renter's insurance is the best 13/month that i have ever spent.

I'm sure we'll both get renter's insurance after this, but my point is that even if either of us had it to begin with, neither of us would have had to use our renter's insurance to pay for shit that is due to the negligence of the complex. In the case of us having it, here's what would have happened:Insurance Co. would have paid for shit to be replaced. Insurance Co. would have found out that damage they had to pay us for was caused by negligence on the part of the complex.Insurance Co. would sue apartment complex for damages.Insurance Co. would be paid by apartment complex's Insurance Co. for said damages.Apartment complex's premiums would go up, or apartment complex would get dropped from policy, either of which is a bad situation for them. All I'm saying is that if it goes to court, which it won't, because no apartment complex is going deem that losing $1600 in rent is worth paying an extra $10k a year in insurance costs, is that we'd be cutting out the middle man.I can't stress enough that I have been through shit like this before. If you push, you will win, contrary to all the stuff you've been fed about insurance policies. If I had a product I wanted to sell to people, I'd tell them that my way was the only way to do things, too.[Edited on July 27, 2007 at 7:53 PM. Reason : .]

if you have been through stuff like this before and have so much knowledge why did you come ask what recourse do you have....?

see the whole point that you are missing here is that this type of shit happens all the time. Your roommates shit is not the responsibility of the apartment complex to replace. IF THAT WERE THE CASE THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR RENTERS INSURANCE. The apartment complex already has a lawyer working for them. You are going to take on the cost of having to hire and attorney who has to prove against the testimony (if it even makes it to trial) that they fucked up while fixing the dishwasher vs it just being a faulty part or what not. Just b/c your are some savy college graduate with major in pwning doesnt mean that a judge in raleigh hasn't seen this or an attorney for the apartment complex hasn't had a threat of a lawsuit before. You really just need to take this whole situation as a learning experience as to choose better companies/apartment complexes you rent from as well as getting renters insurance in the future. Like I said before there is a reason why renter's insurance exists. Rental companies/landlords/apartment complexes know how the law works and if not everytime something like this went wrong they would lose big money. That is what insurance is for.Jim Carrey said it best

do you have any sworn statements or recordings of what anyone told you?
7/28/2007 7:48:33 AM
isn't there some kind of housing union that you can contact about this, same as like the bbb is where you would report bad business practices?
7/28/2007 9:16:21 AM
But the apartment complex has a signed lease by you that says they are not responsible for any of your belongings.

^^^ The Family that lives in the apartment above is willing to back me up on everything, as they were told the same thing.
