What about GHIII turned you away so much? I'm curious.
5/19/2008 5:33:45 PM
It's way too easy in places, and way too hard in others. There's not the same amount of fun/challenge as in the first two. Technically speaking, the hammer-ons and pull-offs were too hard to execute in GH and too easy in GH3, but just right feel-wise in GH2. There aren't enough fun "big riff" songs in GH3, and the game makes songs that are easy to play on a real guitar incredibly complex for no reason. I didn't like the odd transcriptions of songs like "Heart-Shaped Box" and "Search & Destroy" in GH2, but I hated all of them in GH3. Finally, I used a pick with great success in GH and GH2 because it made playing feel more natural as someone who's played guitar since 1996...because of the strum recognition in GH3, I had to abandon the pick and it sucked what was left of the fun out of the game for me.
5/19/2008 6:23:12 PM
Well there you go. I agree about the hammer-ons and pull-offs. I don't think I ever completed a successful run in GH without trying to strum every note. Whereas I thought there was no way I should have hit some the runs I did in GHIII.
5/20/2008 9:54:43 AM
^^ you kidding me? Hammer ons and pull offs were garbage in gh2, you just had to hit everything.

5/21/2008 10:12:46 AM
How often do people use picks while playing GH? That's the first I've ever heard of that
5/21/2008 10:19:09 AM
I remember it used to be talked about a good bit back when GH and GH2 were popular
5/21/2008 10:39:07 AM
^^^^ The timing of the hammer-ons and pull-offs on GH was far too precise, and in GH3 it's way too forgiving. GH2 is just right.
5/21/2008 1:25:24 PM
gh3 was made by a different developer and you can tell, rock band was made by the early gh1/gh2/80s developer. And i think they are better put together games.
5/21/2008 1:54:44 PM
5/22/2008 3:21:31 PM
Well shit.That sounds pretty cool.
5/22/2008 4:10:28 PM
But if the gameplay still sucks, then who cares?
5/22/2008 7:58:22 PM
It does sound coolbut I spent so much on RB, there's no way I'm buying another one
5/22/2008 9:27:10 PM
Yeah, if you've already gotten rockband, there's really no point in getting GH4. However, for those of us who havent, it might be something to consider.\
5/26/2008 1:18:00 AM
I really think this game will sell like hotcakes on the Wii because of the Downloadable content. As much as I love Rock Band, there's no way I could conceive buying it on the Wii, so if the Wii was my only console I would surely wait for this game to come out simply because it's the only game for the Wii that lets you get new songs.
5/26/2008 9:20:16 AM
^But where are you going to store those new songs? I think the reasoning behind rockband not offering dlc on the wii is that there is just not enough storage.

Or find the appropriate thread to post in apparently.
5/26/2008 10:10:22 PM
I really think they should have made this compatible with Rock band instruments...they are going to lose a lot of market because so many people already have Rock Band stuff. If GHIV would work with the stuff, I would definitely buy the game. But since it will not, I will not be purchasing it.Nothing, not master recordings, not a song writing feature, just nothing will convince me to drop another $170 or so for another giant set of instrumentsoh well
5/29/2008 11:17:24 AM
^Agreed. I'm assuming that the game will work with the old Rock Band guitars, so I'll get just the game so I can play the guitar parts, but I'm not buying another set of drums and a mic.
5/29/2008 2:08:41 PM
+2, I already feel lame enough having 2 ps2 guitars, a ps3 GH3 guitar and the rockband set. I am tired of buying new fake instruments just to play a game.
5/30/2008 7:34:58 AM
I don't feel like making another thread about this, but they just announced GH: Metallica

