what's wrong with that wall???
10/9/2007 10:01:08 AM
I like the color. It's nice and bright. Of course, it depends on the room it's in.Looks like you mostly just need more paint on the roller. I painted a room a color of similar coverability (tealish), and I just did one coat + touch ups where it was thin.

^^ever hear of "puke green" if not, thats the color you picked out

part of the problem is the color. the brighter a color, the less white it has and the thinner it seems...then you end up with lots of streaks/lines and you have to do 6-8 coats. you run into this same problem with red paint.if you're going to use a bright color, don't buy cheap paint. go with the nicest stuff you can get your hands on. go to an actual paint store, not just lowe's or home depot. my advice would be to stay away from bright colors anyway. they're too bright, you will get sick of them, and people will walk in and think "what the hell made them choose this nasty color?" i've seen many people go into the store, pick a paint, and slap it on the walls as soon as they get home. you need to take multiple shades of the color you think you want, take it home, look at it in daylight, lamp light, and any other light you have...and then choose the shade lighter than you think you want. 99% of the time it's too strong. buy the little sample can of paint and put it on a 3' by 3' section of wall before you paint the whole room in pea soup.my guess is that it will take a few more coats than just 1 to get it covered.i'm so thankful i grew up with an architect for a father. i can't believe that some folks don't now how to do these things.

how are you guys going to pick on the colorhell it could be for the baby's room
10/9/2007 11:35:21 AM
is that latex or semi-gloss?quick solution: animal stickers
10/9/2007 11:47:59 AM
^that makes no sense. latex is a type of paint, semi-gloss is a type of finish. it's latex or oil.orit's flat, eggshell, semi-gloss, gloss.^^regardless of what the room's function is, the color is hideous.[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 11:53 AM. Reason : ]

i didn't say they should use white, i said colors with more white in them are easier to paint with.and i didn't say all bright colors were nasty either. i have a red dining room and i love it. it was a pain in the ass to get it covered evenly, but it's done. no room in my house is white/cream/any variation thereof.it's all in the shade[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 12:12 PM. That color is pretty bad. It's going to cause anxiety and disrupt your sleep if it's a bedroom. Looks like you ground up a teletubby and sprayed him on your wall.

i like the color. i think the lighting and the mottledness of it make it look bad right now. i'm gonna put another coat on tomorrow night probably (hopefully).[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 12:26 PM. Reason : and yes, it is for the baby's room]
10/9/2007 12:26:23 PM
oh, flat or semigloss is what i meant to ask. bedrooms should painted with flat, bathroom/kitchen with semi.
10/9/2007 1:25:57 PM
actually, eggshell is a much better choice b/c it can be cleaned. flat paint cannot be cleaned or wiped off w/o leaving something behind (and it'll look like shit). eggshell is not glossy but can be cleaned...much better in a child's room, or room that a child or pet may go into.

Dark Colors are hard as shit to get right, that is why painters charge more to paint them. You will most likely either need a skilled painter, 50 gallons of paint so you can do 50 coats, or do some funky sponge thing that way you can pretend its that way on purpose. Either way dark colors will be a total PITA
10/9/2007 2:45:04 PM
And yes our living room is a greyish teal green (a lil' darker than seafoam green too), but it's HOTT. This is clearly LAWN GRASS GREEN or EASTER GREEN, however you look at it. And no it doesn't depend on the room or the lighting, at the end of the day, it's STILL UGLY BRIGHT KELLY GREEN. Yuck! But to each his own, I guess. On a more serious note, yeah eggshell is the way to go. It's easy to keep clean and easy to get off doorway trim, baseboards, or carpet if you have an accident. Our walls at Ivy Chase are textured (unfortunately) and have grooves and ridges in them so it was a bitch to go back and touch up the spots that didn't get covered completely, but make sure you have a good paint and some good rollers (White Dove contractor 3-pk. FTW).

it's a kid's room. kids like bright colors.
