to sum up my responseC.R.E.A.M(however i support a playoff system but logically see why it will not be feasible for many years)dos[Edited on December 2, 2007 at 1:14 AM. Reason : b]

from another thread:
12/2/2007 1:10:12 AM
having every conference champion in the playoff is ludicrouseven the 1-aa playoffs don't do that
12/2/2007 1:10:48 AM
really? >.<Then why are the conferences in the league?
12/2/2007 1:12:44 AM
they can get in with an at-large bid
12/2/2007 1:14:12 AM
^^^^ cleared that up with my edit
12/2/2007 1:14:43 AM
i'd support the 8 champion + 8 at-large playoff as welli just want a goddamn playoff.
12/2/2007 1:18:08 AM
even an at-large system, though, makes those conferences meaningless. Especially since people will be arguing that "Georgia should be given preference to a MAC Champ"
12/2/2007 1:24:28 AM
yeah but that'd still be light years ahead of where we're at now. either playoff suggestion would be 10 times better than now.a team playing for the championship simply b/c they don't play the last month of the season? fuck that.
12/2/2007 1:39:01 AM
^^well they should
12/2/2007 1:42:00 AM
then, like I said, why don't we kick the shitty conferences back down to I-AA?
12/2/2007 2:28:09 AM
your guess is as good as mine
12/2/2007 3:03:19 AM
What I mean to say is that if you think those conferences aren't good enough, would you advocate that they be moved down?
12/2/2007 3:11:50 AM
at the least call it what the fuck it isbowl computer seriesbowl communist seriesetcbowl "championship" series it sure as hell aint
12/2/2007 4:58:07 AM
nah. if it were the "computers," then I doubt that OSU and LSU would be playing. But hey, what's wrong w/ taking a system that was designed to prevent the sportswriters from having too much influencing and whittling it down so that the sportswriters control it? Makes perfect sense to me
12/2/2007 11:23:44 PM
12/2/2007 11:39:41 PM
well, at least you are honest.

Reorganize the BCS conferences into 5 super conferences with 16 teams (Big East is consumed). You play 12 game schedules with 7 teams from your division, rotating 3 from the other division, and 2 non-conference games to bring the second-tier conferences into the picture and any other rivals. Each conference has a championship game. National Championship is an 8 team playoff with the 5 conferences champions and 3 at-large. (You still need a BCS-like formula to determine seeding and at-large bids... and bring back margin of victory)The conferences would look like...

Exactly, the BCS worked much better until they tinkered with it (substantially reduced the weighting of SOS and margin of victory, made it pretty much completely based on the whims of pollsters, etc.).
12/2/2007 11:47:36 PM
16-team conference is too fucking big.besides, you are STILL fucking the small conferences, so you still have an illegitimate champ
12/2/2007 11:48:32 PM
the solution is not to consolidate every team into one big league. that'd do nothing but turn college football into the nfl, which would be terrible.
12/2/2007 11:48:52 PM
They need to seriously consider changing the requirements for being a D-1A team. No way there should be 119 teams in 1A.

^ this is not the nfl!the ncaa not designed to give every team as much of a chance to win as possible, and rightfully so.
12/2/2007 11:57:28 PM
The NCAA shouldn't have anything to do with conferences. They are voluntary associations of schools.
12/2/2007 11:58:19 PM
i'm glad someone gets it.]
12/2/2007 11:59:04 PM
The NFL is lightyears ahead of virtually every other sports league or setup in the world. If the NCAA was not about trying to let every team win they wouldn't have changed the rules on scholarship numbers, recruiting rules, etc. The smart folks within the NCAA realized that parity can do for college football what it has done for the NFL, popularize it as a whole. The reason the NFL is so successful is because at the start of the year, with few exceptions your team has a shot at winning it all. It's the opposite in NCAA football, which is why the casual fan can't get into it.

I say keep the four BCS bowls. Have the winners of the Rose play the winners of the Sugar, and do the same with the other two. Take those winners and have 'em play for the NC. Preserves the bowl associative traditions and allows for teams like Georgia this year to make their claim.
12/3/2007 12:01:59 AM
^ that's really the only thing i can think of that i'm okay w/.

Well, it's true from a health, revenue, and rating's standpoint. Ask anyone who covers sports in America which is the most well run sports league and they'll tell you, almost to a man, that it's the NFL. Considering the state of sports in this country compared to the rest of the world it's not much of a stretch to say it's the best run league in the world. Only the EPL could possibly make an argument.[Edited on December 3, 2007 at 12:07 AM. Reason : afsdf]

How do you not? What other country has as significant a sporting environment as America? None. Outside of soccer most countries don't even have pro sports. The EPL is really the only pro sports league outside of the US that I would say is on par with the large US pro sports leagues.

12/3/2007 12:35:47 AM
Surprise Surprise THE Ohio State was chosen by a poll taken from biased sports geeks. i wonder how much cock the Athletic Director sucks to get OSU into the national championship again. The BCS national championship game carries no meaning for me personally. Upsets like how Illinois beat the Ohio State would allow more parody for the championship game.BCS and the general lack of parody anyway is a main reason i prefer NFL football a lot more then college. In the NFL any team can be a contender for the super bowl one year and be the shittiest team in the conference the next year.
12/3/2007 12:38:20 AM
It is always about money, and tradition. Any solution must be one that makes sure the same amount of money is generated. That means the current small bowls must stay in place, even though we have to many bowls and some really suck, it generates money for the community they are in plus TV/sponsorship revenues. I think the playoff should be a 12 team system. Top 4 teams get byes, and the first round games are played at 5-8 home field. This gives those teams an extra home game they wouldn't get in an 8 team system. All BCS conference champions make the tournament, and the top 2 mids get automatic as well(top 2 mid majors in the bcs formula, so Hawaii and BYU would be in). From there, the last spots are at large to the highest ranked teams, could be mid majors, whoever. All teams not involved in this system would still be available to play their normal bowl games, the BCS bowls now would be the semi's, championship game, and a 3rd place game(gets the 4 bowls). It would rotate each year.
