That's not that bad. One time I went out to eat and when I got the receipt there was a spot for Waiter and Captain. Well, I had no idea why I should tip the Captain but I was like Fuck It, I'll just tip the waiter 30% and if it's really that important the waiter can give the Captain like 10% or something. But seriously, what does the Captain do?
3/11/2008 1:34:49 PM
i always thought it was "bitness" not "bidness"
3/11/2008 1:37:56 PM
captain is typically 5 -10 percentHowever if you slip them a a 20 beforehand to get a better table, you dont have to leave them shit

charging a lot for veggies and/or dressing with your order of wings (even worse if they ask you if you want them, but don't mention the charge.

I usually order water but due to my accent for whatever reason lots of people can't understand what I'm saying. Although when I am speaking to people that aren't in the food industry, they seem to be able to understand me perfectly.
3/11/2008 2:26:15 PM
2.50 is getting close to a gallon of gas two junior bacon cheeseburgers
3/11/2008 2:26:24 PM
what kind of accent do you have where the word water is hard to comprehend?Maybe southern (Waw-der) or Northeastern (War-der) New York (Wadah) or British (Wahta) ? ? ?

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/personal/03/07/consumer.spending/index.html?iref=newssearchIts probably the constraints of our current economy. I guess the restaurants are getting pinched with higher food prices etc and rather than risking raising food prices they are doing it more passively by jacking up the drink prices. I just get water at restaurants 99% of the time so I did not notice this but I remember my GF pointig it out recently. I don't really disagree with the restaurants doing this as long as they don't resort to doing gay shit like fast food places do (i.e making water cups the size of a shot glass). Water is better for you anyway.

its the same thing with beer or wine. how much do you think it actually costs a bar for a can of PBR or Bud Light? Or to pour it out of the tap? (which is much cheaper) With wine you usually pay by the glass how much the bottle cost the restaurant.

3/11/2008 3:26:27 PM
beer and wine markup isnt even close to fountain drinksits significant, but not even close
3/11/2008 3:27:31 PM
if i think a waiter did a shitty job (and i mean REALLY REALLY bad because I pretty much always tip) then i will keep both copies of the credit card receipt so i can stiff him and not allow him to add his own tip. it still gets charged to the card either way
3/11/2008 3:40:55 PM
how do you think the tip gets into the computer?
3/11/2008 3:44:04 PM
ya know what, i never thought of that, im an idiot. thank you

the main thing I have against fountain drinks is that they don't get cleaned very often (bojangles on wetern blvd, im talking to you) and make the drinks taste like they have 'turned'.

I think he is saying he does not care if its a learning experience or not, he still feels its completely beneath him to work in the food or hospitality industry.

Yeah, pretty much.
3/11/2008 11:24:28 PM

3/11/2008 11:24:55 PM
ok back to the thread topic...places that still are cash only places that charge full price for soda refills (for those who are bitching about soda)yes this still happens in a lot of tourist traps

3/11/2008 11:32:31 PM
^ ive seen a lot of people ask for like 6 lemon slices and then use a couple packets of sugar to make something resembling lemonade[Edited on March 11, 2008 at 11:36 PM. Reason : .]
3/11/2008 11:36:19 PM
If I have lemon in my water, i'll take my fiancee's lemon too, add sweet&low, and bam, instant free "lemonade"
3/12/2008 6:48:20 AM
You people are some whiny bitches. Try living in New England where there is no such thing as refills. They charge you for a new drink every time you ask for another...at full price.
3/12/2008 8:07:58 AM
seriously? that's stupid.
3/12/2008 8:09:16 AM

There's this one waitress we always seem to get who really sucks, as in she forgets stuff all the time, doesn't seem to pay attention to us, etc. Once she didn't even bring us a merchant copy of the receipt, so we just signed the customer copy with no tip line on it and went on our way, because messing up the receipts was far from the first thing she'd done wrong that night. Then the next week when we went back she bitched at us for signing the wrong copy (even though she didn't even bring us the right one) and not leaving her a tip.
3/12/2008 10:16:38 AM
ahah i do the free lemonade thing also.usually when we have more than like 3-4 people at our table. i like mine sour, dont really care bout the sweetness. i ask for a side plate for lemons for my water and yesir, free lmaonade
