I can't imagine how going out around Times Square is fun, even as a tourist

I understand the tourist aspect of seeing it during the day and going into all the stores and attractions. I understand the tourist aspect of seeing all the lights and people at night. But I don't understand what's so great about going out around there for drinks at night.
