I think its hyppocritical how the house stacks the odds in their favor, but when someone who understands game theory or can count cards can consistently beat the house, they are banned from the casino.

^ It's kinda like our tax system. If you're a high acheiver, they're gonna take more of your "winnings" away. After all, you didn't work hard for that money...you sorta won it in life's lottery...right?

I've seen many many many people ruined by gambling so its not hard to see why its wrong. If you can control it you are ok but alot of people go way overboard and get addicted to it. It then consumes their lives much like drugs until they become sorry human beings.

^ I could say the same thing about smoking or eating fast food, but that doesn't mean those things should be illegal or are innately wrong.

smoking and fast food dont cause people to kill each other or turn the hearts of people black. There be a big difference
12/17/2007 11:06:40 PM
That's not a bad point. But, by that logic, why would people be against a lottery on the basis that its gambling?A lottery doesn't really encourage the loanshark business like you are alleging real gambling to do.
12/17/2007 11:10:39 PM
The lottery can become addicting and instead of people buying food for their families or things they need to survive they will buy lottery tickets. I know I've seen it happen. Some people can't control themselves and ruin their lives on it.
12/17/2007 11:16:05 PM
That may happen, but it has to be extremely rare. Certainly not as prevalent as gambling addiction.
12/17/2007 11:18:29 PM
You'd be suprised.

Darwin says these people don't deserve to live.Maybe social services will step in since it is obvious these folks are not capable of support their children.
