^^when have you ever triedMike Williams was the most dominant college wide receiver in the last 10 years...FACT
9/12/2007 1:18:43 PM
what about torry holt?
9/12/2007 1:20:09 PM
Williams was greatas was Jarrett and as is Turner. But none of those guys would be able to produce anything near what Johnson did with Reggie Ball throwing to them. They all ran 4.6's or worse and had three likely top 10 overall NFL draft pick QB's throwing to them. They all had single coverage because USC was practically a semi-pro team with NFL talent at every skill position.
9/12/2007 1:20:53 PM
if Johnson went to USC he would've gotten 1/3 of the catches...put Mike Williams on Georgia Tech and he is just as dominant^^get off my nuts you fucking faggot]
9/12/2007 1:22:02 PM
I remember Tommy Frazier, Gino Torretta, and Charlie Ward being some of the most dominant guys on the field. Reggie Bush too. All at the COLLEGE level.
9/12/2007 1:22:22 PM
me too...which is why i dont bring up Holt's probowl selections in the NFL, and instead focus on how he dominated one of the best secondaries in the nation (FSU) on a consistent basis with JAMIE BARNETTE throwing it to him...is Reggie Ball THAT MUCH BETTER
9/12/2007 1:23:53 PM
Reggie Ball is that much WORSE...He was the black Randy Fasani.Mike Williams couldn't run away from Dante Wesley. In the red zone, yes, speed is less of a factor. But Calvin could beat you from anywhere on the field.Remember 2 years ago when Jarrett got caught from behind by a Notre Dame corner at the end of that game?USC doesn't need their WR's to be fast because they have so many ways to beat you.GT had nobody else.[Edited on September 12, 2007 at 1:25 PM. ^^^ I am not disputing what you are saying.I'm just chiming in on Jaybee's post. I just remember Torretta being a freak on the field. A year later, Charlie Ward. The Tommy Frazier. These guys were dominating defenses and were fantastic college players. Too bad nobody remembers them because of their lackluster pro careers.[Edited on September 12, 2007 at 1:28 PM. Reason : :]
9/12/2007 1:27:46 PM
Frazier would be in my top 10... just didnt go that far
9/12/2007 1:29:39 PM
yes and i realize that we're talking about college careers...i'm not basing holt's current status as nfl superstar on my views of him playing in COLLEGE...but Torry, like Calvin, was the only option...Torry, like Calvin, didnt have a superstar QB throwing to him...and Torry, like Calvin, dominated defensive secondaries with great hands, speed, and route runningMike Williams was still more dominanthell i saw biakabatuka rush for over 300 yards aginst ohio state one year[Edited on September 12, 2007 at 1:31 PM. 9/12/2007 2:03:31 PM
and the knobslobbing of Calvin Johnson didnt help the thread either since Mike Williams is a more dominant college WR than Calvin Johnsonhe actually dominated as a freshman and sophomore before declaring for the draft...he didn't wait til his junior year to break double digit touchdownsnm...apparently stats are irrelevant when talking about dominant players]
9/12/2007 2:06:28 PM
I would have Williams as #2 probably
9/12/2007 2:15:16 PM
and dont get me wrong...Johnson is a beast...its just when State's shitty 2ndary can halfway contain him, how dominant is he? He's just huge, fast, great hands...physically he dominates most defenders but so do other star WRs
9/12/2007 2:23:03 PM
lol at the chuckleheads still taking a shit on Charles Rogers...is Michigan State too far north for you guys to follow?
9/12/2007 2:23:57 PM
Mike Williams had Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart throwing him the ball so it's hard to try and compare Johnson versus Williams. Also most of you on this board are too young to have gone to a game that featured Torry. He was fucking amazing. My freshman year at State was in 97 and I went to that 5 TD game at FSU. He was a man amongst children. The next year in Raleigh he had two more TDs, one of which was a sick punt return. He got robbed of the Biletnikoff award that year to Troy Edwards who had a huge season against shit teams and one huge game (like 280 yds) versus Nebraska.

MIKE VICK
9/12/2007 2:34:36 PM
Ball had some great games mixed in with his bad ones...everybody has a selective memory though..some people think App only lost 1 game in the last 3 years for example
9/12/2007 2:36:16 PM
Look I don't why you are such a homer....just about everyone in this thread can admit that Calvin Johnson is the sickest receiver to come out in a while. Torry wasn't even close.Oh and Reggie Ball is not half the QB that Jamie Barnette was. Barnette had a solid senior year after Torry left throwing to Chris Coleman and Ryan Hamrick.

lets see what kind of career calvin has in the nfl first before we make any comparisons to torry, who has dominated college AND nfl...
9/12/2007 3:17:40 PM
^yeah but if we're only talking college WRs, they've both already put their bodies of work out thereif we're talking overall receivers, i agree, but we're just talking college

inJust wanted to say that I'm not a bit surprised by this. I saw it coming when I heard him ask this kid how much "dro" cost up north and was shocked that it was more expensive in NC.And that I played high school golf with this stoner that lit up a fatty with him during TA's freshman year in the back room at a party. Kid was down there partying with his sister and TA was at the party apparently. I didnt believe it until I met TA. haha. What a fuckhead. [Edited on September 12, 2007 at 6:45 PM. Reason : ]

I think he had 100+ of those yards and a TD in the first QUARTERim pretty positive he did anyways.I remember that route he ran for the 2nd touchdown, i was in the stands and I still got juked.
9/12/2007 7:24:21 PM
in 05 though we picked him off in the endzone...i figure such a dominant player would be able to beat Garland Heath with a juke

jesus christ. two things - johnson was sick, but torry was AT LEAST just as sick. both were great, but there's no way to argue really that one was better than the other. the clowns claiming that reggie ball held johnson back must not realize that torry had jamie barnette throwing to him his entire career. not that jamie was that bad, but he was definitely no better than reggie ball. second, to claim peter fucking warrick was better than torry holt in 1998 is absolute stupidity. that might be the stupidest thing anyone has ever stated on t-dub. peter warrick? the complete nfl flame-out?? he only had one good college season, then didn't do shit in the pros. whereas Torry had 2 phenomenal college seasons and has had a tremendous pro career. i was at that game in '98 - torry had by far a better game than warrick. stupid kids. SpreadCheeks, you make me fucking ashamed to be an nc state alum. your'e a stupid bitch.fuck it, one more thing - if calvin johnson was sooooo dominant, why do his stats pale in comparison to torry's?? do you think that teams didn't game plan for torry holt? do you think that, after scoring a record 5 td's against them the year before, that #2 fsu didn't scheme to stop him? i mean, he was the best player in the acc in '98, as a reciever for a mediocre team, yet you claim he wasn't that dominant. get the fuck out of here. and yeah, calvin really showed up in his games against UGa. he was fantastic in all those losses!! ^^^Um if you are going to play that card you have to be fair. Torry lost 4 straight years to UNC. It damn sure wasn't CJ's fault they couldn't beat UGA, if anyone it is on Chan Gailey for being a gutless douche of a coach.
