No one ever said anything to that effect^^

I was pointing that out in case he forgot that little detail

Depending on how close you are to the mark, it may be time to actually count pocket cash earned under the table from friends and family, and other sources.

I'm waiting til this is finalized to do my taxes.

since income tax is progressive, why not make the rebate progressive

give the ones who contribute more income tax a bigger rebate.

and fuck that 75K cap, why should I subsidize the rest of America and get no refund?

Oh I know, it's because 300 dollars is a lot more to a poor person. Fuck you Marxist pigs.

but if the goal is to promote instant spending, giving black people money should be at the top of the list.

no one has been forced to do their job since 1865

didn't say they were worthless. show me where i did.

if you pay more in taxes because you make more, then you should get more back with whatever rebate they give out. a guy making 300,000 a year and paying over $100k in taxes versus someone who makes $10k paying about $1k in taxes. The guy who makes 300k gets nothing and the other gets $300? that's messed up right there

i'm not saying i don't appreciate or respect the people who don't make as much money, but everyone should be treated equally.

I think a lot of people forget that if it wasn't for people that make incomes less than $75,000 they would never be making over $75,000. So to really believe that those people don't deserve a little break is spitting in their faces

^it wasn't really directed at you, more directed at the whole belief that people with lower incomes don't deserve a little break every now and then.

^^ the guy making 300K gets nothing

^ the people making <75K often realize they would be at home on welfare if not for those of us making >75K, so don't fuck with the leadership

I donate a lot of money to charities because I believe in their cause. I don't do it solely for a tax deduction, but the reason the gov't lets you deduct it is to encourage people to donate in the first place.

If I pay >30k in taxes, a good proportion of that goes to helping the "less fortunate" on welfare. If they're getting an additional $300 for "economy boosting" purposes, then I want something in return, too. My spending doesn't help boost the economy?

joenumbers, remember that we already make enough money

the other argument is: the coorelation between high income and intelligence is high, and intelligent people save rather than spend, therefore why give high income individuals a refund when they are more likely to save and invest than spend it frivilously.

"Taxpayers would get checks under economic stimulus plan

* Deal would give taxpaying individuals $600, couples filing jointly $1,200, sources say
* Parents may get $300 more per child, sources say
* GOP will allow lesser rebates for people who don't pay income taxes, sources say
* Democrats won't push food stamp aid hike, extension of unemployment benefits

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- American taxpayers would get checks of several hundred dollars from the federal government under a plan to stimulate the economy, sources said Thursday.

Congressional leaders of both parties were talking with their membership to sell the plan, sources said.

Sources on Capitol Hill and at the Treasury Department said congressional and White House negotiators agreed upon checks of $600 per individual and $1,200 per couple who paid income tax and who filed jointly.

People who did not pay federal income taxes but who had earned income of more than $3,000 would get checks of $300 per individual or $600 per couple.

A Democratic aide and Republican aide said there will be an additional amount per child, which could be in the neighborhood of $300.

Those who earn up to $75,000 individually or up to $150,000 as a couple will be eligible for the payments, said Republican and Democratic sources familiar with the tentative deal.

Checks could be in taxpayers' mailboxes by June, according to an Associated Press report.

The agreement in principle includes a robust package of business incentives.

The Treasury Department still must analyze the numbers to determine the price tag of the stimulus package, sources said.

To get to the agreement, Democrats dropped calls for increases in food stamps and an extension of unemployment compensation. Republicans agreed to allow people who pay Social Security taxes but not income taxes to get the checks, sources said.

An announcement on the plan could come Thursday afternoon, the two sources said.

Aides in both parties said Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has been working aggressively in recent days as he tries to make progress before House Republicans head out of Washington for a legislative retreat at the end of the week.

The stimulus package may face resistance from fiscal conservatives in both parties over worries that it would increase the federal debt. The talks are occurring as auditors report that the federal deficit -- the difference between what the government takes in and what it spends -- is increasing.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated Wednesday the deficit would jump to $250 billion, mainly because of a weakening economy. That estimate does not include any additional spending that would be part of a stimulus package.

The proposal is intended to address economic worries stemming from a worldwide credit crunch created by the mortgage crisis and plunging stock markets. The president proposed the package last week. VideoWatch a debate on whether the U.S. is heading into a recession »

Officials in both parties credited Paulson, the former Goldman Sachs executive known for a shrewd grasp of the markets, with pushing the package aggressively.

"He's been on the phone with practically every member of Congress -- some of them a few times," one Senate Republican aide said. "He's not fooling around."

Hooray, by the context of this discussion I'm worthless! I didn't know that about myself before.

As a properly worthless member of society, this check will go straight toward writing off a little credit card debt. Fuck the economic stimulus, I'm improving my own damn situation, thank you very much.

the hilarious thing about this is that the money is going to the people who made money.

i know they are rebates and all, but it seems like the unemployed, or really poor people need the money more. and obviously that money would be spent immediately

half this money is gonna end up in savings accounts and other investments. maybe they're just trying to save the banks before the saudis own everything

just doesnt make sense that they're doing it to help the economy. i'd honestly rather not have the rebate since everyone isnt getting one and its gonna cost 150 billion bucks or whatever. but i guess i'll take it and feel guilty about it
