Isn't the cost of the enzyme to break down switch grass really expensive? I saw/read a projection that when this enzyme hit the 1$/gallon for production mark in 10/15 years, then using the cellulose in switchgrass would be a great option, but right now it's too expensive. I think I saw it on the History Channel.

corn is by far one of the most pointless sources of ethanol...the only reason it's used so often is the same reason the US uses corn syrup instead of real sugar - it keeps american farmers in businessswitchgrass is better, but still pretty inefficienti think the best source of ethanol right now is miscanthus, by almost double:http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/07/070710064827.htmhttp://www.greencarcongress.com/2007/07/study-miscanthu.html[Edited on January 15, 2008 at 4:51 PM. Here you go, this is an interesting read. Mass production of Ethanol using other organic materials in the works and could be viable as early as this year.http://www.dailytech.com/Cellulosic+Ethanol+Promises+1+per+Gallon+Fuel+From+Waste/article10320.htm

^ cool article...a plant pumping out 1% of the world's ethanol by 2011 would be pretty cool...makes me wonder if i should buy a diesel now or an ethanol car later

yeah, I got a kick about that. But it's still in the research steps right now. I'm sure in 5 years, it will be at least 2% Unless we can find a way to use children's laughter as a fuel source...
