well shit if no one else is going to p2 this bitch i will
2/20/2008 1:50:10 PM
I thought this was going down at 8:40 tonight.
2/20/2008 7:56:12 PM
Moon enters the penumbra at 8:43 tonight, umbra at 10:01. When the moon enters the umbra, only refracted light will reflect from the surface of the moon, meaning it will be the same color as a sunset. Why the fuck am I telling TWW this? You already know this shit. What I want to know is, does anyone have clear skies and a nice telephoto lens that will be taking pictures? My 70mm on a 1.6 crop sensor won't quite cut it.
2/20/2008 8:04:12 PM
fucking clouds
2/20/2008 8:47:53 PM
so we really going to be able to see it?
2/20/2008 8:49:46 PM
I just got a glimpse of it... definitely has started.
2/20/2008 8:52:19 PM
Definitely progressing nicely now.
2/20/2008 9:04:51 PM
yeah i'd say 2/3 of the moon is gone. i wonder where it goes?
2/20/2008 9:25:39 PM
Damn clouds out here in Burlington. >.<
2/20/2008 9:44:04 PM
the snow cleared up about an hour ago...getting a gorgeous view of the moon
2/20/2008 9:44:38 PM
Damn clouds rolled into Greenville. I'll check again when its supposed to be fully eclipsed.Just maybe I'll get lucky.
2/20/2008 9:52:38 PM
i can partially see an eclipse, or i can completely watch sanford and sondoor #2 thx
2/20/2008 10:01:49 PM
looked good here in charlotte
2/20/2008 10:03:04 PM
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK i was at my aunt and uncles house a few hours ago for a little family time. back on topic for once:he owns a telescope thats pretty much "DA BOMB" as far as telescopes you'd find at someones house go. and he said we could check it out and look at the moon and all that, but seemed a little uncertain cause of the cloud cover. but still was willing to bust it out and play with it!!1 ~ damnit like from what i understand you can type jupiter in the fucker and it will be like WHRRRRRRRRRRRR WHRRRRRR ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM BEEP BEEP BEEP and then you can look at jupiter up close. or like plug it into the tv and just aim it around, or actually snap 349284902834 mexapixel pics with itdamnit. ive never played with one but always kinda meant to. and on the day im actually interested in doing it and have someone willing to let me play with an awesome one, i take off. someone hook me up with a link of cool pics of this, the nerd insde me is so mad at myself right now. had a chance to play with an awesome toy and just left. oh well, that just goes back to #2 on the TO DO WITH AWESOME TOYS list. here are the top 3 (i dont have access to #1, if you do, bring it over!):1) AWESOME METAL DETECTOR2) AWESOME TELESCOPE3) AWESOME FISH FINDER / DEPTH METER]]
2/20/2008 10:13:06 PM
partial cloud cover here north of Greensboro. Seems like every cloud "part" is in front of the moon though
2/20/2008 10:13:13 PM
I like how you can see Saturn to the SW of the moon and there's Regulus to the north a bit. We caught it during the breaks in the clouds.
2/20/2008 10:13:26 PM
clear visibility in QC, looks pretty cool but not red
2/20/2008 10:15:20 PM
also, not to thread hijack but what are some other cool toys to add to my list? like a YOU'VE REALLY GOTTA CHECK OUT A TOP OF THE LINE ____________ SOMETIME.it would be even cooler if its something ive/you've always wanted to play with. like my metal detector. always wanted one, now when i get one its gonna be one of the super badass ones that show what it probably is and how deep, etc.also, i used to love RF scanners. WHAT A COINCIDENCE. anyways, i used to have a badass 200$ one in HS, which was a pretty expensive toy for a guy working at the grocery store. and i always wanted the $500 one. now i bet i could get a FUCKING AWESOME one that will pick up everything and hook up to the computer etc.so add that to my list
2/20/2008 10:19:08 PM
Best I could do with my camera phone -- taken at 10:06pm.
2/20/2008 10:19:36 PM
I checked it out for about 20 mins while eating an ice cream sandwich and smoking some dopeI still say it looks like a testicle
2/20/2008 10:23:03 PM
I wish I was getting lit.
2/20/2008 10:29:54 PM
Just got back from Lake Johnson. The clouds held off for the most part...it was nice. There were alot of people viewing from the bridge.
2/20/2008 10:30:49 PM
you know it's not over right?
2/20/2008 10:31:59 PM
yeah it just gets old after about 15 minutes
2/20/2008 10:36:22 PM
Yeah the people I watched it with were like Why are you leaving, its not over?I was like...Its not like its doing anything
2/20/2008 10:45:17 PM
This shit looks really small on max zoom on my 18-55mm lens. Best settings I found on this cheapo lens was F5.6 with 3 second exposure.
2/20/2008 10:49:27 PM
wow...what a great nightI bought my girlfriend an Orion XT6 for Christmas and finally got a chance to use it tonight. The cover broke in Atlanta for a great viewing of the moon. But what was even better was getting to see Saturn. Even in downtown Atlanta, I was able to see the planet ant it's rings (with clear distinction between the two...black space between the two) and think some of the moons were also visible (saturn was the bright object sitting at about 7 o'clock from the moon). Also got a great shot of Regulus in the Leo constellation (it was about 11 o'clock or so from the moon). And the moon itself had great natural contrast for seeing the craters and peaks without having to use a lunar filter.Unfortunately I don't have a camera apparatus for the telescope yet, so this will just be one to remember in my mind for now.I feel like a school kid again [Edited on February 20, 2008 at 11:16 PM. 2/20/2008 11:15:10 PM
I GOT MOONED
2/20/2008 11:18:10 PM
i took pictures and they pretty well sucked
2/20/2008 11:30:55 PM
2/20/2008 11:33:18 PM
I'm looking at my pictures now, I'm pretty sure they all sucked. The view through the binocs though were great.
2/20/2008 11:37:03 PM
Lunar Eclipses,The day when everyone learns that they are not good night photographers.
2/20/2008 11:44:15 PM
shouldnt that be "the night when..."
2/20/2008 11:52:02 PM
I have some pictures that aren't too bad, unfortunately, with a 70mm lens I couldn't get much of a clear shot at the moon. It's more like a soft, red, splotchy circle.I could go for a 200mm lens and 2x extender right now.
2/20/2008 11:59:20 PM
this is the weakest eclipse ever
2/21/2008 12:15:43 AM
solar eclipse ftw
2/21/2008 12:41:20 AM
My moon pictures all sucked. So while I watched the moon, I'd just point my camera at something, set an exposure, and go back to watching the sky.Ended up watching the eclipse from Duplin Co
2/21/2008 1:05:01 AM
I had been hoping you'd post in here with some bombass eclipse pics.
2/21/2008 1:06:13 AM
^^ gorgeous pic[Edited on February 21, 2008 at 1:06 AM. Reason : .]
2/21/2008 1:06:41 AM
^^You think I wasn't hoping for the same? ^Thanks ]
2/21/2008 1:08:23 AM
Sadly, these are my two best pictures of the moon tonight.Somehow, I've failed to notice my 70-300mm doesn't have an aperture ring...so I could only tinker with exposure. Despite using a tripod and a 2sec timer, I couldn't get sharp pictures. The first is with my midrange lens, and the second with the telephoto]

eclipse pics, most recentIn a day or two, sorting by 'interesting' will yield much better results.
