i had to keep my husband from singing along to the most famous songs. i love how they used bright red stage blood.

your husband likes showtunes?

^^I liked the squirting bits of blood because it was like Monty Python and I giggled every time someone's head hit the floor when they fell out of the chair.

my husband was in theater forever, and i think this is one of his favorite musicals (right up there with "little shop of horrors"). they wanted him to play sweeney todd at 'his' theater, but he couldn't find time for it. ^and yeah, our whole group laughed every time a body landed [Edited on December 26, 2007 at 11:30 PM. I thought it was an amazing movie!

I saw it Thursday night...I thought it was an okay movie. I enjoyed the musical aspect of it, and was a fan of Helena Bonham Carter's role. She was pretty wicked. Her dream scene was cool - I like how the colors were so intense, in such a contrast to most of the movie's very dark tones. And Toby and Anthony were cute characters - I feel like they left the ending with Anthony and Joanna sort of open, but not everything can be wrapped up easily like a little present. The twist at the end with Todd's wife was good though. Sad, but nice! But I guess overall, I was expecting more, from the Burton & Depp combo. Not horrible, just mediocre, I guess.

^you can only do so much when you're trying to stay relatively true to the broadway show

true! i would love to see the show, actually. i'm a theater fan, just never get to see much of it.

haven't seen it, but was it that same blood they used in sleepy hollow?

Saw it for the second time tonight. Fantastic.

Sweeney Todd was tight.

this was the most awful production i have ever seen. It was artistic and unique but you couldn't pay me to watch it again.

i'm wondering if kitty b can make one single post that doesn't have the word hubby or husband in it

yes i can. it just happened that his reaction to/involvement with this show was a lot more interesting than mine.

I usually hate the hell out of musicals, and I've always been reluctant to see Tim Burton's movies (they're usually well made, just a little morbid/fucking weird for my tastes), and I've never been a big fan of horror/slasher-type movies (which this one only loosely was), but my friends were and I figured I might as well come along... only $6 admission. That said, I liked this movie. Nothing too amazing, but I certainly enjoyed seeing it. It was about as Tim-Burton-ish as it possibly could have been, and yet somehow still within the realm of the normal enough to hold my attention and even laugh out loud at some of the more absurd parts ("Try the priest" song). If you don't have too much of a problem with musicals, Tim Burton, or blood, I recommend it.
