I have. I got my first one since Jan 05 last month, and because it didn't resemble a period at all, I freaked out. It's quite nice

true but some birth control are really pickythats the reason why i cant be on the pill because theres only one thats available for people with high blood pressure, and you HAVE to take it at the same hour every day or it will not be effectivetheres no way id remember to take it at the same hour every day because i barely remember to take my blood pressure meds daily, i just have a bad memory when it comes to that kind of thing

4^ I got mine Aug. 06 and have not had a period since. <3
12/8/2007 2:11:13 AM
^2 I'm really good at forgetting to take it at the same time everyday too. And a lot of those tricks don't work for me. I think the biggest problem is that me and my boyfriend live in two different places, so I have to remember to take it to his house, and back to my house, etc. I could easily remember to take it if I could put it by my toothbrush and take it in the am. If I did that now, I would inevitablly leave it at there when I went to his house. BUT we are moving in together this weekend... so that should fix that. However, I am smart enough to know that not taking it at the same time decreases the effectiveness, and so we AlWAYS, ALWAYS use condoms. I insist on it. I certainly don't want a kid right now.

keep some theresome at homethats what I used to dowell... not me, but you know

Almost 10% of women have Mirena removed within the first 6 months. More deal with it, but won't get a new one when the old one is removed. Most docs won't tell you this unless you ask. If you've had problems with any other hormonal birth control methods, then obviously your chances of problems are higher. I've tried about every pill and had bad side effects from them all, so I waited until I was having surgery anyway (to look for endo) and had my tubes tied at the same time (I was 24, and would suggest Dr. Hardison at Chapel Hill ob/gyn to anyone interested). Might not be as easy for someone else to have done (I have a long family history of serious health problems and a few myself) but if you are going to be opened up anyway and don't want kids I would highly suggest it.

My aunt has one and loves it, so does another lady at work. However they have both had kids.I have thought seriously about it, but I have huge issues with hormones. I have finally found a pill with a different kind that doesn't make me continuously throw up or nauseated. I don't want to put this thing in and then find out the hormones in it are going to cause a problem. Still thinking about it though... the 5 year time frame is just about perfect for me.

I'm considering getting the Mirena IUDI'm having my first baby any day now (was due on the 6th) and haven't seriously discussed BC with the doctor yet. I was on the nuvaring for 2 yrs and liked it that is until I got pregnant on it... so I don't think I'll use it again. I hated BC pillsWe want more kids but want to wait at least 3 years. My only concern is I've heard of a few people getting an IUD and the string not being long enough and they couldn't remove it.[Edited on December 8, 2007 at 12:57 PM. Reason : d]
12/8/2007 12:56:46 PM
^^ I tried that, and found that it worked better then nothing, but I'm one of those people with the tendacy to leave their cell phone in the other room, their car, on vibrate, etc. I do keep them in my purse, cause that's the only way I always have them. I think once me and P move in together I'll keep them by the toothbrush .though.

Are sponges, vaginal contraceptive films/gels, diaphragms, cervical cap, and all that good stuff just completely out these days?My husband and I used the vaginal contraceptive film for months before we started trying for a baby.
12/8/2007 1:30:10 PM
^ i dont know anyone using those methodsall my friends are either on pills or shots
12/8/2007 1:54:31 PM
My husband and I also use the spermacidal film and foam, but it really irritates me, so he doesn't get it as much as he wants to :-p

^ thanksIt's frustrating being overdue she's stubborn already
12/8/2007 7:13:11 PM
I was a month overdue, but that was back in the early 80s when they said the baby will come when he's ready or some shit like that.Yea we beat condoms and the patch and a friend beat the patch too (though his wife was kinda heavy and she was putting it like on her outer thigh and shit, which my wife said was a big no-no; she kept alternating her's below her stomach, alternating sides). So far 10 months into Mirena and no problems whatsoever. You might want to seriously consider it XC. Its basically just put it up there and forget it. Every once in a while when we are being intimate I "check" it to make sure it still feels like its in the right place, but I'm pretty sure I've only ever felt the strings before, and thats a once in a while deal. So much easier, and cheaper, to deal with than pills, patches, rings, foam, condoms, etc. etc. etc.

then cross your fingers that they'll induce me wednesday ^ i don't want to wait until 42 weeks which is what they want to do if there's no medical concerns.I understand due dates are just a guess and it's hard since I got pregnant on BC but they think she's close to 8 lbs now... i don't want to deliver a monster sized baby. I've run out of patience, cleaned the house from top to bottom, organized everything, can't walk without shooting pain, have back pain that is unbearable, and am driving my husband and mother-in-law nuts. not to mention sick of a million phone calls daily "is the baby here?".../rant
12/10/2007 11:55:14 AM
Girl, you've got all the signs of someone who should be going into labor at ANY MOMENT. I would be doing everything humanly possible to start labor: walking, sex, spicy food, and a bunch of illogical crap that I know couldn't possibly work.I have 4 weeks to go and I'm already miserable. The thought of going 5 or 6 more weeks makes me feel just a little crazy.
12/10/2007 12:00:46 PM
haha i've tried everythingsex (although who wants that when they're 40 weeks)pineapple & pineapple juicebasil & oregano on everything!eggplant parmwalking (can't now because it hurts)raspberry teaprenatal massage, pressed the baby release button (brother in law is a massage therapist)more acupressure spicy food only thing I haven't tried is the castor oil. no thank you.I've been dilated and effaced (80%+) for weeks and have contractions all day but they don't get intense enough or close enough for a significant amount of time to get excited.
12/10/2007 12:09:06 PM
I don't care how many women have claimed that caster oil or enemas worked for them, that just seems like it would make for a bad situation whether it worked or not.I think that I would be trying to get that kid out with a plunger and a bucket, if I were you. I've hated being pregnant so much that I've (ashamedly) been praying for this kid to show his face ASAP, even though he's about a little over a week shy of the magical 37 weeks. You should make a list of all the reasons that you should be induced Wednesday instead of waiting an extra week and present it to the doctor.
12/10/2007 12:23:39 PM
my kid was 2 weeks late. the momma was not happy.
12/10/2007 2:01:53 PM
got an IUD this afternoon and it was amazingly painful. Hurt very very very bad
2/19/2008 11:17:25 PM
I was very seriously considering it over the last month because the previous month the Nuvaring decided it was going to freak out and cause breakthrough bleeding despite my being on it for over a year. I was looking into Paragard, because I would prefer a non-hormonal one if I do decide to get one. Anyone had that one? Pretty much everyone I know who's had one got Mirena.
2/19/2008 11:20:50 PM
I'm getting an IUD tomorrow morning at my 6 week check up. I wish I hadn't read ^^ But I guess it's way better than another 9 months of pregnancy.[Edited on February 19, 2008 at 11:51 PM. Reason : how bad could it be after having a kid?]

