Larry Coker to UNC?haha, just think of who they'll have to settle for when butch leaves
10/28/2007 6:24:02 PM
But they were cheating, and they were very good. haha
10/28/2007 6:29:08 PM
anyone know where this rumor originated from?
10/28/2007 6:30:53 PM
who cares? lets just do our job and spread it like wildfire so recruits considering UNC have to 2nd guess themselves.

i know none of you would notice, or maybe you have and are ignoring it, but fan support has been 1000% better since butch was hired, and he's gotten or will get just about everything he's asked for as far as bettering the program is concerned. this rumor was just started by some guy who thought the situation was plausible and its grown into a full fledged clusterfuck of morons repeating the same rumor every day as if its some new development.^ and thats not correct, he was offered the same amount to stay as what texas offered. the specific reasons are still argued about [Edited on October 28, 2007 at 6:56 PM. 10/28/2007 6:57:20 PM
yeah they should have, but baddour is a douchebag and didn't feel it was necessary, thinking he'd stay out of loyalty. hopefully he knows better now^^ and what the fuck are you spouting about[Edited on October 28, 2007 at 7:00 PM. Reason : .]

3.2 mil for how many years, that doesn't sound like a whole heck of a lot of money for an SEC coach or getting a man to leave a job he had just taken and was enthusiastic about^^10001[Edited on October 28, 2007 at 7:04 PM. Reason : k]

10/29/2007 9:51:31 AM
he can do more at unc because theres less competition and plus he's getting kenan domed in and expanded to 75k. they will do whatever he says.

Another thing to consider is that if they were to keep Davis and match Arkansas offer of 3.2 million a year, what is that going to tell Roy Williams who has already won a title for them? They will at least have to match both Williams with Davis in terms of contract agreements as well as raise the whole staff and every other coach over at UNC and I really don't see Dick Baddour wanting to do that.As for UNC killing recruitment of this area, you have obviously not seen where we have both the #1 offensive and defensive player in the state coming here (Brandon Barnes, Terrell Manning). O'Brien doesn't need great players to win football games because while at Boston College he only had 1 five star player and that was Brian Toal. I think that before you praise UNC recruiting you should take a look at what I found:"Clemson has an academic review board that prospects' transcripts must go through in order to continue to be recruited by the football staff. This board turned down the following players among others:JoJo Cox-unsignedDwight Jones-North CarolinaTydreke Powell-North CarolinaRyan Houston-North CarolinaBrandon Paul-Florida StateWeslye Saunders-South CarolinaOlufemi Ajiboye-South CarolinaJarius Wynn-Georgia"and here is the linkhttp://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/category/ncaafootball/2007/02/09/clemsons-dirty-little-battle-between-football-and-academics/

are there rules in college athletics that prevent schools from contacting currently employed coaches?
10/30/2007 10:55:46 PM
^ I think it's cool, as long as the coach's current school is aware of what's going on. Fowler knew Sendek was talking w/ ASU weeks before the news broke that he would be leaving. And for once, dumbass Fowler did a good job by not trying to fight to keep him. Guess miracles do happen.
10/30/2007 10:58:33 PM
i believe that it's considered professional courtesy to ask the AD's permission to do so, but that's only a courtesy. you don't have to have any sort of permission.i could be wrong on this.
10/30/2007 11:02:47 PM
well most pro leagues (i think) require permission from the organization before other teams can contact someone on their staffi'm sure there's something similar in the ncaa
10/30/2007 11:04:14 PM
i would think that if such things exist, it'd be a conference rule, not an entire ncaa rule.again, could be wrong.
10/30/2007 11:06:48 PM
^^there is no rule or regulation regarding schools contacting currently employed coaches, but the rule of thumb is that if school A's Athletics Director doesn't ask permission to talk to school B's coach then in the future other ADs will not ask school A's Athletics Director for permission to talk to their coaches
10/30/2007 11:41:41 PM
The courtesy thing of contacting a school's AD for permission to talk really wouldn't need to happen until very late in the search. These days schools try to avoid directly talking to the coach until they know what the answer is, using back channels with intermediaries instead.
10/31/2007 12:21:16 AM
Now these days people will go after anybody they want to and do whatever they please. If Butch wants to leave then let him leave but I really do wonder who UNC will pull in if he does leave. The top replacements for Butch I believe would be:Phil Fulmer - Head Coach Tennessee (if he gets fired)Bud Foster - DC Virginia Tech (he showed a lot of interest in NCSU when we were looking)Jimbo Fisher - OC Florida State (this guy is dying to be a head coach somewhere)Will Muschamp - DC Auburn (rumors that if Fisher came here that he would come along)These are just a few names that I am throwing out but I think that they are pretty legit.

10/31/2007 4:52:23 PM
Can someone please make threads on the UNC board for this so when a recruit goes there, they see it immediately in the thread title.I mean, how wide spread is this rumor?
10/31/2007 5:02:52 PM
I cant see Fulmer coaching anywhere else... if he resigns I see him going into Administration
10/31/2007 5:02:56 PM
Those are just some names that I thought of off the top of my head that UNC might take because nothing really shocks me anymore as far as coaching changes go. If Butch was to pull a Dennis Erickson or Bob Huggins I would have to celebrate
10/31/2007 5:46:58 PM
Arkansas is going to move to the Big 12 soon, so the SEC is too tough argument doesn't have any weight behind it. Missouri will move to the Big 10 making it the Big 12b so that the Big 10 TV Network will have another major metro area to be on (St. Louis) and they can have a conference title game. Arkansas will replace Missouri to rejoin their old SWC rivals. Who replaces Arkansas in the SEC is anyones guess.
