The one I go to sure as shit isn't making minimum wage. Has her own shop out of her house and is booked solid for weeks in advance. My 15 min cut is $15.. That's at least $50 an hour when doing easy cuts. Anyway you look at it there's no way in hell that comes out to $5 an hour.Judging by her huge ass house and lack of husband she isn't doing bad for herself
3/2/2008 1:06:36 PM
i told my girlfriend that it was ok to spend more on a hair cut
3/2/2008 1:07:32 PM
Whether or not I tip is almost entirely dependent on how long I have to wait to get my hair cut. I know the barber can't help that, but I hate going to the barber shop.
3/2/2008 6:41:22 PM
I thought black people loved going to the barbershop
3/2/2008 6:42:05 PM
$8 cut, $2 tip. Quick and easy buzz cut.But 90% or more of the time I do it myself.
3/2/2008 8:45:27 PM
The funny thing is, given there's about 30 million black people in this country, we're not all alike.

usually tip the great clips girl a buck or two, unless she fucks up and then she gets the dirty look
3/3/2008 9:41:14 AM
I get a discounted rate for hair appointments because I go to a friend who I used to work with. With her, I tip about the same as I would a restaurant (20%).
3/3/2008 10:12:01 AM
Costs me $11 to get cut. I give her a $20 and tell her to keep the change.
3/3/2008 12:12:28 PM
I pay $50 for a wash, cut and style. I tip $10. Since I'm growing my hair out for my wedding, I only pay this every 3 months, so it all evens out.
3/3/2008 12:23:09 PM
my haircut is only $10 most of it is with the trimmers and maybe 20% is with scissors. I always give at least $2 unless they keep my face mostly clear of hair then i'll give $5-10 for a tip.I hate pieces of hair all on my face!
3/3/2008 2:13:28 PM
$25 cut + $5 tip, extra at christmas.
3/3/2008 2:14:40 PM
I can't believe nobody has done some kind of "just the tip" joke yet
3/3/2008 2:21:20 PM
Standard $2 tip for my barber--and at his price, the tip is 5ยข more than 15%. I give $5 on special occasions such as Christmas.
3/3/2008 2:27:18 PM
12 dollar buck haircut5 dollar buck tip
3/3/2008 2:36:40 PM

3/3/2008 10:48:17 PM
I've never paid for a haircut.First me mum cut it, then I did, and now my girlfriend cuts it. I pay $0, and tip 100%
3/3/2008 10:56:10 PM
$200 for a women's haircut? are you fucking kidding me?The best style I ever had was for prom, when my mom's friend couldn't do it and I went to Fantastic Sam's for my updo.$15 + $5 tip. I usually pay 12-15 with a 5 buck tip, then again my hair is really short right now.
3/3/2008 11:08:01 PM
usually $10-12 cut/$2-3 tip
3/3/2008 11:22:21 PM
if I could still find $8 barber shops today I'd still go to them. a 15 minute haircut gets no tip
3/4/2008 9:37:08 AM
$18 + $4 tip
3/4/2008 9:46:10 AM
People who don't tip clearly have never worked for tips before.
3/4/2008 11:25:56 AM
Exactly. My old roommate would serious not tip over $1, no matter the bill..and he bitched about that. He called it "giving his money away". He didn't understand waiters/waitresses get paid like $2 an hour to work their asses off and depend on tips for any real incomeOnce upon I was a Chinese delivery boy.
3/4/2008 11:28:06 AM
Six minutes at great clips yesterday. New record. She also gave me the $2 employee discount so I tipped her an extra $1.
3/4/2008 11:47:51 AM
I hope you didn't have to sleep with her to get that discount.
3/4/2008 11:52:12 AM
when i used to get it cut by people: $18 wash & cut, $5 tipbut i got tired of people messing it up so i bought some $15 clippers and do it myself now.
3/4/2008 11:59:46 AM
3/4/2008 12:16:36 PM

why would you assume that the barber/stylist/haircutter person gets 100% of the priceit's a business for a reason

I go to a guy that gives half off to college kids. I tip $5 because I'm getting out of there cheaper than most.
3/6/2008 9:32:13 AM
I love being a hair model. Cut, color, foils, blow dry, eyebrows... about a three hour affair, would be about 250, for free, every six weeks. All I have to do is take a couple pictures for the hair books and agree to do an ad. She tips me in shampoo. :-)
3/6/2008 9:34:30 AM
haha i like that comment skwinkle had about sleeping with the hairstylist person
3/6/2008 9:48:45 AM
Some of you guys don't quite get it. Say your haircut costs $20 bucks. It's not like they get the whole $20 bucks. If they're LUCKY, it's a 50/50 split with the salon. Don't want to tip or pay for a haircut? Do it your fucking self. Unless they jack your head up, join civilized society and fucking tip. You're paying for a service that you can't do yourself, thus you should tip accordingly.
3/6/2008 10:02:29 AM
i dont get tipped at worki do things for people they cant
3/6/2008 10:20:21 AM
well maybe you should quit your job and go cut hair then. Wouldn't make as much money as you do now? Exactly. So STFU

3/6/2008 11:16:54 AM
There should definitely be a cheaper price for just getting your whole head buzzed. My haircut takes ~5 minutes for them to run the clippers over my dome and touch up the edges. And I still get charged the $15 bucks and tip a dollar or two... depending on either how attractive they are or how cool of a conversation we had.Should only be $5 bucks. And I do have my own clippers, but that just never turns out well.
3/6/2008 11:17:21 AM
Same here. Like I said above, 6 minutes for mine. Even if the person working there only gets $2 from the total cost of the cut that's still a good hourly rate.
