dominant has nothing to do with widespread public awareness

anybody that doesn't or hasn't wrestled competitively agree with this ^ just curiousI know this isn't the norm but it might give some merit to what fattony was saying. At my high school, there was not one good "athlete" on the wrestling team while the football and basketball teams were littered with the strongest, fastest, highest dexterity and quickest students.P.S. you're an idiot if you don't think money will draw the best athletesNot sure if this has anything to do with a particular level of dominance except that we could assume the wrasslin competition is weaker than money sports
1/29/2008 5:29:12 AM
it's wrestling, not wrassling. did you even compete in any sports?

the minute you said Bill Goldberg i knew you didn't have a clue.
1/29/2008 10:26:16 AM
ummm, not sure who said anything about bill Goldberg and I'm not going to go look because I'm lazy. You are reminding me of those cheerleaders or marching band nerds that say "cheerleading is a sport!" "marching band is just as hard as football"for the record: I wrestled. Granted, it was for one year. It doesn't mean I have to pretend that simple statistics doesn't exist.Less people attempt to wrestle, therefore the pool of talent is going to be smaller. The pool to draw talent from for football is much larger, better selection is inevitable. It's simple fucking math. This clearly isn't a knock on your homo-erotic sport.Tiger wins 3 this year.Go back to Iowa.[Edited on January 29, 2008 at 10:51 AM. It's all relative to who you're competing against. Being a great in a sport that does not attract the best athletes isn't the same as dominating a sport that does. I'm not saying there aren't athletes in wrestling or that this Sanderson guy wasn't a great athlete. I'm just saying the best of the best don't wrestling. They play football. What is wrong with you guys that you can't understand this simple concept. It's all about incentive. People go where the money is.I think we can all agree on this: If this Sanderson guy was a little faster, or a little stronger, or a little bigger he would have played football and made a good living at it.
1/29/2008 10:52:52 AM
^I don't think you can make that assumptionThough i agree that dominating wrestling is less impressive for those very same reasons. We can't actually say Sanderson himself isn't a better athlete than other athletes or that he couldn't succeed in the nfl, nba, mlb right now.[Edited on January 29, 2008 at 10:57 AM. Reason : a]

cael was an all state and all region football player in HS. He chose wrestling because he got a full ride to his dream wrestling college under the premier collegiate wrestling coach and had hopes of competing in the Olympics (which he did and one Gold)...something you cant do in football.is everything about money?i think people just dont have much of a perspective of big time wrestling in the south. its a bad region for wrestling. Iowa State pulls as many fans for big wrestling meets as we here at NC State average for attendance usually for men's basketball games. (theyve sold out their 14,000 seat arena many times for big matches and if i recall we average around 14,000 attendance, i could be wrong on that last number tho)and that is saying something considering we are usually top ~15-20 in attendance in Basketball[Edited on January 29, 2008 at 12:47 PM. Being all state in high school and then winning gold doesn't do anything to disprove what we're saying. It is a great story but it doesn't really say anything. But that's why I said he could make that assumption. It's feasible that the best "athlete' could be a wrestler....not likely. Yes, in America it is generally about money.
1/29/2008 12:50:15 PM
alright.... do we need to make another thread so that we can discuss TW's quest for the grand slam this year since this one has been hijacked Mohammed Atta style?
1/29/2008 12:53:05 PM
that's not a bad idea
1/29/2008 1:13:32 PM
I really hope he does win the grand slam. Regardless of whether or not he is the most dominant athlete in any sport, he is probably the most dominant golfer we will ever see. He has revolutionized the game and is almost single-handedly responsible for the popularity of golf today. I hope a grand slam quest will give a resurgence to the slipping ratings in golf the last couple of years.

^Stop. This isn't at all what this thread is about...I was on a winning golf state championship team in high school so I could argue my side on how golf took everything I had in preparation and commitment and how I played other sports for "fun" but that is not the issue. Wrestling is a sport, it involves a high quality athletes, Tiger Woods plays golf, he is also an athlete, he is the best golfer, but will he win the Grand Slam?[Edited on January 29, 2008 at 2:10 PM. i agree with you on all counts. honestly while i was gone doing things i thought about this whole deal and decided to leave it alone anyways.i have to be honest from what i've seen of Tiger in recent years i'd say no. to those who've been following closely, has he really shown that much promise in the last few months?btw, i apologize for any of the name calling, i was frustrated, that's my bad.[Edited on January 29, 2008 at 3:31 PM. im just quoting what they said on TV hahathey said 8/9 won this year

Its kind of annoying that people are talking about him winning the grand slam this earlier. Yes I know he has won all 4 tourneys this year that he has played in I think, and is having a fantastic year, but grand slam talk doesn't start till the first major is won, which he has yet to do. There is a big difference in winning regular season events, and winning a major. This talk shouldn't really even start unless he wins The Masters.
