^I'm sure that was a factor too (and helps tremendously with continuity, etc.), but Bob Knight is savvy enough to know that just because Pat Knight was designated his successor doesn't mean the university couldn't end up looking around and changing plans in the offseason. The timing of this move gets Pat Knight entrenched in the job before the offseason. Pat was already responsible for much of the day to day operations of the TT program, namely recruiting and running practices. Dean Smith made a similar move by resigning right before the season to get Guthridge the HC job.

^^ ?????Davis went to the tourney three straight times in his first three seasons, including the championship game. How in the hell would an extra 10 games in a season that's basically already trashed help at all?Not to mention the fact that Knight thinks Davis is a traitor for taking the job at all, and probably feels vindicated that he failed.

^Yeah, Knight wasn't exactly asked for his input on a successor at Indiana, nor did he care to give it. There wasn't exactly any love lost between Bobby Knight and Mike Davis.

hmmm this could be interestingKelvin is in violation of rules so to speak, the way Indiana could get out of this is to fire Kelvin.Indiana owes Knight, i wonderrrrr, i just WONDERRRR if knight would go coach Indiana again.theyd be contenders...
2/14/2008 7:54:33 PM
No fucking way would he go back to Indiana
2/14/2008 7:56:53 PM
I think it would be awesome if Bobby went back to IU as AD and he hired Pat to coach.
2/14/2008 7:59:18 PM
Thats the most retarded thing I've ever heard.Hopefully Knight fades away into oblivion. He went out like a bitch, and now he needs to stay away from the game because he's the worst kind of asshole in sports.
2/14/2008 8:05:41 PM
haha he'd throw down on you, make you cry and blush like a little school girl.Pat would never go there, that would be stupid since he has the controls at TT.
2/14/2008 8:08:20 PM
I really wouldn't be surprised to see Bobby Knight back at IU, even if it was just to finish out the season and make peace.Name the gym after him, dispose of the bad blood, let IU be able to claim him as their own.. and TT is probably headed back to being a nonfactor again in basketball. I'd bet my money that Knight retired just because he wanted the hell out of Lubbock.
2/15/2008 1:16:56 AM
say what you want about him being batshit crazy, he's as good a coach as you'll find and never got investigated twice by the ncaa for the same violation.
2/15/2008 1:25:50 AM
He also had the highest graduation rate, year in and year out. Those who think it's plausible that he could end up at Indiana again obviously stopped following Bobby Knight sometime around 1981.

somebody like Bobby Knight easily gives me plenty of hope about Sidney LoweKnight has 3 national titles because he was able to recruit talented players to Indiana, and he is obviously a great coach. But how successful has he been at Texas Tech? Not very. He might've been the best active coach a couple weeks ago before he retired, but it just goes to show that you need the talent around you as well. Like a good point guard, for example.

i don't have huge expectations for sidney lowe's recruiting, unfortunately.like i've been saying though, john wall can make sidney lowe's career if he comes.
2/15/2008 1:36:42 PM
he recruited Hicksonone thing i thought about Lowe's recruiting before he even got here was that he would be able to get NBA caliber talent (ie Hickson)...his NBA experience both playing and coaching can help him let kids know he knows what it takes to get to the NBA and make big money...and we need NBA caliber talent if we want to compete with Duke and UNC year in and year out
2/15/2008 1:38:11 PM
he did recruit hickson. but the class coming in this year, unless he proves to be a great judge of talent, is mediocre.class of 2009 has to be stellar or this ship is going to emplant itself firmly in the bottom of the acc.
2/15/2008 1:41:01 PM
UNC has a lot more overall talent than us right?Have you seen how much they've struggled with Quentin Thomas at the point? PG is such an important position that I don't think you can really judge a team's full potential without having a decent one who stays healthy all season
2/15/2008 1:43:16 PM
ok, you're not listening.what i'm saying is the following:lowe can win if he gets good talent.i'm not convinced that he will be able to get good talent.
2/15/2008 1:44:01 PM
well i think his NBA experience will help him get NBA talentwe can agree to disagree but only time will tell
