Whats the big deal? In MK DD it wasn't much of a speed advantage on the straights...

Video of all 32 tracks in the game, he does a grand prix in every cup so the video is 2 hours or so longhttp://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/video-footage-of-all-32-mario-kart-wii-tracks/
4/9/2008 10:16:58 PM
placed my preorder today with an extra wheel
4/9/2008 10:17:31 PM
Just watched the video of the new tracks - several thoughts. The two track I'm most excited to play are Koopa Cove (like traveling in a clear pipe looking thing) and the tree level right after that. I'm not sure about the Kart vs. bike dynamic, but some of the wall jumps they do look fun - especially the one in railbow road. Still think they need to create a rainbow cup - made up completely of previous railbow road levels (64 was favorite)Guy in the video doesn't know how to use items worth a damn - three red shells on Yoshi Falls while in 4th place and he shoots all 3 in a row before they can hit the individual they're suppose to.

all i know is that nothing beats baby park in double dash
4/10/2008 12:50:17 AM
There is still snaking in the game but it is a lot harder to pull it off and it doesn't give much of an advantage in a GP. It will be more useful in time trials.

Just started downloading the leaked version. i'm off my game, damn thing leaked 2 days ago and I didn't hear about it till today. could have been playing already
4/10/2008 3:37:38 PM
so we've played through a couple vs. matches. starts out you overcompensate for every little movement, but its a pretty quick learn. still bumping into a lot of shit, and i haven't tried it with a classic controller yet but that may be the way i go. looks very nice and gameplay is good. 12 player races are noticeably more hectic than the old 8 player race.
4/11/2008 3:28:24 AM
I just don't see how playing on a standard controller will be as much fun as a wheel, they should diable standard controller options . Also, are the controls going to be the same for karts and cycles? If so, that is dumb.
4/11/2008 8:50:10 AM
so for anyone who has it, is online like smash bros in that you can only play with 2 or 3 or 4 people on one tv online if you play friend matches? or can you take 2 people to the random multiplayer mode online?
4/12/2008 4:26:14 PM
8.5 from IGNThey say the online multiplayer and community aspects are great, but the computer AI is more unfair than ever in 150cc.
4/22/2008 9:52:57 AM
Two days away. Too bad I'll be across the country and far away from my Wii then.
4/25/2008 11:00:39 AM
Anyone know of a place open midnight tonight for the release?
4/26/2008 3:41:03 PM
Gamestop is doing midnight launches at most stores.http://www.gamestop.com/gs/content/MarioKart-Midnight.pdfList of all their stores doing it.
4/26/2008 4:05:47 PM
Yeah I got a call from them about that. I wasn't planning on going to the midnight launch but Gamestop is only 2 mins away from me and I'll probably be up at midnight anyway.
4/26/2008 4:12:35 PM
im hoping to get a wii tonight for my brother : Dguess i should pick this up as well
4/26/2008 4:20:54 PM
will probably get this tonight.has anyone heard things about the racing wheel in terms of accuracy? my roommates and i will probably end up getting 2 of them but if they're really good maybe i can convince the other 2 to get some as well. wavebirds suck (i'm talking to you, brawl!)
4/26/2008 4:39:52 PM
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/the-definitive-mario-kart-wii-controller-showdown/joystiq sort-of trashed the wheel, but I know the guys at Penny Arcade thought it was OK
4/26/2008 4:47:18 PM
What is so bad about the Wiimote by itself? The wheel is nothing but a plastic case to put the controller in, so aren't you just turning it like you normally would? And why the hate for the Wavebird, my Wavebird works perfectly with brawl.
4/26/2008 5:43:33 PM
I think the wheel gives it weight and stability. I know my hands would probably shake too much.
4/26/2008 6:44:23 PM
maybe i can get this tonight if i can convince my g/f she needs it as a study break
4/26/2008 6:53:42 PM
or you can get a modded wii and burn it!
4/26/2008 7:11:26 PM
Well I guess the turning sensitivity on the Mario Kart is just higher than other Wii racing games. I played Excite Truck like that with no problem.
4/26/2008 7:12:45 PM
i hate the wheel, classic controller has been what i've used
4/26/2008 7:47:08 PM
Okay so I've been playing for a few hours now and I gotta say I'm impressed. I thought the wheel would be a gimmick but after playing with it, I've found it really does add to the "immersion". Online play is great too... it gives you a ranking and shows you who you are playing against and where in the world they are located. It is essentially everything that smash brothers brawl should have had in online play. I really like the level designs, there is so much crap going on in all of them. I've already been in 1st place only to be smacked with a blue shell seconds before finishing resulting in me coming last, but on the next race I was last place and got a golden mushroom and was able to speed to first on the last stretch. The only complaint is that (as was mentioned by a few reviews), the AI is so cheap in using items on you. Even playing on 50cc, the second I get a blue shell or a star, someone shoots lighting and I lose it. And usually it is right when I'm driving over a speed boost which results in me missing in then probably falling off the side.
