Video of all 32 tracks in the game, he does a grand prix in every cup so the video is 2 hours or so long

Just watched the video of the new tracks - several thoughts. The two track I'm most excited to play are Koopa Cove (like traveling in a clear pipe looking thing) and the tree level right after that.

I'm not sure about the Kart vs. bike dynamic, but some of the wall jumps they do look fun - especially the one in railbow road.

Still think they need to create a rainbow cup - made up completely of previous railbow road levels (64 was favorite)

Guy in the video doesn't know how to use items worth a damn - three red shells on Yoshi Falls while in 4th place and he shoots all 3 in a row before they can hit the individual they're suppose to.

There is still snaking in the game but it is a lot harder to pull it off and it doesn't give much of an advantage in a GP. It will be more useful in time trials.

That would be the least-played cup by far. The tracks are a good six minutes long (except for the SNES one) so it'd be a 20-25 minutes of races looking at the same hard-on-the-eyes colors.

so we've played through a couple vs. matches. starts out you overcompensate for every little movement, but its a pretty quick learn. still bumping into a lot of shit, and i haven't tried it with a classic controller yet but that may be the way i go. looks very nice and gameplay is good. 12 player races are noticeably more hectic than the old 8 player race.

I just don't see how playing on a standard controller will be as much fun as a wheel, they should diable standard controller options . Also, are the controls going to be the same for karts and cycles? If so, that is dumb.

so for anyone who has it, is online like smash bros in that you can only play with 2 or 3 or 4 people on one tv online if you play friend matches? or can you take 2 people to the random multiplayer mode online?

8.5 from IGN

They say the online multiplayer and community aspects are great, but the computer AI is more unfair than ever in 150cc.

Yeah I got a call from them about that. I wasn't planning on going to the midnight launch but Gamestop is only 2 mins away from me and I'll probably be up at midnight anyway.

has anyone heard things about the racing wheel in terms of accuracy? my roommates and i will probably end up getting 2 of them but if they're really good maybe i can convince the other 2 to get some as well. wavebirds suck (i'm talking to you, brawl!)

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/the-definitive-mario-kart-wii-controller-showdown/

joystiq sort-of trashed the wheel, but I know the guys at Penny Arcade thought it was OK

Quote :
"We've also come to understand why Nintendo is pushing the Wii Wheel so vigorously -- without it, the Wii Remote option is just dreadful. If you're worried about precision, we'd suggest a more traditional style (GCN controller or Classic Con). If you're looking for fun, take the Wii Wheel for a spin. Our best all-around controller scheme is actually the Wii Remote and Nunchuk combo. But seriously, no matter what your choice becomes, avoid the Wii Remote solo option at all times!"

guess it's up to your personal preference

What is so bad about the Wiimote by itself? The wheel is nothing but a plastic case to put the controller in, so aren't you just turning it like you normally would?

And why the hate for the Wavebird, my Wavebird works perfectly with brawl.

Well I guess the turning sensitivity on the Mario Kart is just higher than other Wii racing games. I played Excite Truck like that with no problem.

Okay so I've been playing for a few hours now and I gotta say I'm impressed. I thought the wheel would be a gimmick but after playing with it, I've found it really does add to the "immersion". Online play is great too... it gives you a ranking and shows you who you are playing against and where in the world they are located. It is essentially everything that smash brothers brawl should have had in online play. I really like the level designs, there is so much crap going on in all of them. I've already been in 1st place only to be smacked with a blue shell seconds before finishing resulting in me coming last, but on the next race I was last place and got a golden mushroom and was able to speed to first on the last stretch. The only complaint is that (as was mentioned by a few reviews), the AI is so cheap in using items on you. Even playing on 50cc, the second I get a blue shell or a star, someone shoots lighting and I lose it. And usually it is right when I'm driving over a speed boost which results in me missing in then probably falling off the side.

when you play online, can you use ALL the characters, or only the ones you have unlocked in single player mode?

guy at best buy said they wouldn't get any until next month?

Went to Target this morning to get mine...Got it home and hooked it up and it froze my Wii multiple times and said there was a reading error. Actually saw a few things about this online. Returned it and got another one an hour later. <end pointless story>

I am not a big fan of the steering wheel component and would rather just use the controller, overall fun game, probably will be a bigger distraction than I need...

the n64 had goldeneye, so it was 'cool' for non-gamers to have one.

the gamecube was deemed 'too kiddie' by [madden/halo loving fratguys] so no one played the completely superior double dash

Sweet game so far. Picked it up last night after flying back from LA. Being on pacific time, my girlfriend actually suggested going to get it and we stayed up till 3:30 playing. She's downstairs now and I just heard her scream "I don't like this course!!" -- so I think it's a winner.

Oh man, have you guys played battle mode yet? I just had a friend over and we were playing battle mode (balloon battle) and you can have teams of 6 vs. 6 (you can turn off CPU players if you want) and that is super fun. It is seriously like a giant dogfight or something. There is one battle stage called Funky Town or something like that where it is pretty much a giant skate park with tons of half pipe jumps and ramps. Good times.

Oh yeah and I was just racing with the Wiimote only (let my friend use the wheel) and I gotta say it is just as good with the Wiimote. The B button is slightly awkward to get to but it isn't that bad.

How do you unlock the question marked cup races? all the websites just say, "make third or better in the bannana cup to unlock the next new cup."
I did that, (on 100CC), and nothing unlocked....

^^agreed, I don't like that feature. Also don't like that you can't powerslide when you're just accelerating from a standstill. I'm so used to that that if fucks me up.

Not a chance man. DD is way better.

I didn't own a Wii till today. Went over to Nintendo World and picked up a Wii and mariokart, haha. Then proceeded to play it for 8 hrs. I'm not sure which controller I like better. I used mainly the gamecube controller out of familiarity.

What do you prefer so far, the kart or the motorbike?

i prefer a cart cause i can control it better. i use the wheel and i cant get wheelies to work with any consistency on the bike. i pull back on the wheel and i go turnin left or right rather than poppin a wheelie.
