She should drop the issue and take a deep breath:

the county should reassess the tax value at $50,000 an acre and tax her to death.

^They should have reassessed it when she purchased it for the amount she bought it for (market value). At the very least, she should be getting taxed on that. Property taxes on $12.5K isn't much, but at least she has to pay them every year.

If she tries to drain that shit she'll end up in prison via the EPA's Clean Water Act. People have been sentenced to multiple-year prison terms and six-figure fines for draining ponds and other wetlands without approval.

^^wtf makes you think she will try to drain it herself?? that is the whole point of threatening the lawsuit: to make the state drain it

If she does own it....and someone was to jump in and drown....the family of that person could sue her for millions. For that reason alone if I owned it I would want it drained if I owned it and couldn't sell it.

^ then at best she should do it herself. I don't see how the state is obligated to do anything here if it's private property.

For her it was pretty obvious, considering the property is underwater. However, let this serve as a lesson to check if there are any easements (public or private) and you are comfortable with them before you purchase any property.

Also, if she bought the land "as is", as in she knew it was flooded, doesn't that preclude her request to the state?

I bet there are a bunch of skeletons in there that she could sell for cash $$$ if they ever drain it.

Hang on, hang on!

...Just how many "Lake Lynn" lakes does NC have? There's another one of these little bitches right outside of Concord.
