There goes the hat trick. My fantasy team thanks you.
3/3/2008 7:39:49 PM
In the first period??? It wasn't a natural hat trick was it? I just saw the score and was like
3/3/2008 8:13:01 PM
Wasn't a natural. Now he is trying out his passing skills, repaying Backstrom for the three helpers on the goals by feeding him on a breakaway goal.
3/3/2008 8:20:19 PM
What's a natural hat trick? Does it just mean no power-play goals?
3/3/2008 8:21:31 PM
Natural is where you score 3 goals in a row in the same period. Bradley scored between his 2nd and 3rd goals, so it isn't a natural.
3/3/2008 8:25:20 PM
take that, Versus ad jinx!
3/4/2008 12:22:18 AM
A natural hat trick is just three consecutive goals, same period or not. However, when I say consecutive, I mean it...it's not natural if someone else from either team scores in between your goals. So this is a natty:1st 19:32 St. Louis (Lecavalier, Smith)1st 18:10 Ovechkin (Semin, Backstrom)1st 12:41 Ovechkin (Backstrom)3rd 2:19 Ovechkin (Brashear)3rd 00:12 Laich (Poti)But this isn't:1st 3:42 Ovechkin (Kolzig)2nd 4:53 Cooke (Fedorov, Ovechkin)2nd 1:10 Ovechkin (Backstrom)3rd 14:32 Ovechkin (Semin)
3/4/2008 3:11:28 AM
Did a goalie really have an assist?
3/4/2008 7:23:59 AM
^yeahPatrick Roy had sixty when he retired
3/4/2008 8:19:12 AM
3/4/2008 12:24:05 PM
that is fucking awesome
3/4/2008 1:10:46 PM
Assists are nothing...it's really ace when a goalie scores.Five goalies have scored in an NHL game: Ron Hextall (twice), Chris Osgood, Martin Brodeur (twice), Jose Theodore, and Evgeni Nabokov. Billy Smith, Damian Rhodes, Mika Noronen, and Chris Mason have been credited with goals, but they didn't actually shoot the puck into the empty net.
3/4/2008 2:06:37 PM
I like this Ovechkin guy
3/4/2008 2:54:56 PM
53 and 54 tonight for OV
3/5/2008 9:50:26 PM
beat me to it!
3/5/2008 9:51:34 PM
I remember when you used to get a free pizza from Jerry's when the Caps scored like 5-6 goals.
3/5/2008 9:56:37 PM
lol he stayed on the ice for forever at the end of the game to pick up the hat trick on the empty net. #55 back to back games with hat tricks.
3/5/2008 10:01:45 PM
Wait wat? I just looked at the box score and apparently he did not score #55. No one scored at the end. Apparently I just made it all up.
3/5/2008 10:41:45 PM
he and Dion Phaneuf are probably my favorite non-red wings players
3/6/2008 6:28:18 AM
I watch literally every Caps game now, and have attended 3 this season. When I watched from my company's box seats, they didn't really get any of MY money, but the point still standsThe $124 Million Dollar Bucks contracts seems like it was a great move for wins and revenue
3/6/2008 3:00:44 PM
^^cant go wrong with either.
3/7/2008 3:31:10 AM
on NBC right now
3/9/2008 1:53:13 PM
pwned by backstrom
3/9/2008 4:36:12 PM
Seems like the Caps playoff hopes are pretty much shot this year. But they will be a force to be reckoned with next season.
3/9/2008 5:55:56 PM
the caps could grab that 8th spot... i dont think theyre eliminated yet
3/9/2008 5:59:51 PM
they need to get smarterlast night they lost because brashear did something dumbtoday it was backstromalso, ovechkin is gonna get jacked up sooner or later, someone is gonna get sick of the fact that you're not allowed to hit a superstar even if he goes out of his way to hit you
3/9/2008 7:21:11 PM
Malkin jacked up Ovechkin a few weeks ago, hit him so hard that his visor cut his face...he doesn't get bothered by such things.Ovechkin wears 8 because he's the new Cam Neely.
3/9/2008 7:46:11 PM
^ i didn't see that hit, but i'm not so sure that he doesn't get botheredevery time the pens play the caps, ovechkin tries to make some kind of sportscentre top 10 hit on malkinsometimes with lolworthy results, e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZkPn9kjRFE
3/9/2008 9:02:13 PM
When I say he doesn't get bothered, I mean that he' not going to take issue with every bump he takes, whereas a player like Briere is going to be crowing for his agitators every time he gets finished in the corner.
3/9/2008 9:14:04 PM
3/10/2008 10:52:47 AM

3/12/2008 7:31:21 PM

3/13/2008 10:41:00 AM
this man is the reason the caps are still in the playoff race. no disrespect to his teammates, but without him they wouldn't even be close to a playoff spot right now.
3/18/2008 9:55:56 PM
and that's probably a understatement
3/18/2008 10:34:09 PM
dammit go away caps
3/18/2008 10:44:48 PM
this guy is sicknasty.
3/19/2008 1:22:30 PM
What team do you think would Ovechkin just flourish on, Wayne Gretzski style?
3/19/2008 1:28:17 PM
There are no longer any teams that play like the great Gretzky teams. For one, every team in the league is now much more focused on defense, and better coached, too. In addition, in terms of pure scoring numbers, it's important to note that goaltending has advanced by leaps and bounds. Look at how any given goalie reacts to a Gretzky breakaway in video from 1981 (the year he scored 92 goals and had 50 in 39 games), then look at how a goalie today reacts to Ovechkin.
3/19/2008 1:33:15 PM
So there will never be a 200 point season again?
3/19/2008 1:41:09 PM
Not even close.
3/19/2008 1:42:04 PM
I doubt there'll be a 150 season.
3/19/2008 1:47:03 PM
I feel as if my friend Philip lied to me about Ovechkin being the next Wayne Gretzky. If Ovechkin scores a goal and an assist in the final eight games and then the Caps make it through 28 games of post-season play, keeping the same pace, there could be a 150 point season. So no, I guess not.
3/19/2008 1:52:13 PM
even if someone is "the next Gretzky," like Brian said, the way the game is played now is so much different than in 99's era that it's next to impossible to put up those gaudy numbers.
3/19/2008 1:55:15 PM
Playoffs don't count in season scoring anyway.Ovechkin doesn't have the pure scoring/passing skill of Gretzky, but he's a much better all-around player. Gretzky couldn't hit if he wanted to, and he wasn't good in the corners without some wiggle room. Why do you think he had to have TWO enforcers? On top of that, as assists go, Ovechkin doesn't have the supporting cast that Gretzky did, and the Caps don't hang forwards for whole shifts.
3/19/2008 1:56:13 PM
Yeah, I know little of hockey, save for what I learned from the Mighty Ducks. Being from DC, I was a fan when the Caps had their little run to the Stanley Cup Finals and when Ovechkin joined the team.
3/19/2008 4:03:22 PM
SIXTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3/21/2008 9:35:32 PM
