me and a friend battled for weeks to see who could get the lowest time on the first track of the first level (SNES version). i can't recall what the exact time was but i think it was around 59 seconds or 1 min 2 secs. If you can get that low on that track, you have my respect.

SNES was hands down the best Mario Kart... you actually had to aim the red shells and could dodge them around corners if you were the potential target... It was also mush easier to strategically place green shells, bananas, and other such traps, especially in Battle Mode. And you had the Feather... strategically jumping over things was great. Also no auto-shields from triple-shell boxes, you only got single shells and if you wanted a shield you had to drag that shit behind your ass. Note also that Yoshi can outrun red shells at top speed (which doesn't take long to reach), and I destroyed my friends with that.
