burman 400's are good comfy bikes with a top speed of about 105-110. i have ridden one. they will go cross country easily and comfortably.[Edited on October 25, 2007 at 9:12 AM. Reason : d]

500 ninja would do just fine, or even gs500 with the fairings. are not really a sportbike, they have pegs and raised bars, not rearsets and clipons.as far as vibrating at 115, are you really gonna go cross-country at 115? they so a lot better at 35-55, where you;ll be spending most of your time at. they are proven relibale and design havent changes in like 10 years so the parts are plentiful if you do have a problem down the road.and gor god's sake, don't take the interstates if you ever gonna go through with this trip.also, either learn about basic operating principles of the bike/ roadside emergency repair techniques, or at least get a badass AMA/AAA plan before heading out[Edited on October 25, 2007 at 7:01 PM. Reason : even possibly 250 ninja could be allright albeit that one would be borderline too slow.]

Cool. How about a serious answer? I really don't think fuel consumption is a trait to look at for cross country. I think they are pretty much the same platform, but running a 250 on the interstate cross country would absolutely suck, and personally, I would consider it dangerous. It just doesn't have the top end to accelerate out of trouble if needed.Yeah, the Ninja 250's are fun. I know people that race them. And there is a pretty big following of them on the racing circuit. But I damn sure wouldn't take off cross country on one...unless I was planning on the trip taking about a month and I was going to primarily run rural 'slow' roads the whole way.Fair enough?

yes that fair. thank you but why would you not be worried about fuel consumption. if i was going to be filling the tank up numerous times guess i would be worried about how much money would be blow on gas. just a thought

Ninja 250 is 36 hp. Ninja 500 is 52 hp. There is a fairly big difference in power between the 2.
10/26/2007 7:56:05 PM
i know that much. but when riding cross country you are trying to see the country? why does top end and hp matter?[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 8:01 PM. Reason : /]

Legit questions. Now we're getting somewhere.Having feeling in my balls comes waaaaay before saving a buck or two on fuel. And their fuel consumption probably isn't all that much different. Top speed really has nothing to do with. I would be more worried about running super high rpm's all day. The vibration will absolutely crush you after a couple hours. I couldn't even imagine dealing with that for 3000 miles one way, and 3000 miles back.Plus a 250 just doesn't have the juice to get out of it's own way on the interstate. If you ride enough, you'll know how important it is to be able to get out of harms way, and quickly.

DO NOT TAKE THE INTERSTATE
