That's a Southern accent you've got there. You may love it, you may hate it, you may swear you don't have it, but whatever the case, we can hear it.

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

You definitely have a Boston accent, even if you think you don't. Of course, that doesn't mean you are from the Boston area, you may also be from New Hampshire or Maine.

From the new test I land in this range, considering I pronounce some of these words with no greater prevalence between one or another.36% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.46% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.Although Yankee vs Dixie results seems to only consider longitude, whereas it could be a better tool if it considered latitude issues too since speech patterns certainly do.

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

Interesting, it called Northeast for me. I've lived in NC all my life, but both of my parents are from North Jersey, so...Then again, a lot of folks have a hard time placing my accent, or say I don't have much of one. I do have an interesting mix of southern phrases with the occasional "Jersey a" or other northeastern pronunciation oddities...

one time i was driving through cheraw, sc, and i stopped to get some gas and a powerball ticket (before the lottery). as she's printing my ticket, the girl (couldn't have been over 20) looks up and says with an i-still-use-an-outhouse accent, "you ain't from 'round here, are yeh?" it was like some shit straight out of deliverance. all i could do was smile and say, "no, no i'm not"
10/3/2007 11:31:45 PM
Haha, it said I was like 95% midland and less than 50% everything else in terms of a match.I imagine that's correct. I grew up in Cary and my parents didn't have an accent. Hard to have one if you're never exposed to one.
