Ok so i have a question about a PC tuner. Currently i have an ati 650 hdtv tuner and it doesn't do QAM. I just get analog cable, and OTA HD. If i updated to a QAM/HD tuner what would i be able to get? We have digital cable in the apartment, would i be able to hook the tuner up in my room and get digital cable(channels 1-125 unencrpted maybe ?) and what HD channels would i get? Would they be through the cable or OTA? Doesn't anything OTA HD come through cable too?[Edited on November 9, 2007 at 10:35 AM. Reason : .]

^I think so. As long as you have the service through TWC vs just trying to get digital cable for free. I remember I used to do this and stream it to my xbox (original xbox) using the media center extender. The only channels that did not work without a 'hack' were HBO/Showtime because they restrict you from streaming those stations.

^ Yeah so something like this:http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=BROWSE&N=200108+11&Ne=500000&product_code=348701would be an upgrade from my ATI 650 because it can do QAM. The picture quality on the 650 analog NTSC is pretty bad. So I could get all the normal cable channels (1-125) in digital? Could I only get the HD network channels OTA, or would they be through cable as well? I want to get rid of the antenna but still get HD, and yeah we do have a digital box in the living room I just want it in my room on my computer too.

you can't get the encrypted channels past i thin 125 without the digital box. But as for DVR you would have that on your desktop anyway. As far as I remember I just had the cable plugged in directly from the wall and got everything except HD because HD channels were outside the 1-125 channel range. I use an over-the-air antenna for that.

^^ Yeah that's what i got from the googling i did. So just because the HD unencrypted (through the cable) is not from 1-125 means i can't get it through the receiver? It seems silly if the tuner is capable of ATSC, then shouldn't it be able to get the HD channels too? I'd rather have the HD through cable because i can't get a good signal from my apartment. Eitherway, the digital channels (1-125) should look MUCH better than the regular NTSC i get with my analog tuner.