i played this game for the first time this weekend even though ive seen it played a lot, (it was ghIII) and I really didnt like it. Im sure I would get used to it, and I only tried 2 songs, but it wasnt as intuitive as I thought it would be for someone who plays guitar. I know lots of people who play guitar and love this game (like my other guitar player who is the best GH player ive seen haha), so im not trying to work off that angle, but I was disappointed. the notes they wanted me to play seemed counter-intuitive at times to the actual rhythm of the guitar in the songs I played (ie randomly following the vocal or drum melody for a few notes instead of the guitar melody, especially on choruses)
6/3/2008 8:52:03 AM
looks like i am going against the general vote on this one, but i'm going to have to say i like guitar hero II and III better than rock band. Even when the take the loud, horse-walking-on-asphalt drums out of the equation, the feel for rock band is not the same as GH. And, not to mention, the songs on RB suck ass. i'm not able to download new songs, which is bullshit, so, i'm stuck with whats on the CD, and it sucks. GH II > GH III >>> RBhowever, i also will not be buying the drumset for GH IV. Like others have said, i already feel like a dork for buying toy instruments for RB in the first place.btw, http://www.guitarhero.com/us/has some video trailers of the GHIV drums being created and tested.
6/3/2008 10:03:07 AM
^Uh yeah you can download songs for Rock Band. Unless you have it for PS2 I guess. There are over a 100 songs to download for Rock Band. And yeah the guitar parts of Rock Band aren't as intense as Guitar Hero, but that is because it focuses on more instruments than just guitar.
6/3/2008 10:57:55 AM
and plus, most normal people can't do the insane guitar songs on GH
6/3/2008 11:18:53 AM
^^ Whew...that's the reason why I waited until I got a 360 to get Rock Band. The game is incredibly different on PS2, I've heard. Not nearly as good. I think I heard somewhere it doesn't have the Band World Tour mode? It just has a tiered system for the band songs.
6/3/2008 11:28:20 AM
I know there are tons of songs available for download. I would love to be able to download for the rock band and GH. I was saying that I could not download songs, due to the fact that i do not have highspeed internet access. and its not that i'm broke, its that i live in the boondocks.anyways, the songs that come on the game is what i'm stuck with. with that said, the songs are better on the GH lineup than the RB list, imho.
6/3/2008 11:29:09 AM
^ yea i think that's right.i couldn't imagine RB without the DLC.
6/3/2008 11:29:46 AM
i just don't know why they can't put the songs that are available for download on a CD and let me buy it. I know its all about money, but the people that have XBL will continue to stay on it, and the people that do not have the option would pay money for this CD of songs. I don't see why they wouldn't release these songs for sale for people that may live in the boonies.
6/3/2008 11:33:34 AM
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/882/882888p1.htmlThis almost makes me wish I hadn't bought Rock Band last month4 page article, so I won't post it all here. It has picts of the new hardware, and talks about the "create a song" mode.
6/20/2008 8:25:08 AM
this sucksrock band comes out for wii this sunday. of course i've been wanting it forever since Wii is the only system i have...then i hear about guitar hero 4 which has the same stuff basically...but i'm sure the hardware isn't compatible with both of them.so does that mean i'm going to have 2 guitars, 2 drumsets, and 2 mics in my living room?
6/20/2008 10:18:46 AM
meh, the guitar does look like it's worth it. I guess I'll have to wait until they sell the drums separately.[Edited on June 20, 2008 at 10:24 AM. Reason : ]
6/20/2008 10:23:42 AM
^^ yepI was surprised that no GH3 DLC will be compatible with GH4...seems a little greedy to me
6/20/2008 1:10:30 PM
GH2 DLC isn't compatible, why would GH3?
6/20/2008 1:41:28 PM
i will buy the fuck out of this, but i don't have enough time to screw with the music creatori'll let everyone else do the hard work and download their tracks, though

A preview by Game Informer suggests that Dream Theater may be included as well.[7] A leak from a market research firm also mentioned that the game would feature Tool and Korn.[47] A video demonstrating motion capture for the game also featured Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith along with The Police drummer Stewart Copeland commenting on the performance of the prototype drum set.[17] NOFX have also stated at a recent show that their song "Soul Doubt" would be in the game.[48]Other sources have provided information regarding the inclusion of other songs within the game, though such information has not been confirmed by RedOctane or Activision. Joe Satriani has said that Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2 "have just licensed "Satch Boogie" and "Surfing with the Alien" for upcoming versions, according to an interview with Satriani in Guitar World Magazine. The latter song has since been released as downloadable content for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock,[49] and the former has been confirmed as playable in World Tour. A Tool fansite revealed that Tool's Parabola, Schism, and Vicarious will be present in the game. At the San Diego American Idol Tour concert, a brief trailer of the game was shown with the twelve American Idol finalists playing the game, with the song "We're An American Band" by Grand Funk Railroad featured in the background.[50] The Jimi Hendrix estate has sent master tapes of the songs "Foxy Lady" and "Little Wing" to RedOctane for use in the game, but their presence in the final version has not been confirmed.[51] Sammy Hagar has also re-recorded "I Can't Drive 55" for use in the Guitar Hero series.[52]WHY WON'T THEY PUT METALLICA : WHISKEY IN THE JAR ON THE LIST!!! that song would be awesome.
9/3/2008 8:12:54 AM
because they absolutely destroyed that song (not in a good way)?
9/3/2008 8:21:48 AM
hahhawhateveri thought it was a really good songthe guitar on that song would sound good on guitar hero
9/3/2008 8:24:31 AM
About a Girl. Wow. Can't wait to see how they overly complicate a two chord song. However it ends up I'm sure it would be easier to play on a real guitar than on the game.

I am intrigued by this soundtrack.
