Did the mugger take your wallet or only the six bucks?

I doubt I'd risk a stabbing for the money, but replacing all those cards would be a pain in the ass.

Glad you weren't injured.

Not if the dude responds by stabbing you. Guns aren't magic. If he's scared off, great. Otherwise, he'll be able to hurt you before your bullets stop him. Once he's close, you might be better off employing unarmed knife defense techniques than attempting to draw a handgun.

Which aren't all that hard to learn. They trained us to do that in self defense class.

good situational awareness will prevent someone from getting that close in the first place. as soon as the suspicious crackhead begins to approach, you should be breaking leather and putting that shit in a low ready.........i did that once at waffle house at 3am before i was a cop, crackhead turned around and walked the other way.

See people...

this is why this stuff never happens to me.

Never bring a knife to gunfight Naggers. This would have exited my front right pocket in a matter of .8 seconds. fully loaded. .4 more seconds to fire. 1 final second to empty remaining rounds downrange at the other ngrs.

Giving the mugger a minimum of 1.2 seconds of stabbing time, assuming your bullets magically cause an instant stop. More realistically, he'll get 11.2 seconds or more if he desperately wants to hurt you.

oh good ole greenville...how i dont miss it.

especially waking up to gunshots at 8am a block away from my apartment...

or seeing some crackhead break into another guys apartment...

or having 2 friends robbed at knife-point right behind the ECU police dept...

or having my car window smashed in with a brick for them to steal all of my pennies and dimes but leave me quarters and nickles, all of my cds, radar detector, and other random stuff.

Repub18's comment about situational awareness is key. Relying on drawing your gat once someone's close could fail spectacularly. Even an assault rifle won't necessarily save you. Observe:

Uh, I'm not advising against self-defense. I'm just saying you should be realistic. In many case, the gun will scare a would-be mugger off. That's great. But you have to also be prepared for folks who will do anything to hurt or kill you.
