btw, any of you guys do work in NY this year?they're supposively being more steadfast in enforcing the "10 day rule" (that's not the real name, but what I call it...)if you work more than 10 8 hour business days in the state of new york over the course of the calendar year, you're required to file state income taxes for new york.. not sure how it works with your state of residence if it's business travel, but it sounds like it'd be a pain in the ass...i did 13 days, and am just not going to worry about it... but I know some of you were pretty far over that

supposively

Should hopefully come close to breaking even. Less my father-in-law screws me with another 1099 again. Then I'm fucked.

Has anyone ever gotten a refund from a state pension plan before? I worked for the state of Georgia for a little less than 2 years (quit this year), and each pay check they would take out a certain percentage for the employee retirement system (this was required and not voluntary). This money was taken out after taxes were already deducted, so tax was already taken care of there....I don't know if this counts as a retirement disbursement or something....do I have to declare this as extra income on my taxes? Also, they only gave me back a certain percentage of what I contributed....[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 2:34 PM. You should have put more in that 401k...
1/20/2008 2:50:40 PM
last year i paid 18,000 in taxes and owed $15 to the federal government. This coming tax season already have withheld about $24,000 out of 76k. If I owe anything else, I am gonna be really pissed
1/20/2008 2:51:42 PM
just got my massive $131 tax refund deposited into my bank account - 4 days after filing isnt bad at all...
1/20/2008 2:52:21 PM
Yea their turn around times are pretty goood.. They actually deposit your refund before even really checking the accuracy of your filing, there's been some people who have scammed the gov't because of this (submitting dead peoples tax returns, having refund go to prepaid debit card, etc)Anyways, I'm going to owe a solid $5K if not more...dammit.
1/20/2008 2:56:39 PM
Just to throw this out there, because nobody seems to understand it year after year.Going up a tax bracket does not mean you suddenly owe more overall.Tax brackets are tiered, so whatever money you make inside of a certain bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate. For example, the 2007 cap on the single filing 10% bracket is $7,825. Your taxes if you made exactly $7,825 would be $782.50. If you made $7,826 (just 1 dollar over, pushing you into the 15% bracket) your taxes do not suddenly change to a total of $1173.90. You pay the $782.50, plus the 15% tax on the extra dollar, so you pay $782.65.Hope this helps someone stress less about it.[Edited on January 20, 2008 at 3:24 PM. Reason : .]

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p2043.pdfThere is a link to the IRS refund cycle chart. I find it hard to believe that anyone got their direct deposit in 4 days. Are you sure you didnt do a refund anticipation loan?
1/20/2008 3:52:37 PM
01/22/2008 Deposit AUTOMATED CREDIT US TREASURY 220 TAX REFUND $131.00 yea im pretty sure, unless my bank is lying to me.

howaboutno - do you seriously think i am lying about $131? is it some big accomplishment to get $131 deposited into my bank account? i dont really care what the IRS document says, all i know is i see a deposit in my bank account. who gives a shit, its milk money, take your consipiracy theory BS somewhere else
1/20/2008 9:49:24 PM
Its just strange thats all. I dont see any deposits go into my bank account until they actually do, not two days in advance, unless the deposit is being held.

still waiting on my damn w2 to show up on my IPAY so I can file on turbo tax. Also I worked at damons this year and they went bankrupt. Where should my return go???????????
1/21/2008 9:17:06 PM
2200 total, 1950 federal and 250 state. I only worked for 4 months at my new full time job, so I dont know if I am getting a bigger refund because my shit isnt optimized or if it is because I am being taxed based on what they project my salary to be in a normal 12 month year, therefore putting part of my income every pay period into a tax bracket that I did not reach. Anyone know if that is how it works?

I am lazy and barely work however they have taken out 300 something in federal and 150 something in state. I am doing turbo tax when I get the forms and will use the deduction help from gas, school, etc to maybe get a little more. Still waiting on my damons form. I dont even know how much they took out in the 3 months I worked there... need this back before spring breaky.
1/22/2008 7:40:32 PM
I owe an assload
1/22/2008 10:34:47 PM
$1250
1/23/2008 9:32:24 PM
I'll owe around a thousand, exactly as planned.
1/23/2008 9:56:58 PM
looks like im gonna owe about 6000.
1/23/2008 11:16:38 PM
Do you end up owing once you make good money or what? I have always made less than 30K and always gotten money back. Just a question?
1/24/2008 12:03:35 AM
If you get a job making "good money" but they still tax you as if you were making less then you'll owe.
1/24/2008 10:21:45 AM
i haven't filed mine yet, but i should get a decent return since i bought a house and i can write off a ton of interest. we'll see as soon as i get my w2 from work... they're taking their sweet time.
1/24/2008 12:20:52 PM
I filled out my taxes and owe federal $141 (I get a $1 state refund, ha!) but I have a question:I donated a car to charity last year (it was a junker and was only worth around $350), but when I plug that into a tax form (taxslayer) as an itemized deduction, my refund doesnt change and I still owe $141. When I force taxslayer to itemize my deductions it says I owe $560. What is the point of donating something to charity of it doesnt even help me come tax time? am I doing something wrong?

1/24/2008 3:21:26 PM
what a sexcellent reply!
1/24/2008 3:26:52 PM
^^^your itemized dedutions have to add up to more than the standard for it to be of any benefit.
1/24/2008 3:43:18 PM
Well if you don't donate or write off more than the standard deduction, than those little things won't change your refund at all.^yeah, what he said too. [Edited on January 24, 2008 at 3:45 PM. Reason : .]
1/24/2008 3:44:42 PM
so youre telling me that I'm screwed since I dont have any other itemized deductions
1/24/2008 3:45:04 PM
Yeah, you might as well let someone use that car donation on their taxes if they can somehow.
1/24/2008 3:47:00 PM
I dunno if thats possible since my name was on the title
1/24/2008 3:52:42 PM

They also took out 151 with my state return. What should I do if I want thismoney before February 29th??? Also last year I did turbo tax and got it in like 2 weeks. Should I do that again?
