Actors are over paid, pay actors less and give writers and crew more...I mean look at Scrubs...Zach Braff gets paid 350,000 an episode...thats fucking insane.
11/8/2007 1:41:01 PM
networks are calling online streams of their shows (with paid ads) "promotions" so that they don't have to pay the writers for them
11/8/2007 1:41:26 PM
yeah, he's not listening
11/8/2007 1:44:10 PM
tough shit. you got beat by the lawyers on this one. sue them if they gipped you out of money; if the court finds that the networks could do what they did then it's tough shit, once again. renegotiate your contracts to account for this in the future. don't whine like little babies that you didn't get your 8 cents. on top of all of this, you were still paid to write. the crew workers who are currently unemployed due to your whiny asses are the ones going home poor.

not showing good faith by striking?
11/8/2007 5:47:38 PM
why should they show good faith when the Studios don't?The studios are claiming that DVDs are "still catching on", and are therefore they cannot spare any cash from DVD sales to pay the creators

I was on the fence until I saw the video of those whineyass office writers at the picket lines. now I don't give a fuck either way, but I definitely don't supper these wealthy whining vaginas while blue collar workers are out of work because of them

11/8/2007 7:42:43 PM
^^i really didn't the office video as whiney. most of the other ones? sure. but that one was mostly just snarky and funny.
11/8/2007 7:55:27 PM
we'll just say that the crew is on our team and then show offhand shots of people hanging around vans to support our point
11/8/2007 8:34:29 PM
If writers aren't important, and not worth the money, then I guess this strike shouldn't matter...but it does sooooo..... and if I were the studio heads, I'd be a tad concerned because with the internet, you don't need to have the money backing that you do with television and movies and so it becomes a matter of the studios needing the writers a hell of a lot more than the writers need the studios. My ex tried to tell me that since he's a shareholder in all the studios in one form or another (mutual funds etc) that he says, 'fuck the writers, actors etc' because that means more money for the studios and therefore more money for him...but while it may benefit a share holder in the short term (if they keep that extra $.04 for themselves) in the long run and really, it's not even that much of a long run...the studios are gonna plummet because nothing new will come out and then it won't matter whether it's an extra $.04 or $4.00.
11/8/2007 8:50:03 PM
^^so that's whiney now? i mean maybe they're lying (i really couldn't say). but that's your big complaint?
11/8/2007 8:56:26 PM
they handle the whole fucking issue of putting other people out of work by saying that the crew is their team and then showing offhand shots of people hanging around vans to support their point; it's cheap and manipulative and doesn't elicit sympathy. and then the rest of the video is them just being snarky jackasses. should I really feel bad for them?
11/8/2007 9:02:44 PM
^um....the crew is all in unions too and as a group they get paid more than the writers. Their teamsters are a lot more persuasive than the WGAs...And the writers aren't shutting down anything...they are choosing not to work. They're not getting paid and they're not under contract. You can't make a person do something that they are not legally required to do or morally for that matter.]
11/8/2007 9:04:01 PM
^are you retarded? what are they going to shoot if there's no script?
11/8/2007 9:08:30 PM
11/8/2007 9:13:50 PM
As much as I hate to defend m2c, scripts are written well before they are shot, there is still stuff to shoot for many of the shows[Edited on November 8, 2007 at 9:14 PM. Reason : a]
11/8/2007 9:14:10 PM
and iirc they shot all of that for the office, for instance, on mondayhow are they being whiny? they are throwing their pity parade for 8 fucking cents that they aren't even legally entitled to in the first place.
11/8/2007 9:16:55 PM
^^^^are YOU retarded? Since when are you required to work (for less money than the crew btw) just so that another group of people can work? And you are aware that since there's a million reality tv shows, scripts aren't really needed nor are most of the news. There's plenty of crap scripts lying around that if the studios were that concerned about making sure the crew works in full force they absolutely could make it happen. Many of the seasons tv sitcom scripts have already been written...what they don't have are the writers there to do the rewrites]
11/8/2007 9:17:14 PM
you're not required to work so someone else can work. it is a dick move though, especially when you're the rich kids. even more so when you baldly claim they are on your team. no one here is talking about reality shows. these scripted shows typically have "sets". have you heard of "sets" or are you really that retarded? what "crap scripts" are you talking about? give me a few examples. ^^^^^ & ^^^ I have no clue what that first part of your post is supposed to explain....I'm sure it's something, I just don't get it.As for the second part of your post...you're correct, at this point in time they aren't legally entitled to the 8 cents. Also, they don't legally have to work. See how that works both ways? Yeah, I've heard of sets. I've been on a lot of them actually but I digress. Did you not read what I wrote 'AS A GROUP, THE CREW UNIONS GET PAID MORE THAN THE WRITERS' so the 'rich kids' are actually the other ones but I'm gonna go ahead and assume that you mean the 'rich kids' like 'The Office' writers which of course represents the majority of the WGA members. Seriously, are you not reading anything I wrote? Do you think that those crew members are only used to film and build sets for shows and movies? How do you think reality shows are filmed? Commercials? You think grips and boom operators, for example, are only used when there's a script? If you're going to try and argue a point, at least use actual knowledge and not your logic because cleary, you lack in that department. ]

The writers get $0.04 for every DVD sold. This hasn't gone up since VHS days. All they want is it bumped to $0.08 per DVD (with the same rates applied to internet downloads which they currently get nothing from). Sounds fair to me.I hate the MPAA and RIAA. They claim they sue people for the artists, but they are just greedy bastards.

by doing this, both sides are fucking the one thing that matters in the ass - the viewers/fans. i dont have sympathy for either party, it takes two to strike
11/30/2007 10:42:13 AM
11/30/2007 10:45:04 AM
i dont know, i think both sides would have to be equally stubborn to keep a strike going for more than a couple of days. the current losses are roughly the same for both parties, possibly even more so for the networks, so both have the same relative motivation to end the strike (or vice versa). once one side's losses outweigh the other, then the latter will concede enough terms to end the strike.
