I thought Vince Vaughn was great, but I'll have to peek in again - I can't believe I completely ignored Galifianakis.

does anyone know when this is coming to the 1.50 theater or if it already has?
1/19/2008 10:47:28 PM
I doubt it will. If it was it should already of been there probably since it has been a while since it has played at any theaters in the area. DVD comes out Feb. 12th though.

is this the story about the dude who gave up like $25 then went hiking and ate some moldy potato seeds or something?
1/20/2008 10:56:01 AM
Yes, it is.
1/20/2008 11:53:59 AM
waste of $1.50
2/23/2008 7:42:48 PM
I thought it was great. One of my favorites now for sure. The soundtrack really worked well also.

I just saw the movie and though it was great. I read the book a couple years ago. I didnt remember the Moose getting infected with maggets the way it did in the movie, but it makes sense. I also didnt remember the parents relationship being abusive at all. What was really sad, which the movie didnt touch on, was exactly how easy he could of escaped. Apparently, there was some easy way over the river which Krakauer pointed out in the book. I think "Supertramp" found alot of solace in the bus and the wild and probably decided he could wait for the river to lessen. Unfortunately, he killed the moose and spent more energy in trying to perserve the meat then he actually took into his body. He had said that was his biggest mistake.
3/6/2008 11:21:07 PM
hopefully going to see it sunday, if it's still at the 1.50
3/7/2008 7:25:54 AM
^^ I think the moose infection was discussed in the book. I think that was the part where native Alaskans looked at the remains and were calling Chris stupid and ill-prepared because he couldn't tell the difference between a moose and a caribou. Turned out though Chris was right and it was a moose.
3/7/2008 9:48:52 AM
^^^in the book there was an easier way across the river, however the critique of his planning and saga was that like ^ said, a lot of alaskans shook their head because for all his "smarts" and all, he neglected to have proper maps which would have indicated the one man gondola type contraption that could have carried him across the river w/ ease, no matter the time of year
3/7/2008 10:13:31 AM
...and it looks like it's already gone from the 1.50 :/
3/7/2008 11:20:04 AM
probably because it came out on DVD this past tuesday.
3/7/2008 11:24:40 AM
^^I GOT 1.50 FOR YA!
3/7/2008 12:09:48 PM
^^yeah but it seems like it was only at the 1.50 for a week. ah well.^i charge a little more than that, dear

3/8/2008 8:53:14 PM
^^ehe i think bennymac made that
3/8/2008 9:23:45 PM
i absolutely hated this movie. this was the worst movie i've seen in a LONG time. it was way too long. it was extremely cliche. sean penn, you failed. oh and the soundtrack fucking sucks. fuck you eddie vedder.best review of this movie i read:"Contrary to the lessons we learned in Werner Herzog's Grizzly Man, large bears will not always eat irritating hippie man-children. Damn shame."[Edited on March 30, 2008 at 10:18 PM. Reason : .]
3/30/2008 10:07:55 PM
damn, what a bitch
3/30/2008 10:50:31 PM
i have to agree that this movie fucking sucked. don't know how it got so many awards/so much praise.. it was really self-indulgent, cliche, obvious, and glorified a selfish kid who hated his parents and society so much that he decided to be homeless.. not a sympathetic character at all. the acting from the main kid was pretty good, but this movie was painful to watch. did he ever actually help anyone, or do anything good for anyone? why did the movie not touch on this at all? 1.5/10and vince vaughn as a farmer in South Dakota? seriously? least believable character ever[Edited on March 30, 2008 at 11:50 PM. I thought the book was decent enough, but I did think the movie was pretty bad

I thought about watching this last night, glad I didn't

i own this movie and i enjoyed the movie for the movie. But, yes, i do agree with the recent opinions posted on this page. i find the alaskan negative opinions of him true, for someone to die of starvation less than 4 miles from the alaskan highway is pure idiocracy.
3/31/2008 8:39:33 AM
For those who are thinking about not watching it now, do it anyway. This is one movie that you either really love or hate a lot. I haven't heard many in betweens.
3/31/2008 8:42:08 AM
pretty sure the movie wasn't intended to necessarily glorify the guy. in a nutshell, he died for being wholly neglegent (sp?), overzealous, and extremely whimsical. it's merely a very interesting story made into a film. that is all.and the soundtrack is fucking fantastic. katherine, you and i aren't e-friends anymore.

Personally, I have always wanted to do something LIKE McCandless did. Definitely not the same thing, but I have wanted to take off by myself for a month or so and just live somewhere harsh by myself. I have always been the kind of person who doesn't really need to be in the company of others to stay sane, and a trip or quest like that really appeals to me. I wouldn't be tossing my money to charity or leaving my car in the desert, but getting away from the things of man has always been in the back of my mind. I think the movie holds a lot of appeal for people like me who can see themselves in that role somewhat. People who hate the movie might not see that deep into the character, and the negative stuff stands out because there is no relation. I liked it, but I definitely understand and respect the other opinions.
3/31/2008 9:34:42 AM
^i've always had in the back of my mind to just move to a new city with some clothes and starter cash and just live my life getting a basic job and seeing who i meet that way for several months.
3/31/2008 9:40:09 AM
^^i've also had a similar desire to get away from society for awhile, but really, the way he did it was dumb. he was ill-prepared... i think he wanted to die out there, but i'm not sure anyone would want to starve to death (and yeah, i know he was sick, too). i'd make sure to know how to survive as best as i could[Edited on March 31, 2008 at 10:33 AM. exactly. at the base, Chris McCandliss was brave, and pretty inspiring as a human being. but, again, quite overzealous, and neglegent. i'd love to do something like that. but i'd plan 1000x more.

i didn't hate the movie because he was an idiot, i hated the movie because it was badthe story it's based on was actually interesting..i kind of want to read the book now. doesn't mean the movie didn't suck [Edited on March 31, 2008 at 5:31 PM. Reason : .]

He wasn't brave, he was an idiot
3/31/2008 5:48:48 PM
no he was both, actually
3/31/2008 5:50:10 PM
This movie was kinda ass
3/31/2008 6:50:46 PM

a lot of people don't like eddie...and i understand thatand i do get wary of his slow stuffbut i do appreciate him trying to write his own version of "nebraska"i'm just glad i listened to the album before i saw the movie
3/31/2008 7:35:43 PM
btw this video is awesome (and is actually a pretty powerful soldier tribute) before it turns into bush hating propaganda at the last second[Edited on March 31, 2008 at 8:07 PM. Reason : video is NOT approved by pearl jam btw]

well the ron part was sad, i'll admit. and hopefully the book does go into more detail. but in the movie, its like he walked into these hippies lives and just totally changed them forever because he is so christ-like and wise. i dunno. if the book elaborates on that, then ok. but the way the movie portrayed his relationships with the hippies seemed really really fake. it just didn't seem believable. and again, i think that is the movie being bad, not the story itself.
3/31/2008 8:33:36 PM
reading the book may be a good pre-req for the movie it seemsi dont know. i read the book first. definitely goes into more detail.