I have heard women say the pain was worse than giving birth...[Edited on February 20, 2008 at 12:07 AM. Reason : if you have the go-ahead, be taking ibuprofen every 4hrs starting now]
2/20/2008 12:06:06 AM
i took 4 advil and a diladid before i went and still felt like somone was aimlesslly playing with a staple gun inside my vaginaHOWEVER, my doc mentioned that it is far more painful for women who haven't had children because their cervix is much tighter. Lucky me. bottom, my girlfriend got hers done at her 6 week checkup and said she didn't even notice they were done so i woudlnt's sweat it

I had my IUD put in this morning and it was really a piece of cake. I felt it go in, but it barely registered on the pain scale. I was worried that it would hurt since my delivery wasn't vaginal, but I was pleasantly surprised. And it better be as baby proof as they claim that it is because I have my hands full with just one special needs kid. I could not imagine having another child running around at the moment.I hope that I fall into that 40% whose periods stop because I was use to suppressing my cycle with birth control pills.[Edited on February 20, 2008 at 5:14 PM. ^ yea yea, but i think i meant more specifically in the sexual reproductive department. i could take a finger up my butt and a cotton swap up my pee any day. as opposed to blood, cramps, hormones, bc, iuds, things the size of watermelons ripping through my vagina, and all the complications that come with all those things, etc etc etc. men win on not having periods (or any period drama)i just meant as far as thisss topic goes[Edited on February 21, 2008 at 1:28 AM. ok, fair enough.(although getting your bore punched isn't really a good time, for the record)
2/21/2008 1:35:50 AM
so, ever sense i have had this thing put in i have had lower back pain type cramps every day. And its getting really annoying, aside from painful. Anyone else had this problem?
3/3/2008 8:52:19 PM
what is IUD?
3/3/2008 10:19:07 PM
you're a virgin, hush hush
3/3/2008 10:20:10 PM
Jen, I had mine inserted right after you did.My pain has all been 'in the front' instead of the back. Along with these menstrual-like cramps, I have also had light and unpredictable bleeding. My doctor told me to expect it for about a month or two after having the IUD inserted.
3/3/2008 10:43:52 PM
i haven't had any of the bleeding problems, at least not after the first few days. But these lower back cramps just wont fuckin quit and they say its normal but its just plain aggervating. Its not that painful its just consistant
3/4/2008 2:36:36 AM
Had Madison almost 12 weeks ago. Still going back and forth between the IUD and Nuvaring. My husband and I agree that we want to wait at least 3-4 years. I have insurance (BCBS) but I know it won't cover all of it (the IUD.) I need to find out how much it would cost me. Now I'm kinda of worried about the pain but I can't imagine it's as bad as pushing out a 9.7 lb baby... and the cramps and back pain? My back hurts enough as it is. I need to make a decision soon.
3/4/2008 7:58:29 AM
We didn't pay shit for her getting Mirena. We had prepaid like $40 a visit and I guess we had overpaid. She never even had an office copay that visit. But then you have to figure in that you don't have to pay for shit for another two years instead of that monthly or every couple month bill for the patch/nuva.My wife still has a period sometimes. Lucky me, right before I leave for a conference and she has had one since Sat. But its not as bad as it used to be, and sometimes she skips altogether. She does not have any back or front pain from it. She may have had some initially, but I don't know how much was everything getting back to normal after the baby and how much was the IUD. And she said after 2 babies, it was nothing to get it put in. Bottombaby apparently agreed above. Jen is the only one that had problems, and she has not had any babies herself. So you should be just fine.We blew through the Patch and condoms, and Charlie is a year old this month and still no #3 yet! So far I am a fan.[Edited on March 4, 2008 at 10:07 AM. Reason : ]

yeah, only complications i have heard of are from women who dont already have kids
3/4/2008 12:58:40 PM
Mirena's website states that it pays for itself if you keep the IUD longer than one year. After our son was born with complete DiGeorge syndrome, my husband and I wanted to ensure that we would not get pregnant again until after our life normalizes and we know for certain that another pregnancy will not result in the same condition. Our doctor told us that an IUD was our best option because it has the lowest failure rate and it can be removed if we want to have another baby or a new one inserted at the end of 5 years. If you've been pregnant and had a baby, the IUD is a snap. The cramping and bleeding that you can have in the weeks after it being inserted, is absolutely nothing compared to what you have following a baby. And insertion is easy (even if you had a C-section like I did, apparently).
3/4/2008 1:57:49 PM
sometimes sooner I did the math. If I keep Mirena for 5 years, my monthly BC cost is $0.33.
