A lot of privately owned business, usually small, have a cash price and a credit price for items.

Yeah, but you have to know to ask for it at most places. I've found that it is pretty common to get around 10% off for cash purchases which can really make a difference. Cash is king because they don't have to worry about stolen credit cards, bounced checks, etc. Just say something like "can you work with me on the price if I pay cash" and most businesses will be pretty straightforward about what they will do for you.

credit card transaction fees are NOT that muchit's not going to put someone out of businessi know this because i have to pay them.
