I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it.

I will add to the consensus that the main reason for going to the Angus Barn is the great service.
1/15/2008 9:18:17 AM
They all have excellent service, you should go to angus barn because your dad fucking wants to go there.

From what my dad tells me, Angus Barn was pioneer in the restaurant scene here as was their chef. So no Angus Barn, not other restaurants you guys are talking about.

Angus Barn, 42nd street oyster bar, and the Daryls chain were started by the same family. From my hazy memory at some point in the 90's? the family got out of 42nd street and daryls, and now only has limited dealings with angus barn. I know the food quality at 42nd street and angus both have gone down the shitter in the last decade, daryls i never really liked anyway. Angus is still worth frequenting for the atmosphere and service, food is ok. 1705 prime has my vote for best steak and service to date in raleigh. 1705, michael deans, stonewood, and some other joint are all owned by the same people as well. 1705>MDs>>>>stonewood.

been to angus barn once. wasn't too impressed, my steak wasn't all that flavorful.Went to the greensboro Ruth's Chris roughly 4-5 years ago. First time steak was probably the best thing I've ever had in my entire life. Second time it was poor. I'd go again for the chance of a recurring awesome dinner.

The Angus Barn is a big deal in Raleigh because its been here for a long time, and before the area exploded with a range of fine dining choices, it was the place. At its most basic, it is a steak and potato type restaurant that serves big portions of above-average quality food in a noisy-ass barn. Is it pricy for what you are getting? Sure, but so are most privately owned restaurants.Sullivans falls into the same category only I don't think it has been around as long.An is a really good fine dining restaurant that is still getting itself established. Its not the traditional steakhouse or french cuisine fine dining restaurant that everyone is used to. The sushi is extremely fresh and unique, the entrees are for the most part very good and original as well. If you go in and order the cheapest items on the menu then yeah, you'll be disappointed. Go get Pho at a mom and pop viet place. If you want a good experience, you gotta drop some $$. Second Empire is the shit. Whoever said their food is overpriced and not that good is a goddamn retard. For the presentation, quality and originality of their menu, this is probably one of the best restaurants in the triangle. Yes their food is expensive, its a four diamond restaurant with a very well established and well known chef. The Herons at the Umstead is the other four diamond restaurant that'd I'd lump together with Second Empire as the best in the area. A lot of people haven't eaten there, but their food is amazing. Yes its pricy, but christ, what do you expect when you eat at a place like this? There are other good fine dining restaurants around like Prime Only, Vin, etc. but for the most part you're going to find the same to hold true everywhere. Fine dining is expensive and the cheapest items on the menu usually aren't what you should be ordering.

Angus Barn is awesome, I don't know what's with all the negative press. Food is excellent, always cooked perfectly, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Take your dad there. I did and he loved it (my dad).

I've gotta say that everyone should at least try out a place before being scared away by other reviews. When I went to the Angus Barn, I enjoyed it. I don't think it was the best food I've ever had, but it was really good. There are a lot of places that on this topic to try though, I'm sure they all have their off nights.

I think it was Thad Eure Jr. and Charles Winston who also started Fat Daddy's on Glenwood. And a good point about Angus Barn compared to other steak restaurants, you get a good portion of food. Most steak restaurants kill you on the sides and salads.[Edited on January 15, 2008 at 3:41 PM. I had to go last night for a surprise party. I got the salmon since it was the cheapest thing on the menu. I've had better salmon pretty much everywhere. The only other time I went was for a company Christmas party where everything was free and my steak wasn't great. To me it seems like people know it is really expensive, so they think that makes it really good. They are just living off of the "it's the cool place to go image." I too agree the Peddler is better.
9/14/2014 1:10:04 PM
I like the food but the atmosphere is what I really like. Especially at Christmas. To me, that's what sets it apart from the other places.
9/14/2014 1:24:15 PM
^The Peddler is way better. They have good food and a nice atmosphere too. I will be perfectly happy to never go to Angus Barn again. The Christmas atmosphere was no different than any other place either. They had decorations hanging up. Good for them.

Big4Country have you had steak there before?
9/14/2014 6:31:03 PM
steak i had there wasn't as good as the one i had at Sullivan's
9/14/2014 7:04:04 PM
^^Yeah, when I went to the company Christmas party and it wasn't worth the price. Good thing I didn't have to pay for it. Last night the girl sitting next to me ordered a filet mignon that was about the size of a meatball, but over $30. Total rip off!^Agreed! Sullivan's is better. I would be willing to go back there.
9/14/2014 10:44:44 PM
I've enjoyed it the few times I've been. I always order the Prime Rib, and have never been disappointed by it. I would agree with the statements about how the atmosphere is a lot of what you go for rather than the food.Occasionally they'll have some good wild game for specials, though. That's a neat little touch.

I loved the burgers at Fat Daddy's when it was just the meat from Angus Barn....RIP Fat Daddy'sGone but not forgotten.
