so its $100,000i dont know.$100,000 Chevy? thats just asking for it.
1/7/2008 2:16:32 PM
When you consider all the superior vehicles you could get for 100k it really doesn't make a lot of sense unless you're a corvette guy. Hell, my uncle might buy one, he just bought a brand new 08 'vette to go with his fully restored 66 vette. I can't fathom it, if you're going to drop Aston or Porsche money why not get an Aston or a Porsche? If you list the 100k sports cars the name, "Chevrolet Corvette" just sticks out like a sore thumb. Maybe it's because I don't particularly drool over American muscle but... meh.[Edited on January 7, 2008 at 2:27 PM. Reason : asdf]
1/7/2008 2:20:31 PM
Because on the track the vette will win...but in the mall parking lot the aston will.(womens like the crystal start button)
1/7/2008 2:41:08 PM
Yeah, that's true, but since almost no one actually takes their car on the track or even comes close to pushing it to its limits why would you want to buy a car with a pontiac steering wheel and little fiddly plastic bits on the inside an out. An Aston is actually well made, attractive, and offers you an enjoyable cabin. Corvettes, even the top end ones, just seem cheaply made and suffer from the fact that they are tied to GM.
1/7/2008 2:44:05 PM
yeah i dont see people buying this car just for parking lot pimping.
1/7/2008 2:57:22 PM
Nah, I think this car is going to be primarily for 'vette heads (like my uncle) and for people who are having a serious midlife crisis.I'm just saying, if I had 100k to spend on a car it wouldn't be this one because I don't think it's a car you could live with every day. Obviously your Aston probably won't be a daily driver either, but I bet it's easier to live with.
1/7/2008 3:06:06 PM
well we all have different tastes.i would much rather build a vette if i had to.its a nice looking car.but with the new Z06, its going to be hard to compete. its a second faster but $30K more.
1/7/2008 3:10:09 PM
for that much more money... a supercharger, turbo kit and some big ass r compounds with some suspension mods on a z06 could be had easily and probably keep up/take out the new zr1.Now... that viper on the other hand... it'll be hard to beat mcclaren's suspension but FI could still be added to it.
1/7/2008 3:52:47 PM
wait, you think anything from the link from 2006 about the 2008 viper (which is now on the streets) is new?
1/7/2008 4:00:14 PM
haha i didn't read it i was searching for the new f1 car mclaren released.
1/7/2008 4:01:22 PM
Track guys with money would buy a car like this.I'm pretty sure they'll sell every model they make.
1/7/2008 4:06:20 PM
1/7/2008 7:19:21 PM
you read my explanation i still haven't seen their new f1 car.
1/7/2008 8:09:22 PM
look in the f1 2008 thread. I posted and linked to pictures of the MP4-23.

rides like crap on the street, thing of beauty on a track.[Edited on January 7, 2008 at 11:49 PM. Reason : track queen.]
1/7/2008 11:49:01 PM
I like Corvettes, I think they're good looking, good performing cars (in this case, great performing), but I'd never buy one given all the other available options. I certainly wouldn't buy one for 100 grand.[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 1:24 AM. Reason : asdf]
1/8/2008 1:15:26 AM
you're definitely entitled to your opinion as to what you personally would buy... saying there are better performing cars for 100k is just silly though. what are "all" these other options? the only thing i can come up with is the viper, and like i said even it won't be much of an issue for the zr1. it's more comparable to the z06.
1/8/2008 1:30:49 AM
I'd be hard pressed not to throw a little money at a Z06, 911 Turbo, R8, etc if I happened to be in the market for such a car...but it is pretty badass (although I wish they'd gone more in the roading C6-R direction, too)
1/8/2008 1:34:38 AM
I'd rather have an Audi R8 (run you about 110k), a V8 Vantage (about 115), a 911 Turbo or GT3 (105-120), maybe a BMW M6 (about 105), and even though I don't particularly care for Mercedes there are a couple of their coupes that I'd probably prefer to a 'vette if you simply lined them all up in front of me and said, "Ok, which one would you have?"And I never said that there were a lot of cars that outperformed the vette by the numbers, I simply said that there are better options available for the price (obviously this is all very opinionated). IMO there is a lot more to a car than simply the 0-60 time or how many Gs it pulls on the skidpad.I will be very interested to see how the zr1 actually performs when they put it out there, how much it actually costs, etc.[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 2:08 AM. Reason : adsf]
1/8/2008 2:06:22 AM
the ZR-1 would monkeystomp the shit out of all of those, though.but yeah, if I wanted and could afford something with that level of performance, I think there's good chance it would be some sort of modified German machine.
1/8/2008 2:14:53 AM
Performance alone, absolutely (well, at least based on the few numbers floating around right now prior to seeing any real independent tests), but all things considered... I just don't know that I'd want a corvette. I have a sneaking suspicion that the only way to put out a car with 620 bhp for 100k is to seriously skimp elsewhere, but I may just be a bit of a wet blanket.
