Im sorry if my reaction seems strong, but this fucking violates every single principle i believe in in my line of work. Wax NEVER has any place whatsoever in food."

It's not like we're even using a candle's worth of the stuff, and it's approved as non-toxic and edible.

You have an opinion, okay, but there's absolutely nothing physically damaging to using a little in the chocolate.

[Edited on December 21, 2007 at 1:34 AM. Reason : and hell, for as little as we use, it doesn't change the taste for such a thin coating]

yeah, I'm sorry we can't all be as uptight about every little detail

it's not harmful, whatever you want to claim otherwise

[Edited on December 21, 2007 at 1:37 AM. Reason : perhaps your palate is far too refined for the likes of my food]

Uptight about travesties involving someones passion, huh?

Then i suppose its a good thing we arent talking about literature....

Because being hypocritical would suck...

believe it or not, people can be uptight about one thing and not another

it's not hypocrisy at all

be as uptight about your food passion as you like, that doesn't mean you need to throw a fucking fit over what I felt like adding to my food

I'll still add it: it works well and looks nice, and hasn't made anyone sick

[Edited on December 21, 2007 at 1:43 AM. Reason : do you hate it when people put ketchup on their eggs, too?]

Dear mods,

The program evan has grown beyond your control. He will soon spread through the FF as he will spread through the TWW. You cannot stop him but I can.

I never said it was toxic. I know its safe. Nestley and Hershey both add copious amounts of wax to their chocolate. Because of that, their chocolate fucking tastes like wax. It melts horribly, has terrible texture and tastes like a goddamn candle. There are plenty of alternatives that taste better, give better, smoother texture, and give the same shine that you get so wet over. Such as, oh...natural food items that have a place in confectionary work. ie: Butter and corn syrup

Adding wax to chocolate and saying it doesn't make a difference is like saying McDs makes a good hamburger. It might be true for you because you have killed every single taste bud you ever hoped to have, but that doesn't mean you should torture other people with it.

MetalRed is 100% right

not just chocolate
cheese
soy sauce

etc.

the american way appears to have been largely the complete opposite of the whole foods movement

america has been all about "ends justify the means" and clearly they do not

I, for one, love it when my fruit juice is brown or gray, and not dyed to look the color of the fruit's skin

natural food ftw

to all of you if you honestly think that the chocolate used to melt over these things is completely "natural" to begin with

I mean what do you think I do, import Belgian chocolate? I'm not a fucking millionaire, so I'm sorry I can't live up to your natural taste standards.

Haul your ass to Aldi. They have good cheap chocolate. After eating that, cadbury stuff is painful and hard to choke down.

Cadbury stuff is disgusting anyway...even the stuff that's actually imported and not licensed.

Hard Candy and caramels.

As long as you have a good thermometer and aren't an idiot, they are pretty easy to make. I found a cool recipe for a cinnamon hard candy using red hots, but until I make it I'm not posting it, just in case it sucks.

Tempering chocoalte would only give it a shine if it was set on a nonporous/nonabsorbent surface, like or acetate, a plastic mold, or maybe wax paper. If its just used for dipping, it'll set with a matte finish.

I failed at dipping truffles this weekend. The first couple were all nice and pretty and they got progressively uglier.