4/27/2008 4:00:54 AM
we just unlocked boo. i are happy
4/27/2008 10:54:37 AM
My sister preordered this for me for my birthday shipped to my house, what kind of shipping do they typically use for preorders?
4/27/2008 11:40:34 AM
when you play online, can you use ALL the characters, or only the ones you have unlocked in single player mode?guy at best buy said they wouldn't get any until next month?
4/27/2008 12:08:08 PM
Went to Target this morning to get mine...Got it home and hooked it up and it froze my Wii multiple times and said there was a reading error. Actually saw a few things about this online. Returned it and got another one an hour later. <end pointless story>I am not a big fan of the steering wheel component and would rather just use the controller, overall fun game, probably will be a bigger distraction than I need...
4/27/2008 12:32:44 PM
yeah i havent played my wii in months. mainly due to just not having the time to play it. i bought metroid used in december and haven't even popped it in yet. but i bought mk today and it's definitely gonna get some use. (mk series, battlefield series, and ncaa are the games that i just have to play.) heading to a friends house tonight for some mk multiplayer action! [Edited on April 27, 2008 at 1:56 PM. Reason : toys r us had several more this morning around 11 btw.]
4/27/2008 1:55:41 PM
wheel isn't bad but I can't drift with itlike it overall, wasn't a big fan of double dash really and this one feels more like the 64 version which is the definitive one imho
4/27/2008 1:59:10 PM
4/27/2008 2:01:14 PM
the n64 had goldeneye, so it was 'cool' for non-gamers to have one.the gamecube was deemed 'too kiddie' by [madden/halo loving fratguys] so no one played the completely superior double dash
4/27/2008 2:22:11 PM
i like the tracks in 64 better, but perhaps thats just me.
4/27/2008 2:34:02 PM
Sweet game so far. Picked it up last night after flying back from LA. Being on pacific time, my girlfriend actually suggested going to get it and we stayed up till 3:30 playing. She's downstairs now and I just heard her scream "I don't like this course!!" -- so I think it's a winner.
4/27/2008 2:34:11 PM
picked up my copy this morning... the wii wheel rocks.....Took some getting used to, but I am kicking some ass with it right now....
4/27/2008 2:37:21 PM
Aha.My gf (who isn't a gamer by any means) just texted me and was like 'I JUST BOUGHT MY OWN MARIO KART WHEEL"
4/27/2008 3:04:20 PM
HOWTHE FUCKDO YOU JUMP?
4/27/2008 4:00:24 PM
the B button - you have to have the slide style set to 'manual'
4/27/2008 4:12:00 PM
what the fuck, 64 version was infinitely better than double dash.. are you people serious
4/27/2008 4:15:34 PM
bought it this morning... love it
4/27/2008 6:36:26 PM
Oh man, have you guys played battle mode yet? I just had a friend over and we were playing battle mode (balloon battle) and you can have teams of 6 vs. 6 (you can turn off CPU players if you want) and that is super fun. It is seriously like a giant dogfight or something. There is one battle stage called Funky Town or something like that where it is pretty much a giant skate park with tons of half pipe jumps and ramps. Good times.Oh yeah and I was just racing with the Wiimote only (let my friend use the wheel) and I gotta say it is just as good with the Wiimote. The B button is slightly awkward to get to but it isn't that bad.[Edited on April 27, 2008 at 7:22 PM. Reason : ]
4/27/2008 7:21:55 PM
How do you unlock the question marked cup races? all the websites just say, "make third or better in the bannana cup to unlock the next new cup." I did that, (on 100CC), and nothing unlocked....
4/27/2008 9:43:41 PM
online play can you pick any character or only the ones you've personally unlocked on single player mode?
4/27/2008 10:13:47 PM
My wife beat me in 1 of the first 4 circuits
4/27/2008 10:26:42 PM
I haven't played that much of it, but I am really dissapointed with the power slide in this game. In past games, i could call that shit up on demand, but now I have to fucking WAIT for it. What the hell?!?!?
4/27/2008 11:23:00 PM
^thank goddefinitely loving this game. the tracks are amazing. wifi play in my two sessions has been close to flawless.
4/27/2008 11:29:01 PM
^^agreed, I don't like that feature. Also don't like that you can't powerslide when you're just accelerating from a standstill. I'm so used to that that if fucks me up.
4/27/2008 11:49:12 PM
i prefer a cart cause i can control it better. i use the wheel and i cant get wheelies to work with any consistency on the bike. i pull back on the wheel and i go turnin left or right rather than poppin a wheelie.
