^^it's not awfulbut there are nicer parts of town imo...assuming you mean NW and not NEif youre talking NE....less desirable quadrantthe NE 11th & Fl Ave is near the H st corridor, but if you deviate off H at night you're just asking to be robbed (no racist)[Edited on January 29, 2008 at 9:42 AM. DC is a city, period. Just because crackheads may not have their homebase in NW doesn't mean they can't wander into it. NE doesn't scare me nearly as bad as SE though. My favorite while living there this summer was the homeless man peeing on a Jaguar in broad daylight right in front of Whole Foods on P Street [Edited on January 29, 2008 at 10:12 AM. Reason : E]

one thing I noticed about DC... you don't see handguns here. All handguns are ILLEGAL. If you SEE a handgun, you are probably going to be SHOT with said handgun... they carry a serious charge here - so people don't generally carry them, and if they do, you won't see it unless you're about to be fired upon. Just maintain common sense and you'll be ok.In NC, I saw hadguns all the time. I was also robbed at gunpoint in Raleigh... never happened in DC and I walk all over the place.[Edited on January 29, 2008 at 10:24 AM. Reason : ]

Yeah I've had a run-in with a crackhead or 2 - most residents have. They're easy to deal with.
1/29/2008 10:33:37 AM
yeah, just give em some crack and send em on their way

there's not really much to SE these days unless you're out past Potomac Ave...although in the summer, I ride my bike out to Anacostia park to play softball and run down east capitol to RFK and back and ive never had any trouble. but esp below the 395 freeway, when people used to say crack was in DC...they were referring to the 1st, 2nd 3rd St. and K/M St. SE area...it was gangster...i watched some documentary about it...the only time ive truly felt unsafe in the city was one night over the summer I was up near H St. NE (by the hipster bars for some reason) and we decided to be drunk and walk to Union Station to metro up the redline to cleveland park....about halfway through the walk we were definitely being stalked up the block by a group of dudes, and one guy on a bike kept making wide circles around us...so we hailed a cab as quickly as possible and threw up the reverse a town down

On my first job interview in DC, I told the lady I was looking at places to move in DC - she said "Just stay away from SouthEast"I immediately knew I didn't want to work for that woman. My cousin has a nice "green" house on a nice street in Southeast off Pennsylvania Ave. I was actually staying there for a week before that interview; never heard anything, never saw or heard of any trouble. What a dumb bitch.

Second Ballston, also try the Courthouse area in Arlington. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g30242-d258820-Reviews-Hilton_Garden_Inn_Arlington_Courthouse_Plaza-Arlington_Virginia.htmlThis hotel is nice and within walking distance to both Courthouse & Clarendon. Rosslyn is good if you want to hang out in Georgetown. You can stagger home if necessary.

Driving back to Raleigh tonight was nuts! Trees flying across the road, and man the car sucked some gas fighting the wind.
