Agreed. They throw the lighter fluid on the media-circus fire. Admittedly, I still watch it...

It sucks (Louisville...seriously??)...but at the same time, they are really scratching for news stories. I bet they are thanking God for the Favre shit.

If I were ESPN, I would just shorten the show times during the offseasons. Make the shows 45 or 30 minutes and just show baseball highlights and the occasional football practice report.

you forget the extra enjoyment of ATH being pre-empted for NFL Live, THEN the leadoff topic the next day is "So what do you think of yesterday's non-event in the NFL? Mariotti?"

if there's nothing interesting going on in the world of sports and there isn't a game on, why exactly are you watching espn?

quit bitching and change the channel

^yeah.

they have enough sports stories to fill up SportsCenter during July, so they do something like this every year. It's no more annoying than seeing the same highlights of a game 3 times during a show. If that starts happening then I just turn it off.

they need less fake news stories and more highlights. that's all.

even on a day when there were a million games, they show one highlight per and then have a stupid fantasy bracket.

it pisses me off that you can watch an entire 1.5 hours of sportscenter and not see all the actual sports highlights or hear sports news.

like they will devote 20 minutes to some kid with make a wish or with some contrived fan voting bracket bullshit or brett favre, then in the last 5 seconds as they are ending they show they'll say "oh yeah and gilbert arenas signed a new deal with the wizards. k see ya!"

Considering baseball is the #1 attendance sport in the country I would say they don't.

shit i go to durham bulls games all the time. who doesn't like drinking beer and watching baseball in person? the MLB season is just way too long for me to care about, and watching baseball on tv is boring. i'm sure the attendance numbers are helped due to the fact that there are 393923802823 regular season games

The fact that the attendance is that high for 81 games shows that people care.

Is that because every team plays 162 games a year or because of the percentages?? Because I see a lot of games with A LOT of empty seats.

NFL avg attendance: 68,000
College Football: ~50,000
MLB avg attendance: 33,000

but they play a ton of games so it adds up which is where they claim #1. and although i cant stand to watch baseball (have fun playing though)

16 games isn't that hard to sell out....I mean even the Raiders draw good numbers. The NFL and MLB attendance is not comparable.

[Edited on July 14, 2008 at 11:05 AM. Reason : baseball is still America's pastime to me]

Not sure if anyone saw this yesterday, but ESPN replayed Mickey Mantle's 500th home run, which he hit to RF at Yankee Stadium. I'd say at least 50% of the stands were empty...wtf?

the yankees were a pretty bad team back then. Something like 70-89 that year. mantle wasn't the same player anymore, maris was there but not anything near what he was a few years before.

6 hours of live sportscenter from 9 AM-3 PM? Well, if only ESPN had a sports news station to cover events throughout the day, with a simple name, like ESPN News.

By the way, what's the point of having this, plus First Take, or whatever that garbage is on ESPN2?

I actually watch some of those shows, mike and mike in the morning, first take, OTl or college football live or NFL live or whatever if I'm not working in the morning. They're not bad, and some of the other ones are alright although it gets old when they all talk about the same thing. I just don't really like sportscenter as much and some of the stupid shit they try to do.

MTV has nothing to do with music most of the time though. At least ESPN is still talking about athletes or sports usually.

Ok ESPN leave the politics to the news networks. I don't give a shit who Obama idolized as a kid, if you're going to do this you need to give McCain his fair share. I swear the media in this country is force feeding Obama to everybody. Cover sports not politics, Obama is not a former pro athlete nor was he a division 1 athlete.

I don't know but Lou Holtz gets paid to spit and barely speak where people can understand him.

If he doesn't soon get Notre Dame's dick out of his mouth the man is going to die.