1/8/2008 2:19:03 AM
making that much power isn't that tough or expensive, in and of itself.but yeah, obviously there was some give and take in that car...it's not a Lamborghini.
1/8/2008 2:39:05 AM
1/8/2008 6:20:09 PM
^^^^^You see, the thing is, a Z06 for $70k will stomp those cars into the dirt performance-wise as well. Z06s with good drivers can crack into the 10s stock, so one has to wonder are high 9s (at least on slicks) out of the question for a new stock ZR1."Rides like crap". Maybe you should do yourself a favor and READ an article on the new ZR1 and its magnetic active suspension system. The corvette is a sports car, and performance wise you can't touch it. If you want more refined, more luxurious, more wow factor then yes of course you can beat it. I'm not even saying that given $100k I'd buy it (probably wouldn't) but what I'm saying is that the reasons people are listing are idiotic.
1/8/2008 10:42:34 PM
^also, who gives a shit if a sports car rides hard
1/8/2008 10:53:50 PM
says the guy who drive a lancer with a tooth rattling suspension no but seriously i think i like cars with a "shitty ride"
1/8/2008 11:30:59 PM
So is it still leaf sprung?
1/8/2008 11:37:45 PM
^^ evo ride quality is notably compliant, considering its handling capability. my S2000 rode harder (and my Miata with Tokico springs and KYB AGX shocks rode a LOT harder).but regardless, there's no reason to buy any one of those cars or any variant of the corvette if you give a flying fuck about ride quality.

1/9/2008 1:42:15 AM
yeah, 10.90s from the z06 are incredible.it's so awesome that i'm not quite sure what the point is in the ZR-1...save the money, save the weight, and build, blow, or spray the Z06 if it isn't fast enough for you.[Edited on January 9, 2008 at 1:47 AM. Reason : not to hate on the ZR1...it's badass and i'm impressed that they built it]
1/9/2008 1:46:56 AM
well, it should be noted that you're not going to click off consistent 10.9x's at any track in the country with one. this was at mir, which is known for its excellent track prep as well as good da numbers. as far as i know, no one else has done it at any other track (or at least been able to back it up with a time slip, etc.) it is, however, a solid 10 second car anywhere on drag radials and nothing else. 11.0x-11.2x should be consistently doable on the run flats.i also agree about the point of the zr1. practically speaking, i too would just buy the 30k cheaper z06 and throw a little money at it. i don't really see why there is the need for 3 models on something that already sees limited sales, but i'm certainly not complaining and it's still a hell of a bargain comparatively speaking.[Edited on January 9, 2008 at 1:58 AM. Ivan you going to be upset when the lil cart gets done I wanna race the Vette. This is a pic of the chassis there will be no front faring tho and it is yellow
1/9/2008 2:00:03 AM
man, you better let me get in on the kart. you know i've been wanting to build one.i'll just hang a left/right at the start, won't be much of a race then.
1/9/2008 2:02:33 AM
hahah yes it will be wild i am sure! im going to run that yz125 motor and it is boared out .10 it should pull 125mph in like 7 secs. that is what they are gettin with stock 125;s
1/9/2008 2:13:05 AM
oh, that'll be perfect.a sportbike engine is neat, but it's kinda too much (and a lot heavier, i'm sure).
1/9/2008 2:22:56 AM
yea.when they use the fullon inline sport bike motors thay have to have alot more frame and all. With the 125 OR 250s 2 stroke they will rip and there alot better high rpms and all with out doing anything to the frame/chassis. a inline 600 would be sick but there lil to much i think 125 3 inchs off the ground is fine with me hahaha
1/9/2008 2:28:02 AM
IVAN I LOVE YOU BUT UR GOING TO GET BEAT! http://youtube.com/watch?v=Sjpqib4lMYg
1/9/2008 2:34:26 AM
you gotta get by first. i've been known to do some erratic steering at times. that vid is a trip.
1/9/2008 2:55:49 AM
LMAO out loud you sick fuck!!! i should have it all togather in the next month or so. be a wild time tho im going to get lil light on it and raise hell
1/9/2008 2:57:43 AM
1/9/2008 6:38:49 AM
definitely close to a z06 in some areas, but it's still not going to be much competition for the zr1. it is 30k cheaper though.
1/9/2008 12:13:40 PM
^^^ you all moved in and shit?I just got back to raleigh...and got a suprise in the gay-rage
1/9/2008 12:24:54 PM
1/9/2008 2:21:01 PM
^dont forget the well crafted honda sir.
1/9/2008 2:22:37 PM
'bout as well crafted as a chebby I reckon. The NSX may be a lil better. So yes sir...
1/9/2008 2:52:16 PM
