2/19/2008 11:29:57 PM

2/19/2008 11:33:27 PM
i didn't give two shits about college sportsi didn't realize the difference between nc state and carolina actually and when i told my chemistry teacher where i was going, i was confused when she acted offended (she went to carolina)
2/19/2008 11:35:00 PM
My peeps in MD don't know the difference either. Everytime I say that I go to NC State, they're like, "Is there anything to do in that religious town?"

2/20/2008 12:11:51 AM
Does this thread really matter? All that matters is who you "claim" now like tailsock does.Born and bred.....1) NCSU.....................2) UT
2/20/2008 1:08:06 AM
My friends and family in Maryland make fun of me.Their mantra has always been, "if you can't go to college, go to State."
2/20/2008 1:13:49 AM
b/c maryland is the greatest school ever.
2/20/2008 1:30:19 AM
^^ Yeah, the proper reply to that would be "If you don't have class, go to Maryland." And this is coming from a State fan, so you know they must be bad.
2/20/2008 2:39:22 AM
One time, my suitemates were like, "you're home state is classless," and I was like, "how do you know?"Peering at a TV screen I saw Duke playing at Maryland, with fans adorned with t-shirts that stated the uncesorable, "Fuck Duke."Gary Williams officially called them out after that.
2/20/2008 3:41:28 AM
I wasn't a fan of any NC college before coming here. Before me and my family moved to NC, none of us had any connection to the state whatsoever. Was previously a Bama fan, actually.

no
2/20/2008 7:57:30 AM
Since birth, my dad and uncle graduated in the 70's. When I was in kindergarten they let us pick a basketball with a team color and logo on it to get our picture taken with. I picked up a UNC one. Dad refused to buy the pictures and that was the only grade mom didn't buy the school pictures from.[Edited on February 20, 2008 at 8:10 AM. Reason : grad][Edited on February 20, 2008 at 8:12 AM. 2/20/2008 8:09:18 AM
Pops graduated from here, was in school during 83 champ... always hoped I would have similar luck when I was here, but as a senior i have seen some bad 4 years of wolfpack sports, nonetheless, born and bred Wolfpacker.[Edited on February 20, 2008 at 8:12 AM. Reason : ]
2/20/2008 8:11:52 AM
Nope, before I came here I was basically just a fan of NC schools, especially the ones that were good at the time. So usually UNC or Duke.
2/20/2008 8:31:23 AM
i was mostly a duke fan... but only because i used to want to play college basketball and duke was the only team that consistently had short white guys. i pulled for nc state because they were a home state school, but never did i like carolina.from the day i was accepted forward, nc state all the way.
2/20/2008 8:42:51 AM
i think my first state game was the Duke/State game in 94(?) where Jimmy V gave the speech before the game. Reynolds was really loud for that one
2/20/2008 8:59:46 AM
born and bred from a big state family GO PACK!
2/20/2008 9:01:26 AM
Nope. Never cared much about college sports coming from the northeast. I guess I would say I was a Seton Hall fan because my mom and aunt went there, and my aunt currently coaches there.I'll say when my parents told us we were moving to NC, I got a UNC shirt. But I was never a fan of any of the Tobacco Road schools before I decided to apply here.
2/20/2008 9:06:28 AM
nogrowing up in Boone in the 80s and 90s, nobody was a State fan. The only question w/r/t college sports was if you were a UNC or Duke fan. I wasn't really into college sports, though, so I was neither. It was only in high school that I started actually looking into what the schools were good at academically, and since I knew I wanted to be an engineer (and i couldn't afford Duke), State was the only reasonable in-state option. I was also a recruited member of the NCSU XC/Track teams, but sports fanaticism had nothing to do with any of my decisions
2/20/2008 9:08:40 AM
Been a state fan since I was 5. Basically, my parents were visiting some of their friends who were hosting a party during the 83 title game who were state fans and being 5 and from a family who doesn't care about sports, i had no idea what was going on, and i was probably bored. but towards the end of the game everyone was going crazy, and at the very end of the game everyone in the room (probably with the exception of my parents) were jumping up and down and yelling various wolfpack chants, and being a 5 year old i started jumping up and down too and trying to copy them, and someone gave me a little mini wolfpack basketball Living in greensboro in the 80s, you pretty much had to be aligned with one of the big 4. Once i got old enough to understand basketball a little better, i naturally gravitated towards state. My daughter can claim to be a state fan since birth. I think she has more NC state gear than I do at 2.5 months old.[Edited on February 20, 2008 at 9:14 AM. Reason : asdf]

