year but after reading his most recent comments, I think he's one and done. It's a shame too, with a year of experience under his belt and an off-season of conditioning and building muscle mass, he could have really dominated.

if JJ goes pro this year, then he must be dumber than Josh Powell. i pray that he is not that dumb
3/14/2008 8:00:44 PM
last we will ever hear of him
3/14/2008 8:04:34 PM
He might be giving this team a little of the old Josh McRoberts syndrome.

3/14/2008 8:15:29 PM
personally i do not care for "1 and done" players, no matter how good they are. it's a waste of a scholarship. if they go pro after one year they should be required to pay the school back. i have a lot more respect for someone who just skips the college process all together rather than waste a coaches time, scholarships, and missed recruits who maybe wouldn't have been as good but would have been a better asset to the team in the long run.
3/14/2008 8:50:33 PM
I am glad we had him, but I hate this rule where you have to play one year in college before you go pro. All that is doing is forcing players to go to college for one year and everyone knows they are gone after that year anyway. I wish they would go back to the old rules, so that college coaches would have to sign players that would be planning to stay.[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 12:02 AM. Reason : .]

i like the idea of using the football rule and requiring them to stay two years... and it was nice to see the team out this weekend celebrating their lossfucking great
3/17/2008 9:14:31 AM
3/17/2008 9:20:37 AM
It's three years for football, and that is primarily because very few college players are physically ready to play in the NFL until they've spent several years in a college weightroom and cafeteria. I remember hearing that David Stern was pushing to add another year to the wait period between high school and the pros. That would seem like a win/win for everyone involved. College gets high caliber players for one year longer and the NBA gets players who already have had national exposure for two years adding to the draw they will bring to the NBA. I suppose the only ones that lose in that scenario are they same ones that are losing now, guys like Michael Beasley, who certainly could have gone straight to the league and played from the first day.
