See, I just don't see where you're getting this from by watching the commercials... Just because they deny people a Whopper, it doesn't mean that they are saying anything else on the menu is not good... To make a good ad campaign you need to get the most recognized and most often-ordered food on the menu. Obviously they cannot put every item on their menu into just a few commercials, so they can't see what happens if they go about denying people their orders item by item. If they decided to deny everyone chicken fries, they would not get as much of a reaction... NOT because their chicken fries are bad, but just because they are not as much a staple of the company as the Whopper is, and fewer people order them.

Yes, it is basically just a regular hamburger. It just happens to have a different name.

^^^well for one thing, they proudly show video of people saying things like 'The Whopper is the only reason I come here!' and 'Without the Whopper it's more like Bigger Queen'.

The 'idea' of the campaign is good....it's the execution that's poor.

I think you are failing to realize this is more of a commercial for the Whopper, than it is for Buger King as a whole.

So should have they made a commercial for the whopper and just mentioned a chicken sandwich or something?

There isn't even close to 100, let alone hundreds of things on their menu. Hell, there probably isn't even 30 individual things on their menu.

And I think the executed it perfectly. Like I said, its their flagship item. They were just attempting to show how popular it is by showing peoples reactions when it was taken away. And at the same time, it was a reminder to consumers about the Whopper.

This campaign has in now way failed. Out of all the commercials on TV right now, you are on here here talking about this ad, and the Whopper. Commercials are meant to bring attention to a company and its products. I seriously doubt the company lost sales because of this ad campaign.

Any reports come out that the whole thing was staged?

I don't know the big guy's reaction (Get me a WHOPPER) didn't seem typical.

Collect my paycheck because I'm a paid actor, not just some random customer they happened to be filming? Seriously, just because they filmed this as though it was a candid encounter doesn't make it so. Looks like it works to convey that idea though.

My biggest complaint about the commercial? You don't have a whopper? So what? A whopper is just a regular hamburger with the stuff stacked on in a different order, so I'll take that instead.

Its actually bigger than most fast food hamburgers, and has a different taste.

^They taste different than other fast food places, but the whopper patty = regular BK hamburger patty with a larger diameter.

So, no whopper? Ok, give me a regular hamburger with lettuce, onion, mayo, pickles, and tomato.

It's like walking into a Taco bell.
Give me a taco supreme.
Sorry, we don't have those any more.
Ok, give me a taco with some sour cream on it.

^^^^^I dunno. He seemed right on to me.

There's a tape of a woman calling 911 cause the staff refused to make her some southerwestern somethingrather. She's on the phone telling the operator to send out the police to force these people to make her this southwestern thing.

I think "Get me a WHOPPER!" is pretty accurate. And if you've worked more than a day in some sort of service position, you'd know that it is.

^^^Most Taco Bells won't make things not on the menu. I remember giving some poor kid hell one night because he wouldn't make me a cheesy gordita crunch because it wasn't on the menu, even though they still had all the necessary things to do it.

^i've done that very same thing countless times "im sorry its not on the menu" WTF.

but, the taco bell by my office is great, i remember i came through the drive thru and asked if it was on the menu and the guy said "nah, but we'll get you one" so i pulled around and he was like "hey man any time you want one just order it. we aren't supposed to make them anymore but they're good so we do anyway"

best news ever

Yeah I don't know why Taco Bell doesn't add the gordita crunch to their menu permanently.

Apparently not. I went to the Avent Ferry BK one time and the guy prefaced taking my order by saying they were out of "regular meat" and only had "Whopper meat". Luckily I was getting a Whopper, but it was just an odd thing to hear. I don't imagine it can be much different if at all, but there could be.

Regular meat = 4" diameter
Whopper meat = 6" diameter

Same meat, different patty size... unless they changed since I worked there all those years ago.

We're all out of regular meat means "we only have the larger patties."

I hope my life is never so focused on fast food that I "freak out" when a menu item disappears