I always loved State and hated UNC. All the douchebag kids I knew pulled for UNC.
2/20/2008 9:13:46 AM
Honestly, I remember growing up thinking that NC State was the hardest school ever to get into because of my parents talking about their friends who were engineers. Neither of my parents went to four year college after high school though.I've always been a state fan because I've always loved the colors. Duke was okay back in the day because they seemed like an underdog when they won their first title...I don't remember much about UNC unless State or Duke played them.
2/20/2008 9:47:03 AM
NopeLoved DukeHated UNC
2/20/2008 10:31:58 AM

nopenow i'm too far into the whole messmarried a girl whose dad played on the 74 teamhave waaay too much nc state memorabiliaand an intense hatred for anything blue
2/20/2008 12:17:24 PM
Not really.Elementary School: Probably a UNC fan, just because everybody in elementary school is. I didn't really care at all and just went with the flow. (I couldn't have told you the difference between UNC and NCSU until middle school -- "University of NC and NC State? There's just one NC, why do two universities claim it?")High School: Didn't give a shit at all.Senior Year of HS: Brother attended NCSU on the XC team. I suppose I was a fan, but certainly not a good one. I wouldn't have been able to tell you who the quarterback or point guard were. Probably couldn't have told you who David Thompson was. I just didn't care about college sports.
2/20/2008 1:37:24 PM
No, I didnt really follow college sports till I got to State (was a pro sports fan and only rarely watched maybe a State-UNC or UNC-Duke game)...but it only took all of my freshman year to get hooked on NCSU games and start hating the teams in blue.
2/20/2008 3:06:47 PM
i was born in raleigh to state fans and raised as such it has been a blast since i can remember.
2/20/2008 3:18:05 PM
2/20/2008 3:25:09 PM
I was a Duke fan first
2/20/2008 3:46:55 PM
Didn't pay much attention to sports until the later part of HS, but in MS and HS I aligned myself with Duke just to piss off my friends that liked UNC. By senior year when I was applying for college I said "Fuck Duke" and started rooting for State since this is where I wanted to go. My hatred of UNC has grown exponentially as I keep encountering more egotistic douchebags that root for them.
2/20/2008 4:00:34 PM
its so odd to me that so many people on here didnt care about college sports until they came to college... I dont even know what me and my dad would have talked about when I was growing up if it wasnt for college sports. We ate, drank, and breathed college football 365 days a year, all day Saturday in the fall it was either watching college football or listening to it while fishing on his boat.
2/20/2008 4:04:08 PM
^Yeah really, I realize not all of you are from Wake County but in elementary school we would stop class to watch the ACC tourney. Pretty much every year, and even into high school it would be on TVs at lunch.
2/22/2008 8:37:37 PM
Yes
2/22/2008 8:46:00 PM
^^ Word. In high school, come March, my soul mission in life was to convince the teachers to let us watch the ACC and the NCAA tournaments during class.
2/22/2008 9:02:38 PM
NO.Both of my parents and all four of my grandparents went to UConn. My grandfather in my Dad's side played baseball there and I was a fan from as far back as I can remember. One of my first vivid memories of college sports was when Christian Laetnner broke all of Connecticut's hearts in the Elite Eight in the "Dream Season" of 1989-90... I've hated Duke ever since (which explains my tepidness towards hating Carolina... the enemy of my enemy is a friend type of thing)..I root for State over everyone though, including UConn...[Edited on February 22, 2008 at 9:06 PM. 2/22/2008 9:06:16 PM
Don't hate me, but I grew up a Carolina fan. I didn't have much choice, my family still pulls for UNC. But I quickly converted to a Wolfpack fan and although I still would rather see UNC come out ahead over Duke, I pretty much hate them. This hate was verified on Wed. night.

I know a guy whose first words were, "Go Pack!"
2/22/2008 10:59:57 PM
i transfered from Louisiana Tech University for STATE's engineering program, but i've been a fan since Philip Rivers.
2/22/2008 11:03:24 PM
noI was a carolina fan when I was little, I guess just because everybody else was.I don't remember the exact date, but at some point in HS I decided I would go to NCSU (it was the only school I applied to!)
2/22/2008 11:11:28 PM
No, unfortunately. I didn't start following college sports until late elementary/middle school, and then I picked up Duke, b/c that's who my dad pulled for of the local teams and because all the UNC fans I knew were obnoxious about it. Always hated UNC so that was easy...started to actually like State around junior year of HS when it became likely that's where I was going.
