10/16/2007 3:47:39 PM

10/16/2007 5:06:15 PM
^^^No, I'd say that about updating to Vista.
10/16/2007 5:16:14 PM
^I would
10/16/2007 5:25:11 PM
so how long do you think it'll be before i can install Leopard on my dell?
10/16/2007 7:03:06 PM
2 weeks tops.
10/16/2007 7:10:47 PM
10/16/2007 9:31:37 PM
apple haters think that they're charging $129 for a service pack like M$. When infact a service pack is just a patch to fix all the bugs and what not. OS X new releases is more of an upgrade then XP to VistaIt's like Half-life to Half-life 2. Same awesome game with a whole new engine and graphics.
10/16/2007 10:04:46 PM
several good previews provided by appleinsider over the last week or two:Preview 4.0Finder 10.5Dock 1.6SpacesTime MachineMail 3.0iChat 4.0Dictionary 2.0Plenty of cool things in there to get excited about.
10/16/2007 10:19:03 PM
yeah, i've been really impressed with the thoroughness of appleinsider's road to leopard series. i didn't really read appleinsider before 2 weeks ago, now i've been looking forward to new stuff from them
10/16/2007 10:35:57 PM
I'm somewhat dismayed by the deleted material though...Screw apple's external counsel.
10/16/2007 11:14:55 PM
Will the bookstore have Leopard on the 26th at the student price?
10/17/2007 6:54:25 PM
Depends on the rep and if Apple hates its education resellers as much as it starting to seem to. Last year they stayed open late and ordered a couple hundred copies of the upgrade, but nobody came. Hopefully if they do something like that this year, they'll advertise it better.
10/17/2007 7:49:35 PM

id buy one for $40
10/24/2007 10:09:32 AM
I ordered the 5 pack as well, splitting it with 4 other co-workers.
10/24/2007 10:34:21 AM
10/24/2007 10:46:30 AM
buying a Leopard license is only good for upgrading from Tiger, right? I can't buy a license from somebody for $40 and then buy a new macbook from apple without Leopard installed and save $129 off the price of the macbook, right?
10/24/2007 10:48:11 AM
The apple Leopard discs, like the Tiger discs before them, do not require a previously installed OS. They do however check to make sure the machine is an actual Apple machine that is able to run it. This means that if you screw up your drive or have it formatted, you don't have to reinstall OSX 10.whatever then install Leopard. You can just install Leopard. Will apple sell you an OSless machine? Of course not- the cost of developing their OS software is amortized across the sales of future Mac hardware sales and not just upgrade sales.[Edited on October 24, 2007 at 10:57 AM. ^no, it reports back home to apple, but it only sends your mac's serial number and stuff to them. they have no way of knowing if you've bought a license for it or not.
10/24/2007 2:12:49 PM
nice - that's a lot easier than Windows Activation, "if you upgrade more than 2 components it counts as a new computer" or whatever bullshit.
