I've been caught by those damn red-light cameras at Crossroads! When I took drivers ed, the teacher taught us that if you are at least touching the second arrow on the road when the light turns yellow, that it is safe to go on through the intersection.

i would think that decision would have more to do with what speed you are approaching the intersection than some predetermined distance as a rule

that's also why some yellow lights last longer than others depending on the speed limit of the specific road

You're right, I left that part out. That rule is assuming that you are approaching at the speed limit.

And that's assuming North Carolina drivers actually do that...

i hate where athens and jones franklin meet...i hate where crossroads blvd meets jones franklin(needs a light bad when its busy)...i hate pretty much all of crossroads...crabtree mall is pretty easy the way i go in at least...i use to work there, so i got that one down quick...i hate wake forest cause its so fucking narrow for 3 lanes each way...not a big fan of falls of nuese either...cant stand the lights on capital sometimes...especially after it splits and there are those very far seperated lights near the ac moore(ac moore on the left if you are going toward 540)...they always stay green the first half, and you almost want to start breaking cause u know they wont stay green forever...that perturbs the shit out of me, having a light let you go, then the next light like pretty much immediately turns red...how gay

no road is great during rush hour, but i HATE the glenwood ave/440 interchange in the evening rush. it seems like someone gets in an accident there every single day because they try to switch from one exit lane to another at the last minute. READ THE SIGNS.

and, not sure how many people are up this way, but i work off new bern ave near wake med. new bern ave & sunnybrook is horrible, esp turning right from sunnybrook onto new bern. there's only one right turn lane, but so many people use the left lane as a right turn lane that they might as well make it one. traffic gets so back up. accidents happen at that intersection all the time.

Cameron Village and the bloody timed traffic signals in it. 3am and you'll sit there forever and wait for the cycle to go through. I go through there at least 4 times a day between my place and campus and I get so bored I'll actually count how many flashes of the walk/don't-walk signs to figure out how long it will be before it cycles.

I can understand why it needs to be timed during the day to handle all the traffic through there, but after like 9pm it shouldn't matter.

Oh, and all the dumb asses who pull up past the solid white stopping line at intersections. Then they get pissed off when they sit there for a few cycles. Fool, that line is telling you that if you pull up too far past it you'll either get your car hit or cause the sensor in the pavement to not trip.

They've put one in there, it's not operational yet (as of yesterday) but the lights are mounted and ready to go.

Yep. I lived near there for 3 years and the light at the intersection of Smallwood and Daniels drove me CRAZY.

took the words right out of my mouth...I've lost count how many times I've run a red light through CV, I really hate sitting for a minute for absolutely no one.

the Glenwood - 440 interchange is so badly designed its embarrasing, I have a back way to get into Crabtree no problem though

Has anyone else noticed the Lead Mine - Glenwood intersection light sometimes only gives you a green for like 5-7 seconds no matter if there is a ton of traffic on the pavement sensors? bloody irritating.

The TenTen and 401 intersection.

Traffic backs up at this intersection in both directions at all times of the day because only a million people go through it on their way to Wake Tech. It annoys the hell out of me whenever I'm driving from my house off of Old Stage to Cary.

anyone know why the offramp light at jones franklin from 440 (coming the from cary direction) changes to all red for 20-30 seconds? I'm more curious than anything, I'll see all traffic stopped, no turn lights, no greens whatsoever, then it cycles through normally.

I really hate the people at the offramp from US1 south onto 64 west. Three lanes of no westbound traffic and people comin off the interstate sit at the light forever, and when some try, they don't know how to follow the turn lines. I know it's illegal cause its right on a red arrow, but I can negotiate traffic decently enough to know what lanes have to be clear and how to use the fucking gas pedal. Just pisses me off, though.

Alas, I work late and its only at night, but the southbound lane on athens (heading towards avent ferry) at the kaplan intersection absolutely will not change to green unless someone gets into the turn lane or comes to the intersection from the avent ferry side. I usually just slow down when I see it red, check the views, then blow through, but I can't do that when a dozen cars just sit there waiting for someone to trip the inductors.

The Light at Hillsborough/Blue Ridge/Beryl

You can sit at this fucking light for over 7 minutes, and thats if there is no train. If a train is coming through god help you.

I was coming north on Blue Ridge once, and I was going to make a right on Hillsborough, but of course a train came, so I decided to make a right onto Beryl. Oh wait! there is no right turn lane. I got stuck behind someone who was going straight for 11 FUCKING MINUTES

Another time trying to make a left turn from Beryl westbound onto Blue Ridge south bound. Go figure, another train. I sat at the stoplight for 9 minutes. No one was moving. the light could have let me turn left onto blue ridge because blue ridge traffic COULDNT FUCKING MOVE! but alas, it did not

I hate this intersection with extreme passion.

^^^^god i dont know how i forgot that one...i have to go that way to work...its fucking retarded....cause there is a left turn signal on the OTHER side of the train tracks(going toward western)...but by the time the lights on the side you are waiting on, turn green, the left onto beryl turns fucking yellow...man i hate that shit...i leave for work like 7 minutes early...if i catch the light in stride i get to work like 7 minutes early...if i catch it i get there on time...so gay...

I actually like the narrow lanes on wake forest rd, they make it fun. My car is tiny and most of the time people are too scared to stay in the middle lane so I can just cruise down the middle.

^you're that guy

millbrook rd
edwards mill rd
capital & 540
wake forest outer beltline exit
six forks rd inner beltline exit
strickland rd and falls of neuse rd
new hope church rd
downtown cary
all of apex
new area of cary by 54

tbh tho, if people did the posted speed limits, and used their turn signals more often, none of these places would be too bad...

It didn't used to be like that, only like the past six months or so for some reason.

There is some government department that you can contact about mistimed lights / intersections. Sometimes they actually look into it and things get changed. Anyone know their contact info?

I agree about mass transit being the way to go, in D.C.
I personally loath having to drive through a big intersection to get to the closest cstore/fast food/gstore.
