Cherokee: install new retard box and put distributer back in

Grand: swap transmission, control arms, front to back spring swap, new shocks, track bars and cross member. Also maybe I'll fix the exhaust.

Saturn: side mirror

i think you'd be happier and power ahead with a good dyno tune from fastlane (local ford mod motor specialists). probably run you an extra $200-300 though, but imo the power and piece of mind of a custom tune is worth it.

You think it would make a power difference? I realize every car is going to be a bit different, but the only non-stock item on mine right now is the K&N FIPK, and both Reinhart and Lidio (the owner of alternative auto) are Marauder owners who, judging by their good reputation on mm.net, put quite a bit of work into getting the tune right for the stock Marauder setup. Then again, mine is 4+ years old with 54k miles on it, so I suppose it might behave differently due to components aging? Hmmm...

mail order type tunes are typically very "safe" to cover a variety of cars, mods, and driving habits. even with the modern marvels of mass production, motors can still vary a lot. as can mods/drivers (obviously).

they've definitely come a LONG way in the past few years and a lot are making some impressive power gains, but it's my opinion that they're still mostly a middle of the road please everyone stab in the dark. even the companies (like this) that specialize in specific models have to account for some differences.

a custom tune is going to be for your car specifically. i've seen/heard of custom tuned 4v mustangs consistently making 20-30 more rwhp over sct based mail order tunes. keep in mind you're going to pay extra for a custom tune though, so it's not like you're getting free power or anything.

with a mostly stock car, it really boils down the money for the most part. if you want the best and are willing to spend the extra money, go custom. if you just want some extra power on a budget, go mail order.

i'm not waiting for christmas.. but by christmas i should have:

the project - piston coating (HPC) on the JEs and some machine work and misc shit to get the engine together (gaskets, bearings, etc)

the daily - probably some new control arms because i'm getting some clunking.. and maybe some brake parts (pads, rotors, etc)
