It's done in all sports let it be video taping or just people just mentally watching. I know they used to do it in baseball and in basketball. It's stupid to cheat that way but what can you do?I think they should use an encrpyted method of sending out calls though. Something like during the first quarter the coach or whoever gives the QB or whoever is reading the play, 3 play calls but the QB knows that only the second call is the one to use during the first half of the game. The second half of the game they switch it to the first play called out of the three. The only problem is there might not be enough time to send out 3 calls if they are in hurry up.It would be harder to decipher I think. Shit if they really wanted to cheat they could intercept the signal from the transmitter that is being sent to the QB's helmet headset.[Edited on September 12, 2007 at 11:25 AM. Reason : ]

its the technology part that is cheating... if you see it with you naked eye and can figure it out on the run, more power to you, they should have done a better job disguising it... but being able to record it, and go back and run the tape alongside the game tape... no.whats next? Belicheat planting a bug in the opposing coaches headset??

1) This scandal should be known as The Patriot Act2) Adam Gold was saying this morning that there are now rumors surfacing that the Patriots also planted a microphone into one of their defensive line players helmets so they could co-ordinate the QB's audibles with plays.
9/12/2007 11:30:15 AM
^ you sure it was the Patriots? The Dolphins did that last year in a game supposedly... maybe the Patriots did too
9/12/2007 11:46:44 AM
^i thought it was the patriots who did it to the dolphins last year?
9/12/2007 11:51:03 AM
hmmm, I know that Zach Thomas is the one that brought it up... I cant remember but I assume he meant the Dolphins, not sure how he would have known otherwise unless someone was dumb enough to tell him, but maybe
9/12/2007 11:52:43 AM
9/12/2007 11:53:13 AM
The microphone thing is just a stupid rumor from profootballtalk.com. That site just throws shit up on the wall to see what sticks.
9/12/2007 11:55:00 AM
^ the Zach Thomas thing isnt... I remember seeing the clip of him seeing it on sportscenter
9/12/2007 11:56:27 AM
As part of his punishment, the Commish forces the Pats to alter their logo

9/13/2007 1:50:28 PM

9/13/2007 8:34:52 PM

$500,000 fine for Belichick, $250,000 fine for the organization, and they lose their first round pick if they make the playoffs[Edited on September 13, 2007 at 8:38 PM. Reason : beat me to it]

9/13/2007 8:48:38 PM

9/13/2007 8:50:40 PM
...that's fucking nasty[Edited on September 13, 2007 at 8:54 PM. Reason : but i award a 10/10 to that joke]
9/13/2007 8:54:49 PM
I'm glad he didn't over-react, I think this is fair
9/13/2007 9:02:37 PM
he shoulda over-reacted...no one's gonna take that seriously. its a mild deterrent at best, and its no harm done to the patriots. they hardly keep any draft picks anyway, and they have 2 first round picks just in case.
9/13/2007 9:42:31 PM
9/13/2007 10:02:20 PM
^ so coaches can plant bugs in the opposing QBs helmet?lasers to shoot down deep passes??technology rules!
9/13/2007 10:08:28 PM
not going to take this seriously?what would have been a justified punishment?i understand the guy makes millions of dollars a year but can you imagine losing $500,000 in a day?
9/13/2007 10:11:46 PM
so, who gets the patriots draft pick(s) ?give it/them to the Jets so we can hear their fans do their thing
9/13/2007 10:43:12 PM
i dont think it works that waythey will just have 1 fewer pick in the 1rst roundlike whne hte timberwolves lost their pick(s)
9/13/2007 10:56:28 PM
"we misinterpreted the rule"haha. yeah. right.
9/13/2007 11:00:48 PM
9/14/2007 12:49:02 AM
Gee, Bill. Could you make it any less obvious?
9/14/2007 12:54:40 AM
what a lame-o penalty500k is nothing to this guymake 'em 0-1 and we're talking
9/14/2007 1:00:09 AM
ahahahahaha in other "unreported" news Bill just got $750,000 "raise" for this season.... yeah right, like he's gonna be hurting from this fine.
9/14/2007 1:18:06 AM
9/14/2007 1:41:33 AM
game tape is differenthomeboy was where he wasn't supposed to be, filming what he wasn't supposed to be filming
9/14/2007 1:43:16 AM
So if he was in the team press box with a pair of binoculars and a notepad is that illegal?
9/14/2007 1:46:26 AM
nope
9/14/2007 1:49:24 AM
God, some of you people are ridiculous. Do you really hate the Patriots that much? I'm not a Patriots fan. I'm a football fan and I am not blinded by my loyalties enough to see that the Patriots have been maintaining a level of excellence that should be impossible with free agency. They havn't been winning the past 6 seasons because they cheat. They've been winning because they make great draft picks, smart trades and personnel decisions, have the most clutch QB in the league and the best coach of our generation.Stealing signals is not cheating. It's an accepted part of the game. The only rule the Patriots broke was having a video camera on their sidelines during the game. It was a stupid thing to do, it got confiscated before the end of the 1st half, and it had no effect on the game. There is no signal telling your special teams to let a guy return a kick 108 yards. They broke the rules, they got caught, and now they've been punished accordingly. That should be the end of it.
9/14/2007 9:23:42 AM
bellacheat is a asshole
9/14/2007 9:25:37 AM
If it doesn't give them an advantage...If it doesn't affect the outcome of the game...If it isn't any more effective than having someone "in the team press box with a pair of binoculars and a notepad"...If it's basically the same as watching game tape...The why did they have the cameraman down there after they were explicitly told not to?
9/14/2007 9:39:09 AM
9/14/2007 9:44:38 AM
I wonder if anything will come of these reports of jamming headsets, etc.
9/14/2007 9:49:34 AM
^ I tend to agree with a harsh punishment. Hell an F1 team was just fined 100 million for spying.
9/14/2007 9:49:47 AM
^ agreed. The fine is nothing. The draft pick loss is somewhat significant, but they should have suspended belichick for a few games as well.
9/14/2007 9:54:04 AM
I guess the words "league maximum fines" mean nothing to you guys
9/14/2007 9:58:20 AM
pretty much, just like it means nothing to Bill
9/14/2007 10:01:13 AM
Actually, the draft picks mean nothing. The Patriot's management is so damn good that they've already secured a 1st round draft pick from the 49ers and 3rd round pick from the Raiders. That is why the Patriots are so fucking dominant. The video was confiscated during the first quarter, after which the Patriots only led 7-0. They went on to completely dominate the rest of the game. Super Bowl XXXVIII was nearly 4 years ago, get over it already.
9/14/2007 10:02:09 AM
9/14/2007 10:04:57 AM
yeah, get over it. who cares if they cheated and won by just 3, they had to execute even with knowledge of the D's plays
