So, it's true a lot of these would make "alright" track cars. Stop for a moment and consider WHY there may be so many people driving e30s and Miatas on track. It's because they're cheap, reliable, easy to work on and out of the box, they do OK on track with just a few suspension bits.On top of that, I would like to add that a turbo 240 sx (or anything else extremely custom) would be a BAD idea for a track car, much less something dual purpose. What DO you want to do w/the car anyway?Ahmet

what's extremely custom about a turbo 240?

Well as you know, it was never offered here as a turbo, so it involves (admittedly simple) an engine swap/engine management, then it will need a larger brake system (I mean yeah you can just do calipers/rotors, but then you throw off brake balance +master cylinder/brake piston size), obviously stiffer suspension, etc. Leaving aside the fact that now you've got a car that makes more power than it did stock, while you're stuck with the same control arms, wheel bearings, bushings (limited in size if you do upgrade), axles, etc. In short, it's usually better to go with a car that was meant to do more of what you end up doing with it. for all intents and purposes, an sr swap or putting a turbo on the stock ka is a bolt on/in affair. it's also not very exspensive or time consuming considering the power gains. while it is a sizeable difference over stock, it's also not something that's going to grossly overpower the rest of the car's parts.like i mentioned before, i personally would go ahead and do the suspension, brakes, etc. first and then do a turbo in some form further down the road. i just don't see the downside of it being a dual purpose car if it's done right. also, financially it probably makes the most sense considering he already owns it.

i'd do the suspension/chassis firstthen if i wanted to, i'd turbo the KA or swap in an SR (or an LS1...there's at least one kit made to do it)then the brakesand while I know all about the bull in a china shop experience Ahmet is describing (my Miata suffered from it a little, although I can't seem to kick this urge to drop an LS1 into a 2nd gen Miata), I don't think a mildly/moderately turbo engined 240sx would suffer from it. That chassis was built with the hot SR engine--it just wasn't brought to America with it. In addition, it was pretty widely commented that it was a very good chassis hampered by a mediocre engine.

Suspension is a bit tricky. I don't know if you want to be fine tuning the drivetrain, and suspension of a car while also learning how to drive in an HPDE.Its like ahmet said, people don't suggest miata's and e30's because they are beasts and sexy, they suggest them because they have plentiful parts and are acceptable out of the box.

^ your mom's box is acceptable

miata, e30, integrai can say i kind of understand what you guys are saying, but tell me the "out of the box" difference between the 3 cars.and after putting aftermarket parts on them, its not so "boxy" anymore.

On the 360, I don't see a price listed? Also, are they street legal? Not that you could drive it w/that ridiculous splitter. That car looks like it's missing a couple of pieces, but sexy interior.Ahmet

Integra would be a great choice IMO out of the integra and mustang.personally a car that spends less time being worked on in the paddock because parts fell off on track would be better. You pay good money for track time not shop time [Edited on January 7, 2008 at 12:27 PM. Reason : .]
