You do realize both HD DVD and Blu-ray use the blue diode/laser, right? Probably not because your entire post was a bunch retarded anti-Sony bullshit anyway.

The Circuit City deal is for real, I stopped at 2 different stores yesterday and picked up 14 Blu-Rays and they were all 50% off.

And LOL at the cat who thinks HD-DVD doesn't use blue diodes b/c blue isn't in the title.

And LOL at Golovko for nitpicking, even though it's clear that Blu-Ray has been dominating since its TRUE premiere (the launch of the Sony Trojan Horse).

Can we just get one thing right? It's HD DVD (no hyphen) and Blu-ray (hyphen and lowercase "r"). Sorry, but it's hard to have a serious discussion about something when everyone keeps typing their names wrong

no, i didn't...it was my understanding that there was a significant difference between the diodes/lasers used for bluray and those used for hd-dvd...if there isn't, why the premium for bluray hardware? and tell me what in sony's history of new proprietary formats/hardware DOESN'T warrant anti-sony sentiments? they consistently develop high-quality products and then shoot themselves (and their customers, i might add), by being retarded about who can use/manufacture their product and it has NOTHING to do with quality control

Well the main difference between the two is that data on Blu-ray discs is written closer to the surface of the disc, meaning it's essentially more densely packed with data (if someone knows more about this, please to chime in, as I am not very smart). For this to work, they had to develop a nigh indestructible hard coating to place on the disc, in order to protect the data as it is much more vulnerable to corruption than in DVDs/HD DVDs. As you can imagine, that hard coating is pretty damn expensive. I can only guess they are offloading the extra cost off producing these discs onto the players, as they figured while people might be willing to spend a few hundred bucks more on the player, they wouldn't pay $10+ more per disc. Besides that, I'm pretty sure they are fixing the prices of stand alone players in order to market the PS3 as the cheapest Blu-ray player on the planet, since it's pretty much their most important product.

As far as Blu-ray being a proprietary format, you can buy a Blu-ray players/drives from Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Sharp, Hitachi, Philips, and Lite-on. As of right now, you can only get an HD DVD player from Toshiba. Make your own conclusions.

I don't think there is one. The closest you'll get is the PS3 which will play SACDs. The new Denon player might support both, but they haven't really released any detailed specs for it.

I posted that there is a dual format player out there that does blu-ray and HD DVD...
I posted that Transformers is only going to be released in HD DVD format.
I posted that the PS3 is a disaster for sony

non of which are wrong statements. Plz try again...except not! "...because I don't care about TWW!"

you're just pissed you spent $600 on trash.

I'd really love for you to explain how the PS3 is a disaster. Or how a $600 product that does more than multiple devices costing hundreds of dollars (even if you completely ignore the fact that it plays game) more is trash. Also, didn't you have to buy a second 360 because you were tired for your first one breaking? Maybe you're just pissed you spent more than $600 buying an unreliable piece of shit (twice), with half the A/V functionality of a PS3.

I have two perfectly working Xbox360's. One in my room (soon to be at work) and one downstairs. I don't see how one is a POS.

Second, my worst game that I own is still 100 times better then the PS3's 'hottest' title.

It plays HDDVD's

Its an 'all-in-one' media unit because..

1) it DVR's for me
2) it plays GREAT games (not just shitty titles)
3) it plays HD DVD's
4) it streams hd movies and tv shows from my PC
5) I can 'rent' an HD movie or tv show (or in standard def.) with a push of a button
6) Xbox LIVE

The reasons the PS3 is a total disaster has been covered time and time again...go re-read those threads.

So essentially, you ride my cock in every single thread I post in involving the words "PS3" or "Blu-ray". Then when I ask you to qualify a single thing you've posted, you reply with a bunch of subjective and uninformed babble about games (which has nothing to with this thread), and then tell me to go read about it somewhere else because you don't actually know what you're talking about it.

And please, for your own sake, don't turn this into a list war because the PS3 will destroy the 360 in things that they can do, even after you've spent more than the cost of the PS3 to get it to do those things you listed.

Spent more? Xbox360 + HD DVD player does everything I listed and more. There is nothing else that costs money. I already have a PC. I already have a wireless network. I already have a connection to the internet.

Take your fanboy bs some where else.

'uninformed' haha...you are uninformed.

HDMI Xbox 360 w/Hard drive + HD DVD player costs more than a PS3. See what I mean by uninformed?

And are you really using the fact that you own a PC and a wireless network to negate the 360's shortcomings? Well shit, I have a PC too with a huge library of games, and my PS3 plays every PS2 and PS1 game out there. I guess its ok that the PS3 has shit for games now!

the only thing that sucks about xbox 360s is the audio
not being designed for dts or hd formats was a bad move but it doesn't sound bad (i think they released a patch that converts dts to the microsoft format it supports wma direct or something)... just not as good as it should.

^ but an xbox is useful as something other than an hd dvd player where the ps3 isn't due to lack of games. and for those of us with a ps2 and an xbox360 there isn't any reason to get a ps3 yet.

btw i'd bet most people with an hd tv in our age group have a 360 already.

Well sure, if you want 120GB of storage capacity. However, the cost of a Xbox360+HDDVD player is LESS then a PS3. AND you get forza 2 and Ultimate Alliance free with it. Oh and, this is a neat cutting edge feature...but your controller actually rumbles! Its amazing...its like you can feel whats happening to you in the game.

I was mentioning that I have all that so you don't come in here with some lame "omfg you have to buy a PC to use it as a media extender, OMFG @#$%@#!"

the PS3 is more of a 'lets see how many features we can cram into this thing' and after they completed the product they went 'oops we forgot about the gaming'....

Again, the "lack of games" argument is 100% subjective. Besides that, you're more or less right. I really having nothing against the 360, I think it's great at what it does and I probably would have bought one if not for the early lack of HDMI and the reliability issue (or if I didn't have a gaming capable PC). All I'm trying to do is get Golovko to qualify his comments about the PS3 being a disaster and trash. So far all he can manage is repeating the tired and obsolete argument about the PS3s game library, which has nothing do with this thread.

This doesn't apply to people who want to watch movies that are only available on Blu-ray. Like, I dunno, the Spider-man or POTC movies.

^I do know that, I also know that the new PS3 will soon be costing $400 and comes bundled with Spider-man 3 on Blu-ray. There has never been a point in time where an HDMI 360 w/ a hard drive and an HD DVD player (you know, the topic of this thread) has cost less than a PS3. It's also an inferior HD movie player to the PS3 due to the aforementioned audio issues.

I just answered that for you. Xbox360Pro have HDMI now...they don't cost $479 like the 120gb elite. When you add a pro + hddvd it comes to $525. read. learn. stfu.

and as for spider-man....I'd rather be watching Transformers then some emo kid in tights.
