good thing I said 95%... I agree that there is some out there that I like, but on average it has less bass, groove, "dirt" than other types of EDM. Its a very crisp, tight music, which I dont particularly like...

All dance clubs in this area blow

^^I dunno, you always struck me as the country/rock loving type who's response to this topic would be "are you a fag?" rather "omg i agree".
3/16/2008 2:15:11 AM
^^ motherfucker, I had them in my fucking dorm room in 1995, literally in my dorm room^ no, not at all, furthest from that, before I moved to Raleigh all I did was go to clubs M,W,F, Sat 10pm-6am for like 5 years

Haven is probably the closest thing to a dance/trance club around here. White collar and mosquito are similar, but neither of them are as good as the bars in NY or LA area, or even Seattle (but those are more gay bars than anything). As someone mentioned, there isn't a market here for large dance clubs like that here. It might change in a few years as Raleigh has boomed in the number of bars/clubs in the past 18 months, but I wouldn't hold my breath.Club Torch has had a few large techno parties in the past year, but like no one really shows up to them. And their lighting effects are pretty cheesy. Then again, it's a restaurant in the day and not a dedicated club.

downtown, warehouse district, north raleigh, a good number of bars have opened. Shit tons of new bars have opened in the past 6 months. Whether they are good or stay open is another matter. Most have been upscale bars for young professions to the mid 40's crowd, nothing really towards the college population really. The nightlife has increased, but I would still say its marginal at best. And that's stretching it. Chapel Hill has gone down a bit in the past year. I still yawn at these places.
3/16/2008 3:21:11 AM
omg i went to a dance club.
3/16/2008 3:22:38 AM
^^, ^^^, ^^^^There has been a lot of growth within the past year, but I think it has more or less stabilized right now. I don't think you will see anything massive pop up until you get more housing downtown.I think the next wave of stuff will come when 222 Glenwood, The Tucker, Hue, The Hillsborough, and RBC Centura are finished with construction and residents there move in. There is also going to be a bunch of new students coming in when Campbell Law moves downtown within the next year/so.Don't forget the new Convention Center is slated to open it's doors later this year as well. They're already booked solid and conventioners like to party after dealing with shit all day long.[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 3:26 AM. Reason : -]

^^ very true. They've completed a few condo's and I think two more are currently built, if not more. I haven't really checked with the real estate lately. Last I heard, the condo's asking prices were 200-300k a piece and aren't really being sold. That's probably due to the already high amounts of upscale housing nearby in North Raleigh and Cary. Besides, for most people coming to the RTP area, they usually are families and not single professionals, that or they are from New Jersey... I would say the nightlife will pick up steam again in another two years. Specially when they get rid of the ghetto parts of Raleigh near down town, but don't think that will happen in two years.

Haven is hip hop. I dont think I have ever heard dance/ trance there? If you want to dance, The Ice Room side of the longbranch is a good place. New music along with some older music. someone will have to embed this.http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=30386903http://profile.myspace.com/iceroom

well good luck man. i really hope you are a star
3/17/2008 1:16:22 PM
this is what happens when a DJ tries to play techno at a club in raleigh. within 2 minutes of the song playing, someone comes up to the DJ and tells them to play some "real" hip hop. if the DJ refuses, it's only effect is to delay for only a few minutes the envitable next person that comes up asking for "real" hip hop as well. these people will of course "know the owner" of the club.
3/17/2008 4:02:20 PM
Yeah, unfortunately. Good thing I actually know these managers and owners. In terms of haven, they do play 90% hip hop, but I've heard them play some house before. Maybe I was thinking that 5 mins was longer than it actually was...
